There's another issue that I haven't personally tested but theorize. If, say, 2 players are playing and it's an open game - they start the SK fight and 2 more players randomly join in. Boss goes in x4 mode instead of x2 but the 2 new players can't join in the fight. That's because you can't join in while a boss fight is in progress. At least that's what I remember from playing a few weeks ago.
That spells doom for the 2 players inside the boss room, especially on higher difficulties. Especially bad for hardcore characters.
How to fix?
Option 1: Boost boss health only for the amount of people in boss' room.
Option 2: Allow players to port in, but not port out of a boss fight. This still leaves the problem that the new players might decide to wait a bit before porting in.

Yea kinda annoying that you can't port in. What is the point of making the boss scale to everyone if not everyone can fight him?
Just toggle monster HP, get in alone in a 2player game, compare to HP with 2 players or 1player.
When someone cancels the boss fight. You'll get another popup asking if you want to cancel the fight too.
I've only tested what happens if someone leaves during the fight - his health does adjust for less players dynamically.
