I should not by any strech of the imagination have problems with my FPS in Diablo, and certainly not on 1680x1050.
However, my fps varies from locked 60 and locked 30...
Certain areas of the game is locked at 30, while others at 60 (with vsyc. 150+ ish without, but I cant stand that, so.)
Look at these screenshots. FPS is in the upper left corner, measured through Diablo 3 itself.
All I did here was move a few yards.
Any idea what causes is? I'll be honest and say that I find it barely playable.
Should also mention that no graphical setnings helps.
Are you on the newest gpu drivers from nvidia? Also this game is more more CPU intensive than gpu. Are you sure your oc is 100% stable? Bump it down to stock and try to play. Yes I know it is watercooled, but that does not guarantee a stable oc. Trust me I build them for a living. For now double check nvidia driver and go to stock CPU settings and see if that helps. If not let me know and we can go from there. Sorry for crappy typing, but it's posted from my phone.

I had the same problem, eventually i reverted back to the 296.10 driver and put ambient occlusion on performance instead of quality, now everything is smooth as butter, i had big frame rate dips and bad stuttering before i did what i recommended.
I forgot about the nvidia drivers. Did you download their new beta one? Cuz thats what I did and every game i had TERRIBLE fps, uninstalled it all, went back to 296.10 like Nuvian said, everything went back to normal.
I dont really know where to post this, so I'll just give it a go.
First off, my rig;
Asus p8z68 Deluxe Gen3
I5 2500K @ 4.8ghz
16GB Corsair Vengeance RAM
GTX560ti 448 @ 950mhz-ish
All on water.

The divers are the latest, yeah, beta ones, however.
Been overclocking the last ten years or so, I'd say it's stable, and have been for months.
EDIT
Sorry if I'm coming off as an arrogant ass by the way. I'm dead tired, but want to keep playing. : P
Moved to the appropriate section
I'll report back asap.
Thanks a bunch.
Biggest problem is that I get _REALLY nauseous from fps drops. : /
The FPS doesn't drop to "locked" 30 in the example spot at least.
I'll see how it works out after some playtime!
Thanks a great bunch at least. c:
EDIT;
Yes, I knew I had the beta driver.
Downgraded now.
