Let's go over this: Mb is what the companies advertise and what the majority have posted. MB is the speed you download with. You can't possible have 4-6Mb speeds. That is horrendous and I'm sure some are mistaking this. Not the unlucky bro from SA (sadly), but some of you for sure.
Posting this just so we can now have a bit better estimates.
4-6Mb speeds are not horrendous. its quite ordinary at least in Sweden
4mb/s can theatrically be achieved whit ~36mbit/s
6mb/s can theatrically be achieved whit ~48mbit/s
thats the theoretical speed... how do you count it?
(in reality when you count speed 1mb = 1024kb, so you know, but keep in mind this is theoretical max speeds that are not 100% accurate 1mbit/s=1024kbit/s=128kb/s)
1000bit (1mbit)= 125kb (im going to calculate whit 1mb=1000kb, its fairly accurate anyway, in reality its 1mb=1024kb)
your theoretical max speed is always ~X/8
tbh, i have 1gbit/s atm and i really think its to much, its just no use of 125mb/s, there is almost no disks out there that even can write in that speed. its not worth it! i am going down in speed to 100mbit in a near future
personally, i think 100mbit is good enough and allot more for any ordinary user. the speed it insane anyway.
1000mbit (1gbit) is only interesting if there is many people (10+) using the internet at the same time and they would all still receive ~12.5mb/s each <.
How is high speed internet so cheap over in Europe and Asia? It's ridiculous here in the U.S. $15/month will get you 768k/384k
Countries are smaller and when Internet first began competition was insane everywhere. Companies had to really step up their game to not drown in the sea of companies that provided services. It didn't start with telephones, so phone companies didn't have a head start. Actually phone companies offer absolute sh*t Internet. It was just basic LAN at first and then the cables were everywhere.
Just in the capital right now there are 4-5 companies that bring 100Mb connections for about €15-20.
I said 4-6Mb connection. Not 4-6MB download speed, which is perfectly fine. 4-6Mb connection is 0.5MB download speed. That is bad. Especially when you add download limits.
I was wondering what is your internet speed and how much it cost, cause I saw in another topic one from US complaining about a limit on download per month. Rly?!
I am from Slovenia EU - 100Mbps/10Mbps for 25€/month
You are so lucky, the best internet I can get here is from AT&T 10mbps down/700 kilobytes a second up that costs about $40 to 50 a month regular price without discount. Limits aren't implemented yet but when they are that will be 250 Gigabytes per month -_-. 20mbps is the max with AT&T but I think the price is something like $60 a month and still has same limits it is awful.
If we had 100mbps connection here it would cost $150 a month if not more.
