My situation is that I have a Barb that is perfectly capable of handling T6 and can do GR30 as of right now. But my other 3 friends are having a hard time finding set pieces or even any good legendaries, especially as of late. It feels like the drop rate has slowly gone down over time. Regardless, all that we do is regular rifts because that is what they feel most comfortable doing, but I can TELL that they are getting tired of the game because they are not progressing very much anymore. Should Greater Rifts be a higher priority so that they can level up LGems? I don't know if you get more legendaries/sets from Greater Rifts now or not. Overall, I guess I'm really frustrated that all the game has to offer is bounties, rifts, G.rifts and they seem to be losing interest...
If anyone has any tips of what to do to mix things up or what you find to be most entertaining, please let me know. Thanks.
i switch it up - i do bounties, t6 regular rifts to help new players gear up, uber runs to stock up on key parts to make ancient hellfires, grifts (my goal is to get lvl 40 gems for my alts and lvl 50 gems for my main toons), and powerleveling which is surprisingly fun. i play 4 out of 6 classes so i rotate between them to prevent the game from getting boring - and unlike a lot of people that i've heard complaining - i find the game to still be highly entertaining. oh dont forget to troll gen chat - that is always a fun past time in between runs.

NA servers - add me if ya want - ysoserious#1178. - i run a clan if anyone wants an invite. no requirements to join - as long as your nice and friendly your more than welcome
I think a lot of players are doing other things in anticipation of season 2. Non seasonal leaderboards will be wiped and some game-changing season only legendaries (2 of the new gems) are coming next season AND seasonal leaderboards are 'forever' on a per-season basis, so basically non seasonal play, over time, will be nearly useless.
In the meantime, I'm personally playing almost 100% on PTR testing the new changes and just having fun crafting and trying new things without repercussions.
going for achievements myself though i know its not for everyone. sprinter and speed racer are definitely fun to try for. missed it by 1.5min after missing it by about 5min a few times..then we were on pace when diablo in a4 refused to unfreeze in the beginning to let us start dmging him.
If you haven't already, gear up all 6 classes. Getting all your alts setup keeps you busy for a while and once you have them you have a lot more variety to work with. Yesterday I did T6 rifts for hours and hours but to keep it interesting I rotated through the classes as I went along and that helps keep me engaged.
I have all classes to 70 and are at least T2 ready. My problem is that when me and my friends group up (almost) every Wednesday night, the question "What do you guys wanna do?" always comes up and their response is usually a very unenthusiastic, "Um... I don't care." Really pains me because they haven't had the experience of completing a set yet or getting a decent Hellfire Amulet. If bad goes to worse, I'm gonna have to join a different clan because I still REALLY enjoy my time in Sanctuary. It just sucks because these are my childhood friends and I want to play with them, ya know?

blizz had 2 previous games + their respective expansions to know what to do, what the players liked, and what they didnt.... including the "i beat the game, what now?" part.
they decided to change the game altogether and came up with something mediocre at best.
in public games, seasonal and non seasonal combined, there are usually no more than 1000 people playing .. thats all the modes.
unless they manage to come up with something very radical, the game server will be shut down in less than 5 years.. heck... more people play d2 than d3

Regarding your question about Legendary Drops, GR yield more Legendaries per hour, but lesser XP.
If you are just farming legendaries/sets, the best thing to do is :
Start in Adventure mode, fail a Trial to obtain a lvl 1 key.
Open up the lvl 1 GR and kill mobs until you reach ~90-95 %.
Leave out 3 or 4 mob groups at the start so you can kill them later.
You should remember the time that is left so you dont waste the key (anything under 4:30 just gives 1 keystone lvl upgrade).
Teleport back and go complete the bounties as far as possible.
Come back when the timer hits 4:30 and kill the left out mobs and the Rift Guardian.
This way you can reuse a single keystone more than 20-25 times (depending on how far you can reach) and gain a good amount of legendaries.
in public games, seasonal and non seasonal combined, there are usually no more than 1000 people playing .. thats all the modes.
That is a fraction of the actual number of games being played.

Diablo 2 had way less of an endgame. It had PvP, sort-of. But aside from that, D2 didn't have half the endgame features that d3 does.

I know what you mean - out of all my IRL friends I'm the only one who sticks to D3 for any length of time. Some of them come back when a new patch hits (less and less of them) for a short while, but I'm always the one left when they've all moved on to other games. I guess you just have to come to accept it - they may not be into D3 as much as you are.
I've been tempted to join another clan too (rather than just my made-up friends group one), one that plays a little more regularly. And that may be the way to go if you're keen on getting into more D3. And then you can try to just game with your mates in a different game that you can all enjoy.
BUT, i will say, that sometimes to mix things up for newer players is to try a new character - sometimes just the style of character doesn't suite someone and they may get a better feel from using a different character.
Or, if you and your friends are open to something silly, you could try Hardcore Roulette with your friends. XD Can sometimes get a laugh trying to get each other killed.

As suggested in these two posts. Quit pushing for gearing your chars. That gets boring quickly.
Find new games within the game that you can challenge yourself with. The possibilities are endless. Make the game about challenges, thinking how to overcome them. Of course grinding gets boring sooner rather than later.
I was hoping seasons will fix D3 and give it more incentive to play, but sadly it is not the case. D3 is a joke and beyond fixing. At the moment I'm playng CS:GO, Dota 2 and new 1.3 PoE patch which blows D3 out of the water any day. D3 is a ghost town anyway, you can't even have fun in chat, barely anyone playing it.

I might be swearing in church, but I've started playing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive instead
Nope. I took a small (2 week) break and played Lichdom:Battlemage. It was a nice change of pace, but now I'm getting back into rifts again. I still have about 1200 rift keys I need to burn.

Taking a rest from D3 until ancient items come along , no incentive right now to play .
