I am fairly new to Diablo and would appreciate some advice as I am at a crossroads with my build and a bit confused. I have a stash full of gear but have settled for the build below which gives me a respectable sheet DPS and a lot of potential for higher damage ( 20+ million crit )
Helm : Tal Rasha Chest : Tal Rasha Ammulet : Tal Rasha Shoulder : Aughilds Braces : Aughilds Gloves : Firebird
Belt : Harrington Waistguard
Pants : Firebirds
Boots : Ice Climbers
Weapon : Thunderfury with +130% CHD
Off-hand : Mirrorball
Rings : Ring of Royal Grandeur, Puzzle ring
The main item I am questioning is the gloves. I have a choice between gauntlets which give me more balanced CHC and CHD ( 55% and 407% ) respectively. I also have firebird talons which don’t give me CHD but do give me a 500int bonus from the 3 set bonus. On sheet DPS alone, option 2 looks better but during play, I notice the highest observable crit damage is lower than when using option 1. How significant is that 47% CHD difference ? If Diablo had a training room with a punch bag for us to measure our dps against the clock, that would be great but as they don’t and the numbers I am seeing from poorly “controlled” fights vary too much, its impossible to compare one against the other accurately. My gut feeling is option 1 is marginally better. I had tried to re-roll the 10% CHC on the Firebird talons to 50% CHD but it’s costing a fortune ( 700k a roll and increasing after having spent 23mil already. Now broke. ) Option 1 Wearing Gladiator Gauntlets ( +9% CC, + 47% CHD )
Crit Chance : 55% Crit Damage : 407%
Int : 8750
Attack Speed : 1.92
Sheet DPS : 978,000
Option 2
Wearing Firebirds Talon ( +10% CC, no CHD, +500 Int bonus for wearing 2 pieces + ring of royal grandeur )
Crit Chance : 56%
Crit Damage : 360%
Int : 9250
Attack Speed : 1.92
DPS : 1,028,000 ( self calculated to include firebird bonus as sheet dps excludes it )
Use the site in my signature, it'll show you at the bottom how much you gain per 1% CHD and per 100 int ON your character.
here's how my Dh breaksdown at the moment.
Elemental DPS: 1,161,334.54 (Physical)
1.00% +Physical Skills Damage gives you 8,797.99 dps
Thanks for the link ! that site is very good. It made me realise i enchanted the wrong affix on my ring. I tried to improve a ring with 5% CHC, 40% CHD by enchanting CHD to 47%. I should have instead enchanted CHC to 10% ! giving much more dps Oh well, learnt something new today
Lets hope the enchantment reset function gets released

I wish ring can roll up to 10%. Max CHC on ring and bracer are 6%. Max CHC on gloves, amulet and off-hand are 10%. 1% CHC vs 7% CHD is debatable depending on your CHC:CHD ratio which is optimally 1:10 i.e. 40% CHC : 400% CHD will be the most ideal but not fixed in stone. But since CHC is easier to obtain vs CHD on a Wiz, I would say you made the right choice for changing your CHD.
Best is to play it out on your character and see which one allows you to do better. If you want to test our your dps (on single target), a lot of people uses Ghom as the test subject for their dps output. Hope this helps.
I used to try to stack CHC as high as I could at the expense of everything else, but I now just try to keep it at 50-55 since I know I will probably never have CHD at 500+. You want that 1:10 CHC:CHD golden ratio.
CHD: weapon 130, amulet 100, ring 50, ring 50, glove 50, base 50 = 420 critical hit damage
CHC: amulet 10, bracer 6, helm 6, ring 6, ring 6, glove 10, source 10, base 5 = 57 critical hit chance
57:420 = 1:7.3 ratio
If you include paragon:
62:470 = 1:7.58 raio (which is better but still not close).
CHC appears exclusively on a lot more items than CHD does, and when they appear together on the same item slot the 1:10 ratio is always skewed in CHC's favor. So realistically choosing CHC over CHD on any slot where you can only have one over the other I will probably pick CHD.
For instance SOJ is a common conundrum for this problem. Elemental damage, elite damage, INT, and X. I pick CHD. If you get really lucky you can get elemental damage, elite damage, CHC, and CHD, but INT also gives you resistance so I am not sure I like that option as much, but 50 CHD is still a lot.
If you do this you have 51 CHC to 420 CHD which is a ratio of 1:8.23
With paragon: 56:470 = 1:8.39
Some build play off CHC though and proc things the more CHC you have, so that would be a situation where you might ignore the ratio and go CHC instead.
