I just registered to spread the good news and hopefully make this easier for everyone.
Like most I've been farming Act 1 like crazy to get the rorg. Unforunately after over 600 caches I still have nothing. Today I read somewhere that there the game is now set to drop a Leg every 2 hrs if you don't get them elsewhere... so I left my game open in windowed mode and waited 2hrs in New Tristram. Just after 2hrs I open my cache and LOW AND BEHOLD: A ROYAL RING OF GRANDEUR!
This can obv be chance, but I've been getting leg's about 1 in 15 caches. Ofc it could have dropped other leg's but I just got lucky with the ring. But I'm thinking it might be worthwhile to hang onto caches and during down time leave the game open and return to open the caches and hope to get 1 leg every 2 hrs of not playing.
"i read somewhere" yeah right... How about linking the source?
Today I read somewhere that if you leave the game open for two hours and swing a black cat over your head 3 times clockwise, you will get a rorg. Trust me on this, i read it somewhere. So it must be true.
A buddy of mine went through the entire vanilla d3 only playing his DH and never finding a manticore. RoS comes out and he finds 3 within 2 hours. He thought it was some kind of bug, i always say random is random (to the extent random can be programmed into a machine as PHDeath stated).
Now, I have noticed that if I don't play the game for a while, when i join a game I will get 1 or 2 legs right off the back of entering the map. Sometimes from the first few mobs or items destroyed then nothing for a while. Whether or not this is part of their system I don't know, just something i noticed.
AFK isn't the same thing as "fighting monsters". There's some mystery to how the timer works, as it should be. But sitting on your ass is certainly an approach they planned for.
How do people log into diablo 3 and play so little it takes them 2 hours to find a legendary regularly.
I'm not saying I've never had a 2 hour wait for a legendary; it's probably happened once. Maybe twice. But if I'm not getting about 1 legendary every 20-30 minutes I'm feeling like the luck is low.
Are you guys killing the monsters that spawn on the maps; I've heard they drop loot
No man,do what I did. I was just about to finish and decided I'd do one last set of bounties, and BOOM. I got the ring. So, the answer is that you have to do one more bounty run than what you set out to do.
There is no way in hell the 2 hour increase helper thing would work on bags. The loot you get in the bag is rolled WHEN you get the bag. Not when you open it
I posted this and didn't say it was proven, just that I have done over 500 bounties for Act 1 and have had exactly ZERO rorg's. I did get it this way. I wasn't afk, since it was windowed and I kept thing open beside it and clicked back in the game if it said I'd gone afk.
I'm not saying this works, I'm just saying it worked for me.
Also, the post states that the increased drop chance (NOT a guarantee) only kicks in after 4-6h of killing monsters without a drop.

I got the ring the exact same way as the op. I had 5 cashe's from a few normal runs, sat in town afk for about 45 min while I waited for the 2h mark and bam, ring.
Worked for my boots as well. Blizzard says one thing, but means something totally different. See terms of service, they even provision for changes to changes on the fly there. Besides, not like Blizzard has ever, ever had something the blue said not be the truth right?

It did not WORK FOR you, it HAPPENED TO you, once.
The loot system ISN'T random or RNG. It gets old people using that term. D3's loot system has rules and parameters. It isn't random. It is badly implement and poorly designed, but that isn't the same thing as RNG. That is shitty game design.
Case in point, my Crusader needs 1 more piece of Akkhan for 6-set bonus, twice this weekend Green Helms dropped running tons of T3/4 Rifts solo and in party. I think "Great", cause shitty Blackthorns doesn't have a helm." But NOOOOOOO, both damn times the helms were DH Marauders Helms. That isn't RNG - that is shitty game design. Something in the code allowed and made those DH helms drop for more Crusader.
When people come to the forums complaining about loot -- 90% of the time it is because of things like what happened to me this weekend. That is what people want fixed. Randomness is fine - BUT it needs to work within a system that makes sense, not one that turns gamers off,

Then we'll have a "Horadric Cache Leg exploit".

I opened 8 chests in a row and got 2 rings, plus another 2-3 rings in the preceding and following days. It's all random.

There is a difference between the two.
