It's not the biggest sample size, but it is a good example of the rewards you get from Horadric Caches. About a 15% chance at a legendary item per cache. It's not great for gold or Blood Shards, but the amount of rare and legendary items is pretty damn good.
Note: Torment 1 was my main difficulty for doing these bounties.
Thanks for taking the time to do the math, so to speak. I used to keep a spreadsheet of gear drops and times-run for Jagged Alliance Online, back when I used to play, and didn't know about D3. So, I know something of what you went through.
On those legendaries, are you taking into account Plans? What about Set items and plans?
I'm asking because I opened 20 caches earlier today and got 1 set plan and 2 legendaries. If the plan is taken into account, I guess I was spot on your statistic (15%)? If it wasn't, I was slightly below it (10%).
I've opened probably 25-30 caches so far and not gotten a single legendary. Though i'm running only on master difficulty so far, I dont know how much an effect that has on the drop rate, or lack of. Also of note is I've done roughly the same amount of rifts, maybe a couple more, and again, not a single legendary drop from the rift guardian's yet. Also in master difficulty.
Read my post regarding cubes and Nephalem rifts You will agree with me. Cahce is the best way to farm for Items. And you don't need to farm Torment 1 or anything i farmed 30 on normal in an hour and got 4 legendarys + upgrade and i got 2 new level 70 items
