Any idea why blizzard neglected to do a proper ending cinematic? After the epic intro, and cinematics from vanilla, i was hoping for something equally great at the end of reaper, but... i'm quite disappointed.
yeah that was a sore point! wanted one! and when 'congratulations' came up I was a bit bummed out..
There were a few things with the story that I didn't seem to understand:
1) Why did Maltheal destroy the dark soul stone to release them from their prison but incorporate them into his being- That does not seem smart or the way to end the eternal conflict.. so wtf?
2) How did Tyreals sword pass through Tyreal in the opening cinematic? his actions were FAR from righteous (if the reason it passed through him was because the Sword of justice thought his actions were just) ...Genocide of a race (nephalem) is for the greater good?Or did it just pass through him because he was death itself and only we could kill him because we inherited some death powers before we killed him? 3)I was expecting to see something about the Angris council after the fight.. Imperious and/or Tyreal
4)Looks like the next expansion will involve Inarius and Lilith (as we found all the Maltheal lore books in Act4 and all the inarius and lilith books in Act 5)
5) Maltheals essence is not destroyed and I am guessing 1 of two things might happen in future. Either Maltheal will be reborn out of the Crystal Arch. OR Deckard Cain will be reborn out of the crystal arch as the new Arch Angel of Wisdom .. BOOM I felt their were loose ends that were not tied up and I wasdisappointedwith Maltheal for not being smarter (since he is wisdom).. at least he didn't tell us his plans as much like Azmodan and Diablo did constantly...
1. He absorbed the soulstone because we were beating his shit in and he needed the extra power. His death releases diablo who is the prime evil now having absorbed all the other evils into himself. Diablo will come back, the other lords will not.
2. Tyrea l. Could not harm his brother because he is only a mortal now. We couldn't hurt him until we combined the powers of the dead with our own. That is why we could hurt maltheal.
3 and 4 are not questions.
5. It doesn't seem likely that the angel of death will comeback. Tyrea l says that diablo is once again released after the fight so it would be reasonable to assume that diablo will return as a boss in the next expansion and probably will have some of death's powers in addition to this own because of mal absorbing the soul stone during the fight.

That's all my quests though.
1- That is a dumb move then.. now he is gambling on winning. as if he loses he now also lets diablo free.. how does that help the eternal conflict.
2 - Ok thought that might be the case
3-4 - yeah was just listing stuff at about the story line at that point
5 - Maltheal is the aspect of Wisdom that was born out of the crystal Arch not the aspect of death ( no such thing in the lore) he just proclaimed himself death ...Tyreal is still the Aspect of Justice not Wisdom.
I still think Lilith will be the next expansion boss and that we will see all the lords of hell again at one point... i think there could be more than 1 more expansion...
the endings are identical, aside from a different drawing to show the character, and the voice over mentioning the different class/sex combo's. I'd much rather have seen a single cinematic. one that rivaled the intro cinematic.
Let's not forget Adria. She was hinting that "he'll always find a way back" or something along those lines.
As for Deckard returning, it's possible he could return but I can't see him returning as an angel.. perhaps he shares the same fate as Leah since he is her uncle.
Tyrael tells you why he couldn't hurt Malthael if you talk to him in Pandemonium after doing the Ram event, and it wasn't the reason the CMs gave. He says how Malthael being in the death-attuned state or whatever it is was the reason he couldn't do anything to him.
Wait a second, there is not a proper cgi cinematic at the end?
It goes to show how blizzard think of their customers. And people said it wasn't a DLC...
If there was a cinematic at the end, it would break the format.
Intro Cinematic -> Act I -> Intro Cinematic -> Act II -> Intro Cinematic -> Act III -> Intro Cinematic Act IV -> Ending Cinematic -> Intro Cinematic -> Act V -> Intro Cinematic Act VI -> Ending Cinematic -> Diablo 4.
I don't presume we'll be fighting Diablo again in Diablo III as a storyline boss. We'll probably kill another boss who could give us insight into what Diablo has up his sleeve for his "Original Beefcake Form" reappearance come Diablo 4.
Diablo is a flagship franchise, we attempted to kill him in "Diablo I" but he just corrupted the hero, We killed him in "Diablo II" Adria brings him back through Leah as his vessel, we realize we can't kill him, so we trap him in the soul stone, Mathael breaks the soul stone, freeing him again. If we kill him again, how could there really be a Diablo 4?
Blizzard is going to make a Diablo 4. Lets just be real about it.
Do you really want to kill Diablo twice in one title? How do you even begin to write that without it seeming 1,000x worse than the story already is?
what about the fact that malthael says we will be the last of our kind for a moment and tyrael also says the BSS is killing ppl fast? at the end of the game most ppl should be dead, loved the new act and the story was nice, but the end... so many questions + lack of cinematic make it a bit lackluster...

Well, if you want the cinematic so badly? What would it contain, what would happen in it? Please fill us in with your great ideas.
The story is what Blizzard has to come up with not us. No matter what they do in the cinematic they need to do it in CGI. If fitting characters seems to be impossible then do it in different approaches. What approaches? Again, it's their job to figure it out. Since they couldn't, people would be disappointed. Why? Many people have waited for years to see it.Unlike WOW, it's been established in every Diablo game to have at least 2 CGI cinematic. Other games like Warcraft III and Starcraft II also have at least the same or greater number even with their expansion(s).The story of Diablo is fascinating so that fans always want to see Blizzard bringing it to life. The use of sketching storybook doesn't have that capability. It's okay for it to pop up along the way but overusing it for an outro indicates not much effort have been put into it not to mention breaking the consistency/traditional cinematic approach of Diablo. Of course, not having CGI outro doesn't actually break the game. However, these days, it always seems Blizzard can't deliver a game with the sense of completion (not perfection!). Especially, when we know that they can't deliver what they have been known for, that's even more sad.

Agreed, I was sad I didn't see one, BUT, and you decide if this is giving Blizzard too much leeway, I understand if their reasoning is that it costs so much time and resources that they decided to instead work on the systems for release. Maybe that's too easy of an out, but I don't know what the time frame was on RoS. For vanilla they had literally years to work on one. But for RoS as revealed by the behind the scenes DVD, they changed up the story they originally had in place. Perhaps this meant they had a far smaller window of time before release, and just couldn't feasibly get a proper cinematic done.
I mean, those things DO take forever, so I understand.
