A Motherfu*king game changer bitches!!! Finally Diablo franchise is back to the level that we all expected it to be. Finally the true follow up to diablo 2 is upon us.
So much sounded awesome pre launch - and then it all got scrapped / watered down and generally screwed up before release.
That is not something that can happen to Blizzard again, especially not with D3. There's a lot at stake here, and it's pretty obvious by now that they are willing to go all out with this expansion and revive a pretty bland game. I'm not expecting them to cut much of the big datamined stuff for the release.

Like other's said I am cautiously excited. There is no guarantee that I will get this game because of Blizzard's reputation on Diablo 3. I would be interested in seeing how adventure mode works.
I really want to be excited - this looks amazing!
But, I remember all to well the years leading up to D3.
I LIVED on this website eating up all the info everyday.

So.. very, very cautiously, I'm getting excited for the possibility that RoS will make this game the game I wanted it to be back then.
I would hope that Blizzard would not make this mistake again after all the backlash. I think the D3 vanilla era dev team was just afraid to make mistakes and wanted this perfect little neat package with no flaws. Then we ended up with a decent game missing a lot of key elements, and not a masterpiece. I hope this expansion era dev team has learned from these mistakes. To be fair, they also actually have a base game to expand on, vanilla has laid the foundation, now the cracks just need filling in!

While you're completely correct.... trying to get that through to people who have made it their sole purpose in life to spew venom and vitriol over a "fail game" for 15+ months is just not going to happen.
D2 had the same general development cycle: get the foundation right, then add stuff with the expansion. We've simply seen that over a longer period of time with D3 because, unlike back in 2000, we mostly have broadband internet so patching isn't quite as taboo as it was back then.

Meh. The problem is that they charged full price for the "foundation". I didn't sign up for a "foundation", that's the problem. I don't think it's good business ethics to release something that you know is incomplete because you're eyeing a future expansion.
For the amount of hours I have played D3, the $100 CE package i bought has been well worth it.
How many hours of D3 have you played?
Surely your time investment must correlate to your enjoyment in the game. what is a reasonable $/hour of game time you think D3 is worth... then how many hours have you played = if D3 was worth it for you...
This stuff looks awesome! ... and none of it is guaranteed to be in the expansion! It's all unofficial info datamined from a pre-alpha that's been left in God know what state!

Some people spend hours every day at slot machines, it doesn't mean slot machines is the best game ever (though it means that it takes hours and hours to get anything out of slot machines...)
I am not saying it is the best game ever as taste is subjective.
All I am saying is that if you spend enough time on one game then it most likely because you enjoy it. At some point you can subjectively determine if paying the outright dollar cost for a game was 'worth it'... I think Maka would have a hard time saying it wasn't.. even if it didn't deliver all the promises it gave and you call D3 vanilla a 'foundation'

The highlighted part is a bit problematic.
The way I see it, they were focused on more important stuff: getting the 3D, camera and controls to feel right (if you watched the GDC video, you know how much development time that took), getting the new skill and stat system to work well (again, GDC - they tested quite a few systems before settling with the current one), absolutely tons of coding to get the AH/RMAH to work as they wanted, server-side coding (which is new to their ARPG setting), getting the story, cutscenes, coding all to work flawlessly (Blizzard quality).
Don't even start replying, I know it. Maybe those are not the most important for the playerbase. The itemization, item hunt and end-game are more important than that, because those are the core of the Diablo experience.
I agree with that argument! But frankly, from a developer pov there was only so much they could do on those, considering how much the base systems changed (and don't even bring the "nothing should have changed" theory to table, you know what I think of that).

IMO: There's no such thing as 'complete' software. The relevant ethical metrics for off-the-shelf software are: Is the quality acceptable, and does it do what the marketing material say it does. That's about it. Those of us who bought D3 sight unseen (pre-ordered or, in my case, day one purchase on the way home from work) can't claim that Blizzard committed some kind of fraud or acted immorally in any way just because we were unexpectedly let down.
Blizzard does have a good-faith obligation (not a moral one, mind you) to deliver on Loot 2.0. If they'd piled all the fixes into D3X and left D3 owners twisting in the wind, then I'd have been the first person hoisting the black flag (that's an H. L. Mencken reference, not a piracy one )
Is it just me that I see similarities between the quests of the "challenge" mode and my burning hells portals idea and between this:
LootRunBar - You have started a Loot Run!
Kill enemies to fill this bar. When it is full, a portal will open to the Loot Run guardian.
LootRunBar_title - Loot Run
LootRunBarComplete - You have opened a portal to the Loot Run guardian! Enter the portal and defeat it!
and my idea of the Talisman of Portals?
