I don't usually make this kind of threads, seriously, but.. after reading the news about PvP... it is.. beyond frustrating.
And I couldn't care less about PvP, to me, the PvE aspect of the game is more important, but, even so, they are a hell of a company (or at least they were) and they take amateurish decisions like this one...
I think it's time to let go. I don't mean that sarcastically. They had their time, clearly they are not on par with what they used to be. We should stop expecting them to.
Come on you guys. Every company makes bad decisions sooner or later. I'm not letting this deter me form purchasing any of their games. I will stick with the winner.
Oh look. This again. I long for the time there wasn't any communication between devs and community. There was a whole lot less negativity back then and people just coped.
Edit: if it was up to the devs, you wouldn't even know pvp was going to be implemented, less stress that way. There'd just be a patch one day implementing pvp. I paid 50€ for a game in which i spent 200+ hours playing, it's been worth it. If they add pvp, great! If not, I won't lose any sleep over it.
Well I didn't expect any real arguments to show up in this thread. What a surprise!
Also 600 hours and still grinding away with joy. Actually my wife has been looking at my screen for some time now and is starting soon herself.
Let those people polish the game for god sake and stop pushing them in the back... I don't wan't them to release a half way completed game. I'd be happy there would be twice the content even tho i would have to wait another year.
If you played 600h and you still feel fun playing D3 you have to be strange guy.
Cmon, you want to tell me that killing the same monsters in the same location, with the same skills as everybody else, without any character development or in depth mechanics, with this ridiculous itemization system and lack of any challanging feature for 600h is still FUN to you?
I've got 800h and only thing that motivated me to play was real money. After 600h i was like "jesus motherfucking christ help this game because blizzard won't do it" and i almost slept on my keyboard playing this exciting piece of art from Blizzard Entertainment!
I think you are a big filthy Blizzard fanboy Can't blame you, B used to be great but D3 is just a bad game at the moment.
Also, say hi to you wife
Well I don't flip the AH, I don't buy from the RMAH and am just a regular person trying to find small upgrades or spending not much than 5-10 million on the AH occasionally. I'm not even that high on Plvl (40). I just don't have 12 hour sessions of doing the same thing and so I keep my joy when entering the game again.
I also raid in WoW and sometimes can't even wait for the raid to finish so I can go spend 2-3 hours hacking away at random foes.
One theory I have about any game in general is that efficiency, in the long run, will either make you great in a game or much more likely make you absolutely despise it. To be efficient you have to pigeonhole yourself into certain builds, using certain skills/runes, grinding at certain areas, at certain difficulties and so on. You are literally taking away the fun of the game from yourself. And then you go against your fun for 50-100 hours at which point you go "F*ck this game. I'm doing exactly what I'm "supposed" to and it doesn't feel rewarding". Well how can it? When you play with certain expectations _of course_ you'll be disappointed if you're not trying to have fun on the way there. You can't just set your mind on "I'll get to 100P, make my character do 250k+ damage and run the same dense area over and over again because this seems like the most efficient way to play this game", because this is not a game that can be beaten with a formula. I just enter it with 0 expectations (the way everything should always be started with) and end up enjoying my time greatly. That way when a nice item drops my mind is not set on "f*cking finally man..." but instead on "f*ck yeah!!!".
I've also sold like one auction on the RMAH, since I couldn't use the item (some great Barb shoulders, but sadly I don't enjoy my Barb so much) and it feels really good to not really try hard at all and yet get great fun out of it.
The actual D2 players:
The gamers from that era are no longer 18 or 19 years old, we're more like late 20s even 30s - we know how the world works, we've lived with absolute rubbish games back in the day and we appreciate the up and downsides of D3. We also know that Blizzard generally still provides the best quality and content when compared to any other game developer out there.
I think to this layer of gamers the game is ok. It's not brilliant yet, but it's definitely not something to cry about every day before sleep. 40-50 bucks is not something to cry about either, hell - beer for one night could cost way more than that. D3 is a potentially fantastic platform, give it some time and it will possibly develop into superb game, just like D2 did with LOD release - because lets face it original D2 was pretty damn boring.
The i played D2 gamers:
Yep they are early 20s or even below that, yet somehow despite the simplest calculus they played D2 for many years, even the original... These guys want INSTANT GRATIFICATION. They want to whine and cry and demand things - because lets face it - the modern society rewards whining and crying and demanding - that's the only thing they know and that's the only thing they will ever do.
They are the one and only mistake Blizzard ever made - listening to QQQQqqqQQQqqqQQqqqQQQ. Back in the day Blizzard never did bother with as much 'community management' or even really reading forums. They just released content and it was a simple decision - play it if you like, if you don't - there are many other games to choose from.
Today, because of all these QQs Blizzard actually made a step forward towards community and started working with the community (unlike any other game developer out there), and the only result of them trying to 'satisfy' the 'instant gratification generation' is the incessantly increasing amount of QQ. Because now...the QQers feel empowered! Blizzard did react to them a few times and that was their biggest mistake.
Hence there will always be 2 sides to this argument, and this argument is not based on the game itself, it is rather based on the perception of the world in general and the gap between generations. There will never be any agreement about it or any solution. If 'instant gratification' is not achieved = it's shit. End of story. Screw waiting, screw everything. I paid 40 bucks i want it NOW. While the rest of us are thinking 'wdf have we done to our younger generation? Should've sent them out to work at the age of 16 like we did instead'

Don't you think you're being a bit immature by making such sweeping generalizations? I may be 20, not late twenties, but that doesn't mean that I sit and whine about the game (I enjoy it!) or that my opinion is less valid. I've been around since beta and all-in-all, I'd say D3 is a pretty solid game. There are issues, some of them big ones, but D3 has gameplay that just can't be beat, and I think Blizz will come through in the end.

This is the biggest self-gratification post I've ever seen. You generalize people by age groups, which proves you don't have the tiniest of an idea of 'how the world works' because if you would then you would know age is not a factor in personality, nor is it in maturity. If you want to make yourself feel better because you're older and therefore 'a superior gamer' than go right ahead, but don't expect people to buy that load of shit you're trying to peddle.
I can't believe somebody out of High School could even come up with such a theory, haven't you learned you're not a unique snowflake anymore?
Regardless, given communication or not from the devs you will always have the people who complain and those who do not... and before forums there were STILL people who complained and those who did not - because that is how we operate as a fucking consumer. So it has absolutely nothing to do with 'instant gratification' nor does it have to do with the dev's communicating with us, because none of it will shape our opinions more than the game itself already is, and will always.

I can't believe you think that. I'm 34 and have been playing Blizzard games since WC2. D3 is constantly being compared to D2, by players like me. I'm a classic D2 player personally, but I've played my fair share of LoD. I won't go on about myself or much longer about D3 but Blizzard did NOT reach the expectations of the anticipation behind this game.
My faith in this company has been shaken, I had a bad feeling the moment Bashiok was telling us to lower our expectations for D3, comparing it to the signs or the village, while D2 was the sixth sense. Literally, telling us to lower our expectations, about a game made from a company who has been renowned for pushing back release dates for the best gaming experience. It's not the same company anymore and while I have over 1300 hours played, the waiting game is finally over.

Sadly this isn't the first game QQers have ruined. Instant gratification has ruined a lot of games sadly and I am still in search of something to replace a game I quit recently due to a company giving into the QQers

It's a strange time in gaming really, they're playing with new marketing, financial and content models. I wouldn't say Blizzard is terrible now, they've definitely been trying hard to hit another jackpot cash cow.
I just would say this team headed by mr 'f*ck that loser' ballsed this game.
It isn't even about instant gratification, the problem here is there's very little gratification even when something does drop. They still make the best cinematics at least. I thought this game's story was a bit half-hearted and contrived and the fact Cain got killed by a cartoon villain idiot woman wasn't shocking it was just an insult to his legend.
Anyway, I play this game when my friends ask me to accompany them and play something better (of which there are many games) the rest of the time.

"For the price of one bullet you can eat 4 hotcakes." - Vash the Stampede.
All that PvP stuff is essentially free for us cause we already payed for the game so Blizzard just has no intentions on investing resources in free content upgrades.
I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't developing PvP arenas at all in those 7 months. Now we will get our useless duel button and more PvP will come in next expansion.
Paragon, Monster Power, Ubers and the reworked legendaries were also free content. Why should PvP be different?
If your mentioned free content wasn't added then you would have max 15 people playing on D3 servers right now.
Now they thought we will give them dueling (which prolly took less than 1 day to implement) and they just got themselves 6 more months to "work" on PvP.
1. You don't know that for a fact. Actually it's a super bad prediction. Avoid becoming a video game analyst if you can.
2. "Gives them more time to work" means "spending more time on the same thing they've been working on for at least several months". They just scrapped what they've been working on for lots of time and all they've done so far has been for nothing as it wasn't up to standard. Any other company would just put out whatever pile of sh*t they developed because it's wasted time/money otherwise. Blizz decided it's not good enough and they'll start from scratch. Chose your camp wisely. What would you do if it was your company?
I bet that if you take 100 D3 players (who also played D2 and D1) and have them describe how they would want D3 to be, you will get 100 different answers and if those people try to cooperate, compromise their "wants" and make an "up-to-date" diablo game, you will have D3 as it is now, more or less, minus the auction house, maybe.
Also,
Three things were certain about D3, even before it's release:
1. It would sell well and a lot of people will like it.
2. A lot of people would whine and compare it with D2 (yup, I did that a bit when D2 was released and compared it with D1 but then I got over it quickly! )
3. People would whine and cry about pvp for a) it wasn't released on time and when it is released there will be a massive rage because a certain build from a certain class will be slightly better.
(ps. PvP was never a main focus for blizzard in diablo games. it was ALWAYS a treat, an extra feature, a bonus, a way to say thank you. Instead, atm with all the whining taking place and the massive criticism around the corner, they will have to focus even more on that)
Two things.
One, what exactly were you crying about D2 compared to D1, D2 was an upgrade in every way.
Two, the auction house ruining Diablo is a huge misconception. If you wanted to spend hours in the trade channels for gear in D2 you could, you weren't forced into it. No one would be complaining about the auction house if we could find gear in game, that is the issue with the auction house, it's the only place to find gear. The auction house is a huge improvement to trading.
And I couldn't care less about PvP, to me, the PvE aspect of the game is more important, but, even so, they are a hell of a company (or at least they were) and they take amateurish decisions like this one...

Sadly this isn't the first game QQers have ruined. Instant gratification has ruined a lot of games sadly and I am still in search of something to replace a game I quit recently due to a company giving into the QQers
stopped reading right there.
WE WILL PUT DUEL IN THE GAME!
KAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKEKEKEKEKEKEKEKEEKEKEKEEKEKEKEKEEK!!!!!!!
Paragon, Monster Power, Ubers and the reworked legendaries were also free content. Why should PvP be different?
Ha. Bagstone.
Ha. Bagstone.
