Bot's can easily scan for the yellow / brown / green color on rares legendaries and sets on the screen, and easily left click. If the bot can move and attack, it can pick up an item.
The discussion was aimed at why is there no offline mode, 1.0 - 1.03 is the reason, 1.04 did little fix it, it just made legendaries better, 1.05 will be the real increase in droprates, 1.04 did nothing to increase droprates or the likelyhood of getting ilvl 63 rolls on affixs.
Again there is a reason you havent found that much in gear, because very few people can, I would say that the top 1% of players can run a3 with full MF in a fast time. The top .01% have had enough free time to hit para 100. Only these people will find an item worth a shit regularly.
EDIT - Blizzard knows, that the casual standard 90% of their player base, will NOT hit para 100 anytime soon. They continue to state how long it is going to take players to hit 100, even though some have achieved this. And the sad thing is, a lot of those players, are commenting on how easy it is, how much this will hurt the economy, and how much the hellfire ring sucks because it doesnt have a huge proc anymore. 30% more xp is great for people who are casual, its great for new toons, and it can possibly maybe rarely roll amazing stats. Sorry to get off topic, but again, the dev's know that the game shouldnt be controlled by that 1%, and they are listening to the majority so that they can bring players back to the game.
Second Edit - I am sure it is against the rules to post anything to do with bots or scams or hacks, so all I can tell you is there are a few very popular hacking forums that are easily google-able, these forums have countless bots scams hack exploits posted freely for the public, and some that are not so wide spread for elite members. Most of them get banned very fast, but because of the RMAH, a lot of people set up 10+ bot account getting items or sniping the AH, resell for money, make enough to pay for their accounts + some, continuously cash that money out, and even if all 10 of those acct's are banned, they made enough to buy 10 more, and have profit on top of it. Anytime real money is involved, you can be sure hackers will search for a way to exploit weaknesses.
1) How does it tangibly affect you? I hear a lot of people say "it ruins the game" or somesuch, but I'd like to know how it does this in your opinion. Or do you have very bad internet, or a firewall at your university, or whatever, and have trouble connecting to battle.net?
2) In D2 we had to join trading games if we wanted to trade, limited to 8 players. The other players might be afk, might not have good stuff for trade, might not want what we had for trade, etc. We began to use SoJs (unique ring ) and perfect skulls (good gems) for currency.
But even this wasn't enough, and a site called d2jsp was born. Because it addressed a glaring need among d2 players by giving us a currency (forum gold), the site's founder got rich off it.
2) And so my second question is, how could Blizzard have addressed players' need to trade easily with a fluid currency *without* implementing an AH?
Since you asked nicely I will try to eplain.
First of all, Blizzard's people stated that in no way the item droprate was designed with the AH as a first priority in mind.
I think it is total BS.
If you do not agree with me on this first point, then you'll most likely differ with the rest as well.
I'm sure that anybody with a love for economy will acknowledge Diablo 3's AH as a success. From this point of view it is. It seems to work pretty well. Supply, demand, sinks, exchange rates... plenty of fun for all of those who like this sort of things.
I don't. I really don't. But i'm a huge Diablo fan. I played the first one and the second for hundreds of hours. And never, never did i indulge in trading or speculating or making gold for the sake of gold or to buy godly items. In those two games, it was never mandatory. This is why I feel cheated, in my expectations as a Diablo fan, by this auction house. And this brings me to my second point.
Why I don't enjoy buying items.
It's not like I don't enjoy it. It's just that finding them is pretty much a thousand times more enjoyable to me. I like, when browsing my caracter's stuff, to remember how I got this or that. Was it on a boss, in an urn, on a pillar? Did i explode on a molten viper in my eagerness to pick it up?
An item you found has a story. A story you wrote by playing. Items you buy feel soulless.
The auction house and the stupid drop rates that came from it ruined much of this pleasure.
Seriously, with good mf, you may find like 5 rares/elite. How can you still call those items "rare" in any way? And 99,9% of them are crap. So much for the stories.
Well in fact this is not so much the auction house than the way you're forced into it. I'm not this kind of stupid people who resent others for enjoying something they don't. It's a real good thing there's an auction house for those who like this sort of things. But I wish the game wasn't design around it. The way it is, I'm forced to bear the downsides of the auction house when I play, wether I use it or not. That's why it feels wrong as a whole to me.
Now. At first, when I played D3, I blamed the always online thing on the Auction House.
But as for the droprate, Blizzard's people stated that the always online requirement is not drm and it's BS too. It would have been the same with or without auction house so...
Final word : don't mistake me. I love the game. There has been much improvement from D2 in other aspects. The two first had their flaws too. I say it again, I love the game. But this is all the more frustrating. We were just two steps away from perfection.
You think it's bs? What a reasonable and non- subjective answer. The drop rates are FINE, it's the affix rolls that are just a tad too random, however there are TONS of decent items up for trade, and a decent amount of amazing items. That means someone is getting them, or you could think blizzard is putting those items there. Even though I'm talking mainly of the gold AH. The AH is just trading made easier..
The AH isn't frustrating because it is there, it is frustrating because it is required. Play the game without using the AH once at all ever on a toon, let me know how that goes. Beating inferno is the easy part (post 1.0.3, I'd love to see you do it in 1.0 without using the cheesy builds) of that scenario, finding upgrades to get you above 50k dps will be the fun part.
For the last time, this is Diablo 3, not World Trade Center 2012. You should be able to find good gear on a regular basis without touching the AH.
I am sick and tired of hearing people say the game is impossible without the AH. Do you know how easy the game is in 1.0.5? Well let me tell you a story....
I've sold all my gear on the RMAH 2 weeks ago. I wanted to try out the PTR but my character was NAKED except for a few items that I've held on to because they're worthless (sub 1M items). Check my current profile to see what I had.
I went straight to act 3 with 0 monster power. Guess what happened? I killed stuff and from the drops that I found, I slowly started to become more efficient. I started at about 5-10k dps and it was really slow going (killing a tremor took me probably 10 seconds) but it was possible. This is with my character half naked. Eventually I got drops (first a shield, then a real offhand) and things started to get even easier. After about 30 minutes I was up to 20k dps and killing elite packs fairly easily (nothing compared to my old gear but doable). I even got a legendary drop despite my horribly slow kill speed. Please don't tell me that the game is impossible without using the AH. Instead of complaining, actually farm in the game and get better gear/improve your build/learn how to handle your character better. 1.0.5 zero monster power is amazingly easy... even with horrible gear.
The new patch is covering all of your complaints .. why must you complain anyway?
Only these people will find an item worth a shit regularly.
You do realize if everyone found items worth a shit regularly, then all items wouldn't be worth a shit because it's the norm.
Say everyone had a single character which has 10 item slots. If you can farm and find 10 items worth a shit in a day of farming, well that is now your norm and since everyone can do it, all items aren't worth anything. You need that same rate, but more than 1 character per account, and only 1% of people being able to do it to have scarcity. Without scarcity items can never be worth anything.
Yes it's a tough balance and it may not be right yet, but when I go look at the SC AH all I think is holy crap this is oversaturated and there's already too many good items out there. This is because those top 1% find so many more good items that they raise the bar of what is classified as good (stupid James Cameron).
As for the reward of "I found something good" this can happen at any scarcity level really. What I would prefer, however, is they reduce the randomness range of items, which will increase the quality of drops, then reduce the number of drops by an equal amount. I'd much rather find 2 rares an hour and know they're good in some form over the current full inventory trash sifting.
P.S. For the OP: I think the AH does wreck things because if you don't use it the game is so much harder, but the majority of people will take the easiest route so it trivializes levelling (I play HC and sure I could play SC and just delete a character when I die, but no it's not the same and why would I do that to myself ... I play within the rules of the game). Games like this allow drops up to a monster level, meaning you get many lower level drops, but you only kill at your level generally. Meaning if you just progress yourself with no higher level help, it's constantly a challenge because you have underlevelled gear. The AH allows us to easily get high quality gear at our highest level, trivializing progression.

I'm not complaining about anything here, but I dare you to come and play HC and don't use the AH. In fact make a youtube series on your progress. The game gets incredibly hard in NM if you don't twink/AH at all.
The thing about the AH is you can just go put in time, farm gold, and buy a solid item. If you don't twink, then gold is worthless and the challenge grows substantially.
1) How does it tangibly affect you? I hear a lot of people say "it ruins the game" or somesuch, but I'd like to know how it does this in your opinion. Or do you have very bad internet, or a firewall at your university, or whatever, and have trouble connecting to battle.net?

Again you people really don't grasp the point. Of course "someone" will get them, there are still at least 2 million players in each region, or thats my guess, the point is everyone should be able to on a regular basis get a legendary drop (crappy or not), or a rare with some decent stats, otherwise the game feels like a waste of time. If you had a dry spell, and did not get a single even remotely good drop, for 1 month, would you feel like playing? I bet not. The game gets very tedious for the casual players right now. I have played since release, I have had exactly 3 legendary drops, none of which were worth more than 100k. I have found enough rares, and saved up a total of I think 75 mill. I have only spent money on bargains and tried to save. As a casual player I think I am prolly somewhere in the middle of the casual pack as money goes, lucky casuals I am sure made nice bank.
If you are talking ilvl 63 rares, yes the affixes are not a tad too random, they are way too random. If a wep doesnt roll with 1 good dmg modifier, its worthless, if armor doesnt roll with a main stat + another good stat, it prolly wont sell for more than 10k, if it comes with res all you can prolly get 100k, if you are actually lucky and get something with res all, a main stat, and cc / cd, youre starting to look at some ok money.

You obviously have not read any of the posts leading up to these. Go check my posts and come back spewing your rage some more.
If you are too lazy here you go
In a nut shell, I have stated that 1.05 feels very good, and is a great step toward how the game should feel for us as gamers.
I also in the post you even quoted said the game is easy on inferno, the hard part is gearinging over 50k without using the AH. You mentioned getting to 20k, grats thats simple find gear with your main stat get your crit chance to 10%, done 20k dps.
Only these people will find an item worth a shit regularly.

No where in any of my posts did I say people should be finding PERFECT ROLLS regularly, I said we should be finding useable upgrades, if not for me for someone, regularly. On live right now if I clear a3, I might find 1 rare wep with over 750 dps (1h's of course), maybe 1 rare armor piece that might sell for 100k+
EDIT - The game should not be balanced so that 1% of the players, aka people who can play for 30+ hours a week like it is their job, or players who pay to win, or the random person who extremely lucky, are the only people who should be decked out. The game is made for everyone, and everyone should be able to be a badass without having to invest 500+ hours.
Also to that other poster, I'd just like to say since you didn't read anything else I stated anywhere on these forums except what you tried to flame, I get to play maybe 8-10 hours a week, but usually around 5-6, I am part of the casual core of this game, We make up well over half the pop, and not all of us are mouth breathing retards who dont know how to play.
I'm not complaining about anything here, but I dare you to come and play HC and don't use the AH. In fact make a youtube series on your progress. The game gets incredibly hard in NM if you don't twink/AH at all.

Dont bother trying to explain anything to him, he will just flame you. I have a level 60 para 3 HC barb that I play, with my 600 dps 1h's. Honestly if the SC AH was anything like the HC AH, all of the flamers in the world would see what truely haveing to farm for items is like.
So much QQ. Why is it people always constantly have to bitch and complain whenever something dont go their way? Youngsters these days a really to used to be the center of the world. If Diablo 3 is such an unfair game, with such an unfair game ruining auction house. Go have fun in Torchlight 2 or path of exiles.

We still have not figured out that blizzard wants to keep and grow its player base, not send it to other games.

you guys know the auction house would be 10 times better if they would add the option to shift click an item into the search field
THAT WAY IT WOULD BE EASY TO FIND THE VALUE
as it stand right now when im trying to sell shit its fucking annoying as shit, just to see if something is worth anything. i spend way to much time doing just that. not to mention having to leave a game to check or sell items on the auction house is sooo annoying.. so fucking bad
also 3 search fields for the first 2 months? wtf blizzard fail
the auction house GUI is complete garbage, and buggy
not only did blizzard make it seem like u HAVE to use the auction house. they made it painful to even use it
The AH-haters are very well entitled to their feelings on the subject, just the same as anyone else.
However, the line must be drawn when they play the "father knows best" card and simultaneously say that it's bad because they don't find it fun and that anyone who finds it fun is not allowed to have that opinion.
The only opinions that are not valid are the ones where people are completely and utterly disrespectful of the fact that they are not the only people playing this game. You dislike the AH? Great. Voice it in a constructive way. Whining, crying, and calling anyone who disagrees with you a "cheater" or "not a true fan" really should result in infractions.
I'm simply incredulous at the number of people who want to so vhemently force their opinion down everyone elses throat because the only invalid opinions are of those who disagree with them.
Why is it that in the context of the conversation that "the AH sucks" is a fact and "the AH isn't so bad" is completely invalid? It's complete ignorance, lack of civility, and downright intolerance like that which have driven me from the forums. There's a difference between constructively expressing ones opinions and being completely disrespectful of the fact that others will not agree with your opinions, but that simply disagreeing with you is not cause to judge their opinions as invalid.
None of your opinions are more "right" than the others are. No matter how badly you may believe that your feeling that the AH molested your sister is correct, it's just a stupid, shitty, opinion and opinions on the internet are worth less than Frostburn Gauntlets.
No where in any of my posts did I say people should be finding PERFECT ROLLS regularly, I said we should be finding useable upgrades, if not for me for someone, regularly. Are you trying to suggest that players who do not use the AH do not regularly find usable upgrades?

That is not a suggestion, is a fact. I got my WD with "decent" gear, I got 25k dps, ~350 AR and 50k hp. I can barely survive Act 3, it is not enjoyable, I die twice or more when I find elites. Im paragon 8, since paragon 0 I didnt find a single useful item, not for my WD or for any other class I have. And when I say non-usable items, I mean bows with only +int, WD daggers with +str and no int, a decent rolled item but with 320 dps, etc etc etc.
Once you identify your 567th rare and are all the same.. well, you quit. But, if you want to have a coherent item, you have only one way to do it -> AH.
None of your opinions are more "right" than the others are. No matter how badly you may believe that your feeling that the AH molested your sister is correct, it's just a stupid, shitty, opinion and opinions on the internet are worth less than Frostburn Gauntlets.
rofl nice...i bet my first legendary after 200hours played will be some frostburns with a manically sweet roll
First up, I'll say I've used the AH for both buying and selling. I dont bother trying to sell anything anymore, since I quite simply cant be bothered. I'd rather just be playing the game than spend time price checking and keeping an eye on the AH.
I dont actually like the AH though becuase to me, its just thrown the balance and enjoyment of the game completely of the rails.
1 - Buying stuff isnt really rewarding. Its great to improve your character and win a bid, but finding an awesome item after taking down an Elite pack or Boss was kind of the point if playing Diablo (for me anyway). This leads to..
2 - Not using the AH, seems like an easy solution to the 'reward' feeling being lost from actually fiding gear in game, but honestly, I wouldnt be playing D3 anymore without the AH. If I relied on drops I would have to keep playing either Hell/Hell or A1 Inferno over, and over and over again until something decent droped and enabled my character to proceed further. D3 just isnt that entertaining and most stuff that drops is rubbish and theres not much else to do in D3. Blacksmithing anyone?
3 - Once you've made it too Inferno with your 1st character, you will likely have enough Gold to buy gear for every other character you decide to play up to 60 with ubber gear, effectiviely activating 'God Mode'. Again, you could argue to simply not use the AH, but I know its there. I know that almost EVERYTHING that drops is TOTAL RUBBISH compared to what I can find on the AH for a few Gold in a matter of minutes.
So with all that said, although the AH itself is cool, it has done way more harm than good to Diablo.
So much QQ. Why is it people always constantly have to bitch and complain whenever something dont go their way? Youngsters these days a really to used to be the center of the world. Am i living fallacy??? Because i dont sit and bitch and whine about everything? D3 is what it is, it can't fit everyone. You can't please 2 million people at the same time. The dev's time could be spend on making the godly nice end game and further progress to the game. But no no no half their time is spend dealing with the thousands of "I want this" "I dont want that" bla bla yada yada. Your bitching already killed wow. Your bitching and QQ'ing end up killing D3 aswell. How about stfu and play the game? Or dont if thats what you prefer.

Dont bother trying to explain anything to him, he will just flame you. I have a level 60 para 3 HC barb that I play, with my 600 dps 1h's. Honestly if the SC AH was anything like the HC AH, all of the flamers in the world would see what truely haveing to farm for items is like.

We still have not figured out that blizzard wants to keep and grow its player base, not send it to other games.

Oh man, you are a living fallacy, here, one more.
THAT WAY IT WOULD BE EASY TO FIND THE VALUE
as it stand right now when im trying to sell shit its fucking annoying as shit, just to see if something is worth anything. i spend way to much time doing just that. not to mention having to leave a game to check or sell items on the auction house is sooo annoying.. so fucking bad
also 3 search fields for the first 2 months? wtf blizzard fail
the auction house GUI is complete garbage, and buggy
not only did blizzard make it seem like u HAVE to use the auction house. they made it painful to even use it
However, the line must be drawn when they play the "father knows best" card and simultaneously say that it's bad because they don't find it fun and that anyone who finds it fun is not allowed to have that opinion.
But, if you want to have a coherent item, you have only one way to do it -> AH.
rofl nice...i bet my first legendary after 200hours played will be some frostburns with a manically sweet roll
