I recently got around to leveling the smithy and dear leader comrade Shen, for no particular purpose except I finally had the gold to do so and there were a lot of bs patterns taking up my stash space.
Anyhow, I want to liquidate the remainder of my tomes, books, pages, and various bs mats since I have nothing of value to craft myself. Unfortunately the AH menu for doing so is much less strait forward than with equipment. Am I missing something obvious or should I attempt to sell them by alternative means?
The AH menu is simple. You click on the item you want to sell, and then it will give you an average price for what the item is selling for. You enter the number you want to sell (or do nothing if you want to sell everything of that specific thing) and then create the auction. Then bam, 2 seconds later it will be sold and you'll have gold in your stash.

Right, but the average price could be highly misleading depending on how it's being calculated. I didn't trust the figure in absence of an actual list of auctions ala equipment AH menu. I gather there is no way around it then?

I at first didn't believe the average prices either. I took a couple smithing plans, saw the low average price, then I tried selling it for much higher. They never sold. When I saw the inferno prices of mats around 1.1k each (tomes and essences), I put them up in quantities using the average price. They literally sold in 2 seconds. I can't say that I'm being ripped off or not, but either way, I'm making bank. (unless a vendor will buy the item for more than 1.1k)

IIRC the average price on tomes and such were quite close to their vendor values, but I could have been mistaken on that. In any case thanks for clearing that up.
[I may as well mention i've got ~400 tomes, hundreds of pages/books, and dozens of various rare/magical crafting materials to sell. If anyone wants the lot of it in bulk send me a private message. - DO NOT POST]
For what it's worth, I'd consider tomes and tears to be "high volume" commodities and essences to be "very high volume" commodities.
Due to the volume I would very much recommend taking the 10-trade rolling average with a grain of salt, as well as thinking strongly about not undercutting. From my personal experience, with high-volume items, it's usually possible to get much more than the current 10-trade average if you're willing to relist once or twice. Depending on the current trading value, I've rarely had any issue getting 25-50% more on essences (and tears) and I don't find that I'm relisting all that much either. You just have to know day-to-day trends and plan accordingly.

I suspect that I know when these trends will be occurring weekly, but I would have to watch a bit to verify. Thanks for the tip.
