1. The play style you like
2. The resource system you like.
1.a You like casters?
WD or WIZ
.b You like ranged?
.c You like Melee
BAR or MNK
So if you like casters, well then you try both. Until you try both, you will not know? Any good gamer will be able to be effective with any of the 5 classes. So you try them both, see which feels better to you, and which resource system you like better, and there is your answer.
The only person who is going to know what you like, is you. All you can do is pick the playstyle you like best and try the one within that playstyle.

Hmm, I don't know really. I want range so DH or Wizard (both female). I'm thinking DH because DH can keep her heatred constantly up with correct talent choice which let me forget about using primary skills (heatred regenerators) and do high constant dps. Wizard on the other hand looks like she can output a lot of damage in a burst but after each short burst she has to use regenerator at least twice (which can take a second at least - which is boring).
So I say if you want to have constant quite high dps and be more like rogue/hunter in WoW go DH, otherwise Wizard which is like WoW mage.
But honestly I will choose one from above who I like playing more/gives me more fun. I will try both at first. I may try every character through act1 first and then decide.
I've decided so many times before in other games, but still hard as f***
I am so fortunate as to have won a beta key at least, so now i can play around with all the classes before release, which should help.
Before i played in the beta, my ranking was as follows:
Barb > Monk = Wizard > DH > WD
But after getting "beta maxed" i don't know anymore. They all seemed really awesome except the WD for a period, but the only reason for that was that the WD lacked good early aoe (which it kind of made up for with really good single target dammage), spiders and frogs felt a bit lackluster compared to the other classes abilities, but with the exlosive primary attack and fire bats it quickly became a joy to play as the others.
I love big explosions a lot, so it will play a big deciding factor, but i will have to look at singe target and utility/crowd control too.
When i actually end up picking i never pick what i like, but what i dislike the least. With that i just use eliminatiotn, example of stuff i kind of dislike; summoning, pet control. projectiles that can be dodged, being squishy, immobile, buffing and debuffing. With these few examples i ordinary ended up with the barbarian.
