Hey guys, I was wondering, does merc's slill applies to allies?! I know it applies to me but I did some research and didn't find anything. By allies, I include my zombie dog and gargantua. I want to put some extra crit chance on them but if it does nothing I will chance my gameplan! Thanks!!
Basically using them for damage is pointless. Use them for utility. The most important being Unity (if your own build allows) and the Oculus Ring for the damage boost circle on the ground.

I dont find oculus that great myself, getting the circle in a good position just doesnt happen often enough, Id much rather have the cc from Wyrdward with Fulminator or Thunderfury, you can squeeze out more damage from the lack of repositioning than from gaining what is mostly a lucky oculus proc placing.
You are entitled to your opinion, but I think the oculus proc can be at least, on average, 50% uptime, more so with some builds than others. Either way, that equated to a 45% overall damage increase, which, I think if you're pushing GR, will need all the extra DPS you can get.
Followers could actually be one way to completely change D3 for the better. Not sure who has played the Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing, but the main toon's Katarina follower has an incredible set of skills to choose from. Gearing her up is very, very important. She does great damage, and she is included in parties. Everyone in the party has their own Katarina.
D3 Follower suggestions:
** Offer up Belt/Gloves/Boots/Bracers slots for followers.
** No more "Cannot die" relic because that is the only option players have. By offering more slots and having us work for their gear we earn a follower's durability.
** Double or triple the available skills to every follower.
** Allow followers to be present in parties, but fade them out like WD minions so as to not be too visually distracting.

Merc don't crit, AFAIK
Give this guide a read on followers.

You can rationalize it any way you want, but simple fact is this:
for most builds, in serious pushing, oculus is the most important thing follower can provide.
The sooner you learn to play with it, the higher you can push.
Who's taking what personally? I don't care about some random 50% number.
I'm just stating a simple fact, which is obvious to anybody who is pushing for top20 positions.

Or just one little change - make followers go to position where you pinged.
So much frustration saved.
