so in the beta gold seemed pretty easy to come by after a bit especially since its shared among all your characters. in patch 13 they have increased the amount of gold monsters drop as well as reducing the cost of leveling up the blacksmith by a wopping FIFTY percent. he was already super easy to level up to lvl 4. i had him maxed out within two days in the beta and thats without gold find and with spending 7.5k on making my stash bigger. so now that the gold is increased and BS reduced he will be insanely easy to level up.... i wonder why they did this...?
what do you think... to easy to level up BS = bad? your thoughts?

I too was concerned about this, but without the entire game it's really impossible to tell about how expensive it gets later on.
how expensive the BS gets? they list the cost on the D3 website...and its 50% overall.... it was merely liek 110k TOTAL to level him up from 1-10... now its going to be 55k gold total. the pages is the only thing thatll be harder to come by, but they seem pretty easy to find considering its 5 pages per level up. honestly i got like 30k gold in the beta without even trying to farm it....

Another factor here is they also reduced the amount of gold you get from selling items. I was getting alot of gold over time by just holding onto whites and selling them each time I hit a waypoint. Occasionally if I didn't need mats, I'd sell blues too.
Overall, however, I think we just don't know enough about the end game and what the costs of the artisans are going to be to make an informed decision at this point.
I've sorta been wondering the same thing. If they want to make gold valuable this time around I would think things would move in the opposite direction. Hard to tell with such limited content so far though. You would have to think they have considered this. Sounds like item repair is the major sink anyway. Since you only have to level the BS and Jewler once per account they can't really be a long term sink unless the highest levels required years of farming to obtain which they would never do.

Because making it "expensive" to level up will push casual people away from experimenting with the Crafting System.
The benefit you describe, by making it "hard to level it up" is actually pointless. As you yourself said, you maxed it out "with ease", so ask yourself, if its a bit easier, does it really matter? No. However, if it is harder, it may disuase a lot of people from using an important game dynamic, which hurts the game.
Remember, Normal Mode is for everybody. Nightmare and above are for the serious Diablo player.
In other words, don't worry about it. Gold scarcity will no doubt become an issue at some point after Normal.
While it is cheap to level him up, it's probably going to be expensive as heck to craft at the higher levels. Especially when you keep rolling the same godly items trying to get the most beneficial stats. Leveling the blacksmith may be easy, but see how much gold you can hold on to in Beta by rerolling every piece of armor you make for your Witch Doctor until it has a benefit to your intelligence, and not a crappy low number at that. These are the lowest level items you can get, imagine rerolling and rerolling the high level shiz you find recipes for.

They are easy to find because you only need 5 of them? How can you make such a ridiculous assumption, based on a unrelated stat, about something you literally have absolutely no experience with? They need to do a better job of teaching what the scientific method is.

I got about that, I had 5 level 13s, and had done multiple runs with each of them. I'm not sure what you're definition of farming is, but it's wrong. You may not have been actively 'trying' to get gold, but playing the game extensively and doing many runs definitely constitutes farming.
Yea they used to drop, they weren't overly common, or at least were definitely the limiting factor of leveling up the blacksmith. However there is no reason to assume that they would keep the same drop rate, and in reality I think its safer to assume that they've changed the drop rate quite significantly, since you no longer need them until at least level 4.
If they reintroduced pages of training I'm fine with it. It will become the limitation to your leveling speed, with gold only I actually felt it was faster than with pages.

What he said.
Since a big part of the economy will be gold based (unlike D2), I'm sure they know what they're doing, there are quite a few things to spend your gold on, and the trickiest part be finding the recipes and being able to afford the mats, they don't want gold to become a hinder to developing your blacksmith since its tough enough to actually being able to make the items.
Thats my theory at least, i don't see a reason having to spend a lot of gold on leveling the BS.
gotta also remember that lvling BS doesnt necessarily give you anything. you need to get mats in order to make gears, and this part hasnt changed. so in overall, i think BS stays the same regardless of how easily you lvl it

It also costs gold to create each item. Some gear costs 300g per craft early on. Before the patch I would always run out of gold before I ran out of mats. So I guess it's good. Just did my first playthrough and Got enough gold to almost max him out with one run...

I believe this is a good change. The amount of gold dropped has increased - it wasn't much per monster before - and Blacksmithing is much easier to level. Now don't misconstrue this blue post which states that the gold required to level BS has diminished by half, because just because you have the BS level doesn't mean you can make anything until you have the materials to do so. You will still have to gather all of the mats (and the gold) before you can make anything, thus the only difference this change makes is essentially how fast you get to max level BS therefore allowing you to begin the farm for mats quicker. I think this change is for the best - who agrees?

Are the costs here old or new? I don't remember. http://us.battle.net/d3/en/artisan/blacksmith/progression/#level=1

Both system are fast anyway.
