Every post on this topic seems to have the same opinion, "farm whatever level you can finish in under 5 minutes". I have a different question.
I want ancients, and the possibility of primals. I keep seeing videos for the +1000 paragon players (and some way above that) who have their BiS gear with every stat they want, not the gear that I somehow keep seeing where it is the piece but with shit stats, and what I want to know is what GRs did you players farm to get your perfectly rolled gear? I am farming 65 in about 4-5 minutes with my LoN Bomber (unless I get those damn caves) and I just want to know if this is high enough to consistently be able to expect those pieces to drop for me, in time of course. I know it's random chance and all of that, but I just had to ask. Thanks all.
Longer version. Doing higher GRs only increase the xp, blood shards, and chance of getting a higher number of legendaries. The quality of the legendaries themselves isn't effected. In theory, assuming you have done a solo 70, you could get a primal ancient from a gr 10. The reason they seem to have better gear is because they are probably playing more, and doing those higher rifts faster gets you more shards etc, which gives you more chances at legendaries and in turn better odds you will get that ancient/primal you want.
The key to your question is understanding the answer you've been given.
"Farm as high as you can in under 5 minutes"
Why as high as possible in under 5 minutes? 5 minutes is an estimate or a limit value, based on a lot of math that basically predicts the amount of Grifts per hour you'll run. Remember, the guys and gals that put out these videos/statements, are the ones playing for 7-12 hours a day, and the point is to maximize their rewards for time investment. Assuming of course that you'll spend approx 10 minutes per hour, upgrading gems, in town and doing all the rum drum stuff you do outside of Grifts (including bathroom/smoke/food breaks) if you Farm 75's in 5 minutes, you'll run an average of 10-11 Grifts per hour. If you increase the difficulty to 80, but see an increase of average Grift time to 6 minutes, you'll run 10 Grifts per hour, without taking any kind of break or assuming for town or gems, lowering your average to 9 Grifts per hour. As you can see, less Grifts means less legendaries and less experience.
"But I increased the difficulty, doesn't that count for the experience and legendaries?" Not really. After you've run your solo 70, any legendary can be a Primal, meaning more legendaries, more chances.
"That didn't answer my question." Don't rush me here, the increase of difficulty doesn't mean an increase in legendary drops, it does in a way, but only after 5-7 Grift levels. That means you can run a Grift 10 and get 1 legendary, and then run a 16 and still only get 1 legendary. You could run a 25 and get 3-4, and then run a 30 and get 3. There is no predetermined drop levels, just better chances. So the faster you run, the better chances you have.
"So what if I turn down the difficulty, and run at 3-4 minutes?" That's always possible, but then you're averaging approx 18 Grifts per hour, but without the increased experience and drop chances. Also, that's a lot of keys to burn in an hour. Lowers your overall gem levels as well, as 1% does happen, and running 75's still gives you a 1% chance to 90. 70's have a 0% chance. It's all about finding that balance, and making it work for you instead of against you.
For me (1194 paragon here), with sort of speed LoN bomb sader (In-geom cubed, Wings of Angels for mobility and Akarat Rally instead of Prophet), the most important thing is to be able to kill elites+companions (for getting the in-geom buff) with only 1 bomb/CoE rotation.
If I need to wait for a second Coe rotation, it is too slow. So, my sweet spot is a lot of 64Grs under 4 or 3 minutes, depending of conduits/pylons/density.
In 2.6.1, with the buffed condemn build, I hope to do it higher and quicker (sadly, no LoN buffs).
Thank you for the clarity and detail. My quick return question is about this part
"and running 75's still gives you a 1% chance to 90. 70's have a 0% chance. "
Sorry for the confusion, but I don't recognize the figures you are using. What is the 1% on a 75 GRift that is a 0% on the 70? Everything else, awesome, I appreciate the info.

Sorry, just figured out the whole quote the quote bit. This part. Thanks.
And thanks to the rest of the responses. I just enjoy hearing other people's experiences, helps me figure out better strategies. I had to laugh at myself, the other primal drop I got that night was the Guard of Johanna, and I almost lost my shit when I saw the name that popped up because my highest performing spec is Hammerdin, so of course, I was stoked. And the rolls were worse than on the regular legendary that I still had sitting in my bag. I couldn't believe it, and no matter what one stat I change, the shield is still remarkably worse than the decent ancient I got. The only thing holding me back from getting up to a solid run at 90 is the ancient, decently rolled Johanna's Argument, which doesn't seem to exist in my world of Diablo.

You have 7 possible 1H Flails and a 14,29% possibilities of a Johanna's Argument.
Random is random, but if ancient is 10:1, in 70 yellow upgrades you get 1 ancient one. Yeah, I know, 1.750 DBs, pfff...
Necro has 4 possible 1h scythes (25%) and 4 possible 2h scythes (25%). Much easier...
I got a very nice ancient Johanna's Argument just doing speed 64 Grs with my speed LoN sader, so you never know...
At least I know that at the level I'm farming, it's possible. Patience is tough but at this point it really comes down to that ancient Johanna's. Definitely don't think I'm up for the gamble of almost 2,000 DBs. I could get them, I'd just really like to think that it will drop before then!
Funny thing, I feel like when I'm specced as my Hammerdin, that's when my other spec gear drops. I'm sure it's just coincidence, but when I'm invoker, akkhan's drops, when I'm Hammer, Roland's drops, etc. Probably just stupid coincidence, but at least I like all my specs. Just really wish Blessed Shield wasn't so damn squishy cause it's so damn fun!

He probably mean if you doing greater rift 75 you have 1% chance to upgrade a lv90 gem
That must be it. Thanks, that one was making me wonder. Although now I am a little in awe that people play enough to be leveling their augment gems up as well as their main gems and they are trying to upgrade it with a 1% chance. When it drops below 30% I can't rationalize doing it on a run with only 3 shots. I have had Urshi deny me 3 times in a row at 70%!

Drop rates aren't split evenly among legendary items. Some drop more often than others. So in actuality it's more likely to be less than 14% drop chance.

Krole you speak the truth, although I would prefer to think that someone is sitting somewhere messing with me. Last night I went through about 50 upgrades to 1H flails, not many I know but still went through over 1000 DBs, and wouldn't you know it, I got an ancient to 6 out of the 7!!! But like I said, someone is sitting there looking at my gear and wants me to play just a little while longer because the 1 out of 7 that wasn't ancient was my Argument. Eh, so I have to play a little longer, just makes it sweeter when it drops I guess. I would personally rather it be a rift drop, just seems to be more satisfying that way, but at this point I will really take any!
