So I hit 70 on my barb and got enough gear and set items to run a WW build. With that I started farming greater rifts and such. All of the gear that I'm getting seems to be on part or worse than what I already have. That being said, is there no where to really go from here? Is endgame only about seeing how high in grifts you can get and how fast you can clear them while hoping to get a decent primal? And are primal even that much better than normal gear? I got lucky enough to upgrade a few rare pieces into the primal versions of set items that I have and they were actually worse. Is there not much more to the game past 70 than min/maxing stats a d testing your mettle in grifts?
the gameplay. the hunt for that one item that could be an upgrade for your character, thats the core of the game. I thought i was done with hellfire amulets for my demon hunter on NS, until i crafted a pretty good primal on season today. yeah that feeling is why people keep playing. and you see? you got ancients that are worse than normal legendaries. so you need to farm ancients with the same stats as your normal gear, thats min/maxing.
There is not end game tbh. You can have ancient BIS gear and do all the journeys and challenges within a few weeks of playing.
(I did all the above in less than 2 weeks on the HC server, beat grift 82 then stopped playing.. started playing off/ on with some buddies on SC, but even that is boring now)
Basically its a grind of legendary gems to augment, and finding primal items like you said, usually roll worse in most cases. The game is enjoyable when you start fresh characters and adapt skills based on the items you find with some buddies. Once it hits endgame, its just a bore like doing baal runs all over again.
Good to know that I'm getting into a grind fest. Lmao I know this is going off-topic, but I don't want to keep starting up new threads full of just one or two posts, so I figure I'll ask this here: Is there any kind of guide/walkthrough for the stats and how they work in this game? I know this is probably a noob question, but I'm not quite used to games like this. In the kind of games I normally play its very clear cut on "This gear piece is better than that one" . In D3 you can take two characters with the exact same gear and gemming, but one will have a few hundred thousand DPS higher than the other just because of rerolled stats and such. With D3 only allowing you to reroll one stat per piece of gear, I'm not exactly sure how to min/max stats on certain pieces. I.E. : if stat priority is say INT>VIT>CHC on a piece of gear, and I already have the INT AND CHC on it, but it also has X% of damage to a skill that I don't use, do I reroll it into VIT, or get rid of the bonus damage to the unused skill, and put it into a skill that I do use? Or are the straight up hard stats better?
some builds use very different gearing than others. a thorns build gains nothing from CHC, CHD because thorns cant crit. but CHC and CHD are the best stats to get to increase your dps for almost every other build out there.
Lets use an example of a head piece which can roll a lot of different stats and it might be unclear of what to get on it. first of all you need main stat and socket. after that you absolutely need crit chance. and now for the difficult part. in most cases you will want to go for vit since helmets give a lot of vit. but sometimes getting 15% damage increase on a skill you use is plain better if you can afford the thoughness loss.
A very, very loose offensive stat priority would be Elemental Damage(on bracers, and on amulet if you are lucky) > Int > CHC = CHD(everywhere they can roll on).
After that its getting complicated and not really set in stone, it all depends on the build. some builds have Cooldown reduction above even INT in their stat priorities.
feel free to ask away, or link your battle.net character profile so we can look at and give suggestions. but if you check the builds in the front page most of them have stat priorities on the items.
