I've been searching local stores for the last two weeks and haven't had any luck with getting my hands on a per-ordered CE of DIII. I did however notice that Amazon.com has copies available and was wondering what kinda wait time I should expect if I were to order the game from them?
What is a reasonable time frame to expect my game to arrive with-in?
Do they send the game out before release date -or- do they wait until the official day of release to send out orders?
I haven't pre-ordered yet and plan to at Gamestop. You should always be able to there (assuming there's one nearby). I've only pre-ordered from Amazon once and I actually can't even remember what the game was. They offered release date shipping though and it did arrive on the release date around 2 PM. If I remember correctly the shipping was even free of charge. The next time I tried to use them to pre-order however there was no release date shipping offer so I just went free shipping (around a week) since I wasn't in a huge hurry and I hate paying for shipping.
Long story short: If Amazon does offer release day shipping it should arrive that day.

I preordered from Amazon, and from my previous knowledge of using them, if a game is supposed to release on a day, they ship it overnight the day before (at least I selected overnight shipping) so it arrives that day. Other than that not too sure. If I don't get it exactly at midnight or whatever I'll be fine, give the game some time to settle down after release anyways. Plus I'm all grown up now, got work and stuff, can't wait up late at a game shop ;(
last game i preordered from amazon (Uncharted 3) shipped on release date and I had it a week later (with their standard free shipping). I assume if you get the overnight shipping, it'd still ship on the release date and you'd have it the next day. It sucks that they won't ship it earlier so that the preorders get to their destinations on the release date. They certainly have the stock well in advance (from my experience working in retail) and as long as the product doesn't reach the customers' houses before the release date, I fail to see any issues :/
For the package to arrive on release you have to choose at least 2-day shipping, which will run you a good bit more.
However, if you use your free month of Amazon Prime you can get free 2-day shipping. I did this for my copy of George Martin's A Dance with Dragons and got it the day of release.
Other than that, you can just go to a midnight release (I'm sure there will be one) and pick it up instead of waiting half the day for UPS to drop it off.
I currently have the collector's edition on pre-order with Amazon, it's setup for 1 day shipping right now ($9, not like i wouldn't pay that much in tax if I got it from Gamestop or something).
My understanding is that when a release date is actually given, Amazon opens up what is called Release Day Shipping where it's cheaper than 1 day, and it's guaranteed to arrive on the release day of the game, I'm hoping that option pops up. If not I'll just have to wait till later that afternoon, whatever works.
Considering the game is online only and potentially millions of people will be logging in to play it the first day, I'm not so sure we'll all be playing as much as we think we will on release day, Blizzard is likely to have server issues at the beginning, perhaps it'll be a flawless launch though, who knows.
I've heard of many people receiving their game the day before from Amazon so they have it at midnight on the release day (at least for things like WoW expansions). Given that Diablo III will require access to Blizzard servers in a similar manner, it's totally plausible that they would ship early so you can install and play immediately at 12am PST on Tuesday morning. Anyone who purchases a digital copy or gets a free one via the WoW Annual Pass will have the opportunity to predownload in a similar manner.
I do have the Annual Pass though, so if I do choose to preorder a CE via Amazon, it won't bug me if it doesn't get here until midday Tuesday or Wednesday.
Also, tilgare, saw vox radix in your sig and it reminded me of the old wow days on darkspear ;o Funny to randomly happen upon a darkspearian here.
Same here; Bought collector's edition of everything from blizzard since WoW's second expansion and Amazon always does release date delivery on Blizzard stuff and is always on time. I always go amazon, that way i dont risk the stores nearby being sold out.
I would expect it to only take a day or two to arrive .. unless you live somewhere really remote maybe. You can probably also upgrade to express shipping which may even get you the game on the day of release which would be cool. Not for me though, I need it for the second Battle.net switches on the servers.
