Trust my posts, not that much information is required to go back and forth between server-client that would require some super-crazy internet connection. A 56k modem is not only viable, but reliable. I would venture to guess about 5x more information is passed in a World of Warcraft 5-man dungeon than a 4-player co-op game in Diablo 3.
Unless you have a lot of "noise" or packet-loss over your 56k connection, you will have no issues playing Diablo3.
I have to disagree ith this, Diablo has a lot more NPCs sending information back to the client than any 5 man instance would... However D2 (online) did play fine as 56k.. So I guess we really cant say for 100% sure until we try...
However I agree that I do think 56k will be able to play (as I said in my above post) And one of the other posters made a good point. A little bit a lag in wow wont kill you.. in d3, it very well can.
You only have to worry about Latency, just about any connection these days will suffice. Unless you connection is less than 56k you can play this game with almost 0 network lag. What really matters is Latency, also known as ping. the farther you are from the server source the more latency you have measured in milliseconds. Latency is how long it takes a packet of data to travel to and from the server and client, so if it takes longer because you are farther away then you have more lag simple as that. Obviously if the packet is more than what your speed is per second then you'll have more lag because it'll take longer for the packet to be recieved.

Not even Death will save you from Diablo Bunny's Cuteness!
Also worries about this as its tough to get fast internet here in China, and even if I did there will be a lot of lag playing on US servers.
actually you'd have just about as much lag as someone half way in the atlantic ocean. You'd connect directly over the pacific to blizz LA servers, so i guess you'd have a better ping then someone in say italy or russia.

Unfortunately due to the great Chinese firewall, I have to connect through a VPN. So my connection will go to my vpn in San Francisco, back to China, THEN to the Blizz servers. Sucks to be me.
Sorry for my lack of knowledge but any help wld b appreciated. I have a 3mps Internet speed from AT&T. Do I need to upgrade so I don't get lag while in The game? If I do need to upgrade wld 6 mps be good enough or shd I go even higher? Thanks in advance!
I remember reading a blue sometime ago that stated that they removed the possibility of combat lag. All the combat will be calculated locally by your client. So it will not be possible that a lag spike will be responsible for an ability not firing causing you to die.
However, the client will still send data to the b.net server for confirmation. If the client is hacked and combat is progressing in an unintended manner, the b.net server will know.
