I was just wondering what people think will be the most popular. In WoW, the two easiest classes to level up were Hunter and Paladin, so they became the most popular over time. I wonder if some of the D3 classes are a little easier to level than others. For example, the Witch Doctor with pets might be easier than a Barbarian that has to worry more about his hitpoints. Likewise a Wizard might be a little harder than some classes, because it's a more fragile class. This is not which class you are going to play the most but which class you think is going to be popular with the "masses". Rank the classes in order of popularity if you want as well.
Witch Doctor - Pets! The only class with man's best (former) friend at their side. People can sit back and relax while their pets do most of the work.
Barbarian - Everyone is familiar with the "warrior" character. Sometimes people just want to smash things with a big maul.
Wizard - Another familiar class. Every RPG has a wizard, mage, or sorcerer, but guys tend to like the big brawny characters over the more intelligent ones.
Demon Hunter - Fills the "rogue" archetype. People know what it's about, but might require a little more twitch playing (jumping in and out of monster packs to do damage).
Monk - The second melee class, but more complicated than Barbarian. Monks have not been in very many games either.
I think in the end the Witch Doctor will have the most intrigue. After everyone is done playing with the other classes, I think people will find the most versatile class will be the witch doctor.
It's the obscure in between guys like him that are the most interesting.

Everyone seems to gravitate toward pet classes (assuming they are well-done), at least that's what it seems like to me. Hunter is the most popular WoW class. Necro was definitely a popular choice in D2, especially among single player people it seemed like (pets are nice when you don't have coop buddies online ). Hell they gave every damn class in Torchlight a pet dog/cat/whatever.
I don't have any data to back it up (except for the WoW thing, I know that's true), but it seems like pet classes almost always end up being the most popular.
I'd guess the Monk. He seems the most "new" of all the characters, with the rest somewhat similar to previous characters (Necro, barb, sorc, amazon). Also he moves quick and makes things blow up, and most people like that. If not the Monk, I'd expect the Barb to be the most popular.
Barb based on the fact that most people like this class, know it well and love a good tank. they know how to play it from D2 and basically thats all there is to it.

Not even Death will save you from Diablo Bunny's Cuteness!
those new to d3 would probably choose the Wizard for the overpowered look or the fem monk for awesomeface. And i believe there are a lot more freshmn then there are hardcore fans like us.
Pretty sure it will be Barb, with Wizard as a close second. I think this will be the case because they are so iconic (smashy smashy and pew pews) and so familiar to the Diablo crowd. After a while, I expect the diversity to even out, but upon the release of the beta as well as the retail release, I expect the population to look like this...
MOST COMMON
1st: Barb (Simple, sturdy, appealing)
2nd: Wizard (It's a wizard... familiar, powerful, SPELLZ!)
3rd: Demon Hunter (Dark and mysterious, I expect this to be the most popular amongst the younger age demographic)
4th: Witch Doctor (New class, cool spells, unfamiliar, but has pets! Not instantly visually appealing to everyone)
5th: Monk (Someone had to be in last place, and by process of elimination it is the monk.)
LEAST COMMON
After the initial wave of new characters created upon beta launch and then later retail release, I think it will even out, as far as mains go. After it evens out, I think the Wizard and WD will start pulling ahead, and for it to stay that way for a while. Several months after that, I think the most common will be whoever ends up being the best PvE loot gatherer (even with crafting and trading, someone is gonna have to go make dead monsters), and the 2nd most common will be the best PvPer. Note: There may not be a mathematical, always best, but there will definitely be a best that the community at large somewhat agrees upon.

Bashiok - "How are the tests on feature XXX going?"
D3 Dev - "Well, our test chimpanzee was not able to understand feature XXX, but he is not a smart chimp."
Jay W - "WHAT?! Have it incinerated! Them simplify, no, REMOVE feature XXX!"
Players - "Wow that was close! I could not understand XXX feature, as I am legally retarded/in the Diablo 3 target audience!"

I'd say the Barbarian simply because it's the only holdover from Diablo II. It was the Barbarian in Diablo II at release because it was the most powerful class; decent lance (Or at release, a maul), and Iceblink, and you could WW your way through hell in the mid 30's. Plus they somehow made a vicious class feel even more devastating.
I don't think pets are going to be nearly as important as people seem to think for the Witch Doctor.

I think the most popular class will be the most powerful one (assuming each class will be equally item dependent).
What class will be more powerful on release? I believe the Wd will be the strongest one. Why?
Among all resource systens,i believe the WD's mana is by far the hardest to balance. Matematically, anyother systen can be easilly estimated because their variation occur inside a encounter period or even lower (barbarian's rage tend to go down after each battle, wiz energy rotation seens to occur in a matter of a few seconds, the same for the monk). In other words, the WD is the only class that carry the results (in terms of resources) from one battle to another (unless his mana allways fully recharges from one battle to another, wich is problably not the case). This means all the mana/damage/area relation between skills, in the wd case, must be balanced in a whole dungeon scenrium, not in a combat scenarium. Wich is problably ALOT harder to do.
If you guys played WoW you kno that a common pratice in Blizz balance scheme is make anything they feel it's not balanced overpowered. Basically because overpowered stuff will be greatly used (more popular), generating more data and feedback, allowing for a easier future balance. So, if by release, the WD mana resource is not balanced, it will surely be overpowered.
Brooding anti-hero with ranged attacks, dark magic, and cool abilities? Yeah, the Demon Hunter is probably going to be the most popular class just based on flavor. This is without considering the power of the given classes, obviously. Ultimately, the most powerful class (or the least complex if they're all relatively balanced) is going to be the most common. For example, if it turns out that 4x WD runs are the easiest to farm, you can bet WDs are going to be popular. Everyone will have one as a farmbot. And co-op farming is probably going to be a lot more common/popular than PvP (not to say PvP won't be popular).
Unfortunately the Wizard will be one of the most popular classes just as the Sorceress was in D2. People will be a bit bummed there's nothing super close to the Paladin so they'll try to find the closest thing which will be either the Monk or the Barbarian.
I think almost everyone will make a Demon Hunter at some point or another just because it has a "cool" name. You know... THOSE people.
Actually, the DH never got my interest. I not a fan of ranged classes, never played one in any argp/mmo and never will. I find the class quite boring. Not that i dont want it in the game, off course ppl will feel the other way around and i dont want them to miss the fun. it's just not my type of character class at all.
I completely agree. The Demon Hunter is probably going to be one of those classes that I play at the very end when I have a stock pile of armor for it. Its just not that interesting to me.
Going from the poll, the barb has the most votes. I guess people like starting from a familiar standpoint and then moving from there. You know, so they can get a hang of the new mechanics while also knowing how some mechanics work for the character they are playing. I'd guess monk and witch doctor are the lowest in popularity. There are a lot of people on other forums calling the witch doctors attacks a circus act. Wizard will probably be the second most popular just because it is close and familiar to an older class (sorcs). Demon hunter will probably be like a middle child in this grouping.

Thats my prediction!
Definitely a different question!
I'm rolling a barb for sure, but my guess as to which will be most popular is the DH
