Okay so I was looking at the map of Sanctuary on the Diablo 3 website and i found it odd that there were those little marks on the side of 11 towns those marks are representitive of the place we can visit during our playing time in the game. 11 towns...thats allot being that we could only vistin 5 in Diablo 2 and 4 in Diablo 1 (or was it also 5?). And each town or setting was for 1 act. With 11 towns there must be 11 acts?...or maybe there are no acts. Some are spaced really close so im guessing acts in the are you can switch between towns but theres only 1 place where two towns are very close and 1 place where three are very close. so tthats five still leaving six seperate towns... how many acts can there be

has it been confirmed there will only be one town for each act?
I'd have to dig up the source, but they said that they're working on more than one town for the individual acts. I'm not sure if they mean all of them or not.
I don't remember reading anything confirming how many acts there are, although I feel like Pjanoo should be right.
Like others said, pretty sure there are 4 acts but with lots of quests. I forget but there may even be mini-quests along the way too aside from more important objectives. I'm the kind of person who always enjoyed doing all the quests possible in each act, a sense of accomplishment. Anyone else used to do them all for each character they created?

Who says? I'm pretty sure those are just marking where the cities are, regardless if we are to visit them or not. All the labels without a mark aren't actually cities.
Cities = marked with a tower thing
Regions = no tower

i did that with my first couple characters i think.... but then when i started to clue in to competitive builds and gears, i focused more on getting to a high level fast, rather than actually playing the game (since it was so repetitive). hopefully in diablo 3, there will be no rushing and i will actually have to work to get to a high level lol.

Thanks for the answers. I was just wondering cause i mean there are so many cities and to what atrumentis said about how do i know. You are incorrect in saying they are just cities there is a distinction between the font of Region and Cities to differentiate Regions are much bigger while the cities are in a smaller font. and some of these smaller font cities do not have the little tower things so i could only image the tower means it is a place we can visit.

There's only one that is a city that doesn't have the tower thing next to it, and that's Viz-jun. Viz-jun however is actually no longer a city. According to the wiki, "Viz-jun is a once great city in Kehjistan. Its fall from grace is not known, but demonic influence is speculated".
Gulf of Westmarch is a gulf, not a city.
Xiansai, Philios, Skovos and Skartara are islands.
Frozen Sea, Sea of Light and Twin Seas are obviously seas.
Scosglen is the equivalent to a country, not a city.
Ditto for Swamp Land, Kehjistan, Khanduras, Sharval Wilds, Aranoch, Marshland, Dreadlands and Dry Steppes. All are masses of land with multiple cities within them, not cities on their own.
Toran Jungles is a jungle.
And that's it. There's nothing left that doesn't have a tower next to it (other than Viz-jun).

there were 4 towns in d1? there were 5 towns in d2lod 4towns in d2 and 1town in d1...
Ya I agree with you Necro, they should put a least 5 or 6. In d2 I think that the 4th act was kind of a let down. I really enjoyed the act 5 though! More acts and let them all be diversified.
i heard somewhere that they were planning on 4 acts. but the way they only had 6 quests in the acts (3 in act 4). the way they have the quests setup in diablo 3. we could have 10 or 20 quests per act. which in case would make the act a longer visit.
that might be a good question for someone to ask on the battle.net forums is how many quests do they plan on having in each act. if they have figured out that information at this time.
Me too I remember reading that announcement somewhere... anyway if it's 4 acts containing 10-20 quests excluding all the random side-quests I'm gonna be pretty satisfied. If they can add more things depending on which difficulty you play the game (and I don't mean a change of color and hp+damage augmentation for the monsters), that would be pretty sweet. That would also be a question to ask. What is gonna change from Normal to Nightmare and Nightmare to Hell? The difficulty yes but what else?
well if they plan on having random quests. maybe as you go to nightmare and hell, more quests will be unlocked. and also. maybe keeping on subject. that when you go into nightmare. maybe a new area of the act will become available. that would be pretty sweet!!
I think Astrumentis is right on this, the ones without towers are regions/seas etc. Because of the legacy of blood novel as well, they explain there that Bartuc and Horazon participated in "the battle for viz-jun". Wich is now supposed to be a long gone city or something?
could be this though:
region = viz-jun, City = viz-jun
region = Torajan Jungles, City = Torajan (known from the sin war novels)
Also this, there is a tower at the city of Ureh, so that kinda means it should be a visitable city right? Well, wasn't Ureh a deserted city with evil in it? Evidently that evil got destroyed in the kingdom of shadow. (maybe we set a short camp there?)
interesting shit... lol
Yeah, Viz-Jun is long gone...that's where Bartuc was defeated.
Not sure what you meant with your comparisons though? Viz-Jun has no tower because there's no longer a city there, as you said. Torajan Jungles is obviously a region...there is no city named Torajan, there never was (at least not that I've ever seen mentioned anywhere, someone please feel free to correct me).

I'd love to be corrected, but I don't think it'll happen.
