there are always ppl trying to break into the big leagues, who trade pgems and weak uniques. but the best players dont do that....... anyone who has the best chars wont trade any item less them 5 hrs
Irrelevant, most people are not best players (per definition), therefore Blizzard wouldn't and shouldn't care for best players. They always do something weird and that's up to them. Trust me, playing Diablo II better than other people does not make you better than other people in any other sense. Your inferiority complex is ridiculous. You should get rid of that thing, only makes you unhappy.
In every game, gold has served as money. Just not Diablo lol.

While your statement is true, I'm going to say that that was harsh.
equinox is mad just because she has never left the house before. also she cant get anything worth dick in diablo so her way to attempt is to mule stupid items and pgems.
what is the point of rerolling gcs... will waste more time/effort and resources then its worth.
and noone gets desperate and takes lower prices for items.... anything worth something good noone will accept a lower price, thats the point im trying to make
for example, if i had a perf jmod 4 5/5 lit facets...... there is no way in hell i will get desperate and trade it for less then its worth.... think about this d2jsp ruined the d2 trading system, whats the currency there? GOLD.
all you have to do is post up an item and within 5 min youll get somone willing to pay your price, then when everything has a set price you can never barter again

Using the logic of this argument, one could argue that there is no such thing as bartering in real life. I think that most of us know this is ridiculous. Some people do get desperate, and others do not. Demand varies between people. If demand for something is constant, and supply drops, price goes up. Econ 100,
I am 100% against the idea of an auction house if its going to be browser based. This game is beautiful in its simplicity and should remain 100% ingame
Gold actually allows for a much more complex economy than bartering. Better yet, it lends a point to pure gold collection, rather than searching for a specific item.

You wouldn't say that if you knew this guy. I could understand a brief period, but this has been going on for like 2 years now. And look at his reply. That's some chronic issue there.

And since gold we be autopick it wont be much of a hassle collecting it.
Well, I'd imagine both will be possible if the new Diablo team wants to have any kind of decency. If I have a certain item and want to trade directly for another, I should be allowed to do so wihtout going through the hassle of a gold medium. If I have an item that I just want to get rid of and don't know what item I want for it, I should be able to just amass a bit of gold off it to save up for another trade later. Both would be valuable, depending on the situation. Less absolutes for us means more flexibility, and I'm all for that in a game

right now the sub hr system is pgems.... i mean if you really wanna be small time you can trade for weak items that dont make any difference on your char. but, if you want to be the best you have to trade for the best.
i still dont understand the point your trying ot make equinox... everything will have a set price, and thats how things will happen... very few and far between will you find an item for cheap. im mean its a great time if you get an item for cheap but its just not going to happen on a regular basis.
if gold is the currency then prices will be set, the prices will drop btwn times but for the most part everything will have a set price and thats all you can get for it.
i understand that something will become the currency eventually, the thing is some ppl will consider 'THE ITEM' with a $1,000,000 and some will consider it $1,000. thats what its all about, noone will have a set value.
thats what made d2 so great.... one guy will think his item is worth the world and another will think its worth shit, and you will hopefully you willl catch the guy closest to the lowball price
but when gold is the currency there will be no lowball or highball its only the set price and thats final.
in a nutshell, you can get shitty items for varied prices, but you cannot get a godly item for less then its worth, if gold is the currency

I don't think you're realizing this; with set prices, people can pay attention to bigger things.

that makes no sense, the biggest thing is items. thats what the game is about
Obviously you have no idea that Diablo 1 and 2 had a storyline, an excellent dueling system, and well-thought, but preplanned maps. Item bartering was only a fraction of the fun even in Diablo 2.
pvp was about items, and 10% skill. the only fun was beating ppl without hacks because everyone had them. yeah diablo had a storyline, it was cool the 1st or 2nd time thru the game, but it got repetitive and boring real quick

Pvp was about items. I'm glad you've learned to make sense.
the person with the best items won about 90% of the time, other 10% was whoever had better hacks... alot of ppl dont realize it but everyone hacked duel games.

Fuck you, I'm a dragon.
Exactly right, both can work together
But this is always a huge gamble. I've heard of many times where items totally sack gold.
Really the economy needs to be paid CLOSE attention to and balanced almost like they do with PvP for the first few months in a game.
I think we need a good balance of both item and gold trade.
