Okay, well this is just a small thing I thought of when I saw the question: "Would you pay a monthly fee to play diablo 3". So I thought, and, it depends.
Here's my idea. This is more about battle.net 2 I guess tho. I love buying a game and being able to just play it(single player). I don't love so much tho, buying a game, and having to pay monthly on top of that. So, I wondered, what if you bought d3, could play single-player completely free and whatnot. But if u wanted to play online, you had to connect via lan, OR pay to use battle.net 2 in general. So that, with that one payment, you could also play SC2 on battle.net 2.
They said in some interview a while ago that Battle.net will most likely be free for Diablo III, but some more robust features might be pay-to-use. I'd imagine things like character transfers between realms or something like that, nothing that would affect gameplay.
Starcraft 2 is going to be free online and that runs on battlenet 2.0, Diablo 3 is going to run on battlenet 2.0 so you can only assume Diablo will be free. Basicly exactly what Magistrate posted.
I don't agree with you Lydec....some people don't want to waste money on online play. I mean, I have plenty of other things to do instead of playing a game. If I Have to pay like 70$ for a game and then 10$ a month to play with my friends screw this. Makes like 190$-200$ per year, which is more than I pay for my annual gym membership...for 1 computer game. SO even IF you have a job, it's kind of stupid to spend all that money on 1 game. Anyway, Diablo is a game you play from time to time. It'S a hack'n slash and played when you want to beat the living hell out of hellish creatures, you should NOT have to worry about that stupid 10$ per month and how you must maximise your playing time. Good job Blizz, keep it free!

Just a thought of mine.
Having a wonderful thing called "a job" allows you to do that ... lol

When you pay monthly fees, you do get stuff in return, such as content updates, so it wouldn't be entirely bad.
They said it won't be pay to play except some extra features like sex change, name change, realm change, etc etc.
