when I die in HC its usally from some fucker using tp pk hacks where they can instantly hostile u and kill you anywhere. Last time this happened to me was in durance lvl3... I like the current pvp system but the hacks are outta control.
i havn't read your whole novel because im at work and stuff... but i just have to say that i agree with any pro-PK posts...
"Surely the solution would be to set up an alternative style of game, called something like "Hunter" where you try to hunt down chartacters...
But forcing up to 7 other non-consenting players to play your game is just absurd...
Where is your ability to consider other peoples feelings? "
This is a game based on blood and murder. Feelings? WHo asked you about your feelings?
I mean obviously your not gonna get PKd every single game you enter.. not even for the majority of them. But having the fear in the back of your head that eventually you WILL BE PKd.. even in areas where you really really dont wanna be.. makes the game that much more unpredictable and fun.
Well.. im not talking about spamming trash talk and racial slurs.. im talking about PKing which has always been part of the diablo series. Its an instanced game which you can leave and create at will so PK won't ruin anyones enjoyment, it will only add to the unpredictability of the game.
As for my statement on feelings.. your "feelings" should not be attached to whether or not your killed by another player in game. Sure you might get a little annoyed fro a couple of minutes.. but you just do whatever you were doing again.
Or we can just all play the game through and try to remove any possibility of failure as to have the most "enjoyable" experience.
Personally, I never PKd that much.. I pvpd alot, but not Pkd. However, i did see alot of PKs, but it never effected my gameplay or experience to the point that I wanted it completely out of the game. I feel that it enriched my experience of D2. If your goal is to create a dark and dangerous environment.. what a better way then to add in a feeling of deviousness and evil then not being able to completely trust those who you've been fighting with for the whole game.
This is one of those games that is so replayable that even when PKd and the current game you are in is "ruined".. its not necessarily hard to do it again. WHat I enjoy about PKing and being Pkd is just added unpredictability it adds to the game. From a PKr mindset its just fun to see how many people you can take on and to be the "bad guy". Remember, there is supposed to be pure evil in this world... why should that stop at the mobs. Why can't a player play the role of "evil". If you don't like PKing.. get stronger so you can kill the PKs. It shouldn't be too hard without Hacking and if a lvl restriction is put in place.
It was intended as both obviously... both previous diablos had the ability to PK and PvP so how can you make the argument that it is not intended as a PvP game and that pvp has no place in a leveling game? That argument makes zero sense when PK/PvP was obviously a large part of both previous games in this series.
How can you PvP fairly in an unbalanced game? How can a level 90 PvP a level 99 if they both improved equally? How can a player with Enigma PvP a player without it? It's simply uneven, and uneven PvP is bullshit.
Pvp is a choice.. PK is not a choice. If you dont wanna PvP people who are clearly better you dont have to. If you dont wanna be PKd by people who are clearly better then your really S*** outta luck. And that sort of "evil" game play is fun and should be part of this kind of game environment. However.. there are ways to balace the PKing more.. like lvl restrictions and perhaps even weakening higher lvls a certain percentage relative to to how many levels lower someone is when said higher lvl is PKing that person.
Its how PK is and always has been in this game. If you don't like it then im sorry for you.. but its always been part of this game. (Even though you guys on the side of no PKing are most likely gonna win this argument it seems... in which case im sorry for me and those like me).
Pvp is a choice.. PK is not a choice. If you dont wanna PvP people who are clearly better you dont have to. If you dont wanna be PKd by people who are clearly better then your really S*** outta luck.
I agree. As far as DII goes. It was made in a certain way and PK crawled out. Fine.
But this is DIII. I want change. You don't want change. Difference of opinions... but nobody has the right to say that one or the other will ruin the game.

That is nothing more than your opinion. Why is it better than mine? I enjoyed many parts of DII, but I hated other parts, and I want those parts change, just as any other person that enjoyed DII - that's why they make sequels, to change, to improve upon the previous game to their own view. And to their view, PK is not a good thing, as we heard in the interviews.

I don't see a difference. I am level 50 someone is level 55 but they have a build that is great against my build and my build is against monsters. It's the same sort of PK. What's the difference? I don't understand why weaklings should be advocated. You want to PvP go beat me in Nox or something, where skill, not leveling or build, matter.

So? The game is 10 years old. Back then PvP was a new area and people (devs) were not familiar how to deal with it. Just like games used to be 2D now they are 3D. PK mechanics is the same thing. Considering how uneven Diablo II's PvP has always been, it cannot be its main point. Maybe a part of it. But not its main point, too unbalanced. It was made for PvE.
were on the same level.
been playing since Diablo 1 and i don't plan on stopping.
pk created Diablo.
Pk created Diablo's several gaming awards.
pk created blizzards place and name in RPG games and any sub-category that branches off of it.
taking pk away makes the game a pointless void of endless grinding and a virtual world with an M rating that was created for the 9 year olds that hate the Hostile button.
if blizzard plans on ending PK they are ending the very soul of the Diablo game.
if you want to play a consent-only game where curse words can be reported even though theres a filter then go have fun on WoW.
Diablo should stay true to its name, the devil shows no mercy. why should a game named after him?

I appreciate all the hard work that has been put into this game and it looks amazing. it just doesnt look diablo, it looks like diablocraft.
EVE Online is a great game. There are PKers in this game like no other, and everytime you get killed, you lose your ship and your cargo, and if he kills your pod, you lose implants you put on your character plus some skills. And it costs a LOT of money everytime.
Yet, it's a great PvP game, because of this great freedom you have to be able to attack anyone.
That is a false dichotomy.
EVE Online is first, and foremost, a self regulating MMORPG with its own set of laws, rules and regulations. And it is, by far, governed by the players themselves due to the way the economy functions.
It won't work for Diablo 3, because Diablo 3 is a highly 'instanced' game that doesn't depend on player economy to drive the competitive aspects of the game.
There's actually a purpose to killing your corporate opponents in EVE Online, especially if you do it in force to hinder their extraction of certain rare metals in some quadrant of the galaxy or to divide their fleet to prevent them from massing at any given spot (especially if they're in war against your corporation or alliance).
I think we have pretty much exhausted this same debate between us both.. it seems like me and you are saying the same thinsg over and over. So to close it ill just say that I don't think either of our opinions are better then the others. I am just trying to say that PK has always been part of this game and in my opinion it is a good part because it adds a certain excitment and uncertainty that you can't get from PvE or PvP.
But like you said, thats simply my (and im sure many others) opinion. I think this game, mroe then any other, is a kill or be killed and evil game. PvP just isn't evil enough.. PK is. I don't want to be protected from the evil PKr. I wanna combine with others, or call friedns in to kill his ass. Or, the alternative, I lose and am forced to start over on whatever quest i was doing.
I agree. As far as DII goes. It was made in a certain way and PK crawled out. Fine.

Diablo was a legend. there are still fans out there that crave the sequel and have been waiting 10 years to finally even hear anything about it, and your trying to change it when there are literaly HUNDREDS of great games out there with everything you have described that you want in a game?
Diablo was unique, and i was hoping it would stay that way. i guess instead it could possibly just blend into the hundreds of other games that are the exact same thing as what the WoW blizzard fans want Diablo III to be.
us hardcore diablo fans have been craving this sequel for long enough, don't try to go and ruin it when there are nearly no other games that are comparable in style and pvp quality to Diablo 1-2 LoD

I agree with you Ston3r... when Equinox was talking about changing it I couldnt even fathom why he was saying that.. Why change the game I know and love? It was my favorite game back then for a reason.. i dont WANT to change it now.. I want to improve on it.. but not change it.
Which only makes it worse. It is not all that good... it's just popular. Popular means it applies to the masses. Masses are stupid. Do the math.

How about I just play SP with mods?
I once met a level 15 Pally while being level 18 and he had 15k Smite attack because of all his gear or something. Level means nothing.
