You are not "wasting" money if you are putting it towards a better game - I wish you could see how crappy MMO's would be without a fee, and Guild Wars is not an MMO, its straight up like Diablo - No customer service, and if there is, there is not enough. Would you like it to take 2 weeks for a ticket to be reached, or 10 minutes? How about the nice big content patches and fixes versus tiny patches that only fix a few things? How about High quality servers versus okay ones that some times lag out? - thats the difference between 14.99 a month, and not so. If you don't like to pay 14.99 a month, either get a better job to pay the little bit that 14.99 is, or go play consol games.
Oh yeah, just to get this out: Diablo III and Starcraft II won't have monthly fees, unless they are MMOs, because MMOs are what takes a ton of maintenance, but hey, if they do get monthly fees - thats gonna be some kick ass customer service, high quality servers and patches!

Not sure what you mean, because if we are paying a monthly fee, there will be juicy patches every 3 months or so.
I just realized, if Diablo II had monthly fees, I bet they woulda cracked down on the dupers and such... can't do much when theres no customer service around =P
:cool:i realised that the guys in this site r SOOS diablo minded,i mean u guys don like anythin else!!!!c'mon guys!!!! every game made by blizz was great!!!!
I haven't played D2 in a very long time anymore because the servers were just so hopelessly jammed because of dupers and hackers and whatnot. If we have to pay to play, I'm sure we get more secure servers than we have now.
The servers weren't jammed because Blizzard doesn't have the money to support them. The servers are jammed because Blizzard is too busy with WoW. But when Diablo II came out, it wasn't all that jammed, and it was not pay to play, and it was a great game, and, again, I don't understand what it is you didn't like about Diablo II...
I play SC right now via B.net. A few latency issues? God, just old technology, even Hamachi doesn't do that. It is very easy to correct. And we have latency tricks and all... hackers? VERY, very rare when I see any hackers. I mean... I don't see a problem with B.net. And I am certainly not willing to pay for them to make it a bit more shiny. I don't care. I'm fine with B.net the way it is and the only reason it is that way is because SC is an old game.
When did I say that I don't like D2? It was just so frustrating to play because: ''Failed to join game'' ''Disconnected from server'' etc.
You're right, its not money issue, but with monthly fees they can pay Game Masters and other ppl to report bugs --> keep patching the game. Diablo 2 is a good game for the players, but it's bad business to Blizzard because, once you've bought D2, you are not giving money to Blizzard anymore.
I agree, and thats why I prefer to give Blizzard 14.99 a month for whatever game I'm playing. I want a high quality game, which is what Blizzard only makes, and if I want a crappy game that has no monthly fees, I'll go somewhere else. I'm tired of the cheap people around here, 14.99 a month is absolutely nothing and if they can't afford it they ned to get off the computer and get a better job, or manage their money better. A night out at the movies cost more than a WHOLE month of playing wow, it just doesn't make since.

I already described my situation with SC. It has problems. But those problems do not cost $15 per player, they just don't. They are easy to fix and they have nothing to do with overload of servers, merely BUGS. WOW is one thing, Diablo or SC is another. Those can be supported without pay-per-month. There is nothing special with game support for extra money. Anybody can support a game if they are paid to do it separately.
Blizzard successfully patched SC and D2 before and they weren't pay-per-month. Don't give me that shit.
It's not bad business for Blizzard. I know a ton of small companies with small crappy games for $20 who get profit even from those games. Nox got profit, Perimeter got profit, none of them are popular. Blizzard got more than enough money from diablo 2 and SC. I recently bought SC1, talk abotu them not getting money. There is NO NEED for extra money to support multiplayer, tons of game companies proved that, including Blizzard itself with SC and D2 while they were supported, and the reason SC is so popular because it WAS supported for FREE. And if we go that way piracy will advance to the level where they will begin to crack not only single player, but multiplayer, too, in fact, it's already happening. It's only a matter of want and need.
People who make movies only get profit from cinema versions. People who write books sell their book once to each person. Why should gaming be different?

You should also put Consol games in that list, and the reason is that you pay for constant updates, higher quality servers/maintenence and customer service just to name a few, but this only goes for MMO's. SC, WC/WC2/WC3 and D1/D2 received very good updates for awhile when it was released, but in any sense, if you were to pay a few dollars a month, there would be higher quality of anything going on for those games. I'm not very sure if people really understand the reasoning behind monthly fees - and still, if thats too much money to anyone, they need to re-evaluate their situations in life if they can't afford it. I know people that pay $50 a month for cable that they don't even watch - yet they won't pay $15 a month for a better service for something they play all the time.
SC was constantly updated. At least, constantly enough for me.

If I had to pay a few dollars a month I would NEVER even see these games because I cannot pay per month no matter how small the amount is. I can buy a game but I cannot pay for it all the time, I'm not as rich as you Americans are.
I don't see what's wrong with SC. I don't see what's wrong with Diablo. Why do I need them higher quality? I like them the way they are, I don't want to pay 5 extra so that they are a bit more shiny! I don't value the treat for the box it was in, you know? I value the treat itself!

Cable is payed by parents, games are not approved by parents and some parents don't even allow paying like that for various reasons. Plus, all the problems that come with ANY kind of pay-to-play:
- what if I don't feel like playing the game for the next 2 months?
- what if I only play a few days a month?
- what if I don't need the content they are giving me?
I don't mind MMO's, that's another story. But RTS, FPS, RPG, leave them alone.
And, people, you have to understand one thing. Companies are not trying to be nice. They are pretending to be nice, while actually they are fooling with your brains trying to convince you that THEY are running out of money when they are not, and what they are actually doing is trying to justify their leeching of your money. And either you have so much money that you don't care, or you are just too dumb to realize that you are getting fooled into believing that Blizzard will go bankrupt if they don't make Diablo pay-to-play and continue to support it. Because, how can one support when a company steals his money, I don't understand.
Quote from "Snotspill" »
Yes, the problems dont cost, fixing them does.
The original $50 fee used to pay for that. What has changed? Games gotten better? Only worse. Companies gotten poorer? Richer, actually, a lot more people play games these days. Why do I have to pay extra when I didn't do that before?
In the end, we end up with ALL games being pay-to-play while they remain the same (if not worse) quality just because you people choose to accept it.
Quote from "Snotspill" »
Open your eyes mate, Blizzard is not doing games because you like them, they are making games to make money.
Isn't that what I am trying to tell you? Pay-to-play will not help you in any way, just feed Blizzard with your money.
Quote from "Snotspill" »
But business is business, and Blizzard today is very different from the days of original Diablo and Warcrafts.
I prefer to boycott companies of "business is business" type. And I'm not alone. It's called piracy. Piracy is the reply to low quality and overpricing. Where do you think it came from?

I apoligize, I thought you paid your own bills, and in that case, its your parents that are cheap if they won't spend 15 a month for a game you play all the time.. maybe get a job and pay for it yourself? - maybe then, you'll understand that 15 dollars per month is actually very little, and I'm not swimming in money as you believe all americans are... some people just know how to manage their money - but if you don't pay your own bills thats not your problem, thats your parents' problems, maybe go mow the lawn or wash their car once a month for them. Also, if you have no time for an MMO, don't pay for it. Most people play a few times a week, and if you don't have that time then you should stick to consols.
But just to get this clear - this is only for the topic of MMO's, because those take alot of maintenance. Now other types of games don't really need that type of maintenance so they won't charge a monthly fee. - Now, if you were saying this for other types of games, I see what you are saying, and companies agree, thats why theres no fee, but MMO's are completely different, and thats why they charge monthly, which isn't much considering its one of the cheapest guilty pleasures out there - refer back to the 20+ dollar visit the the movies one day of the month versus 14.99 for a whole month of unlimited play on an MMO.
maybe then, you'll understand that 15 dollars per month is actually very little,
Wasted money is little.

First of all, we are not talking about MMO's here. We are talking about a hack&slash. Second of all, I don't see what consoles have to do with this. They will become pay-per-month, too. Everything will if people will continue to pay.
I never even played a MMO properly (because I can't pay-per-month), so I have no idea how they go about, but I do play StarCraft.
Meh... so what There were tons of people who hated Diablo 2 mainly because it got rid of the big creep factor.
I have to admit that Diablo was far more darker than its sequel, and to some extent, did give me the creeps. Diablo 2 was just much more hack em up with almost no creep factor.
But the game was still good wasnt it?
I love Warcraft 1 & 2, I loved WC3. I loved SC and I loved Diablo 1 & 2. Hell I even love WoW. Blizzard has yet to dissapoint me and I expect no less with SC2 and Diablo 3
Than again this is all a matter of opinion, and personally I dont care what you think. If you think the game is going to suck... good for you  Don't buy it and go to some other forum that doesnt talk about Diablo 3...
Consol games are not pay-per month. Every play Final Fantasy? - You buy it, play it, done. - No patches, so no monthly fee.
What the hell is a EAD? Is that a workers permit? I apoligize if you aren't even old enough to work.
As I said before, Monthly fees on an MMO is great - but they are not needed on Non-MMO's like you are refering to - but if there IS a monthly fee, there will be some great servies to follow - and if this is your opinion, thats great - but please have better information to back up what you say and try not to flame anyone.

1) Wow has over 2400 employees JUST for customer support - and Blizzard would not have them if you don't help with a monthly fee - Diablo II had maybe 3 or 4 employees for customer service.
2) Blizzard may patch the game and fix things for free - But they do not create NEW content for free, this isn't just an item or 2, this is all out new areas. You may have forgot this one.
3) You are right on this one - Blizzard has a completely different team to make expansions - this is the team that makes an insane amount of content and charges you for it.
4) You may not know this - but the pretty much only reason you pay to play is for added service for MMO's - they need the extra help, and box sales alone doesn't make that very juicy for the company. - if there was No monthly fee for MMO's, there would be really slow patches, no new content (Until the Expansion team finishes their project) almost no in-game customer support - and other things.
But, you probably missed a few things - This is about MMO's, no wonder theres pay to play. As I said before, non-MMO's will not have pay to play - and if they do, either you don't play it and stop whining - or you can play it and enjoy the added benefits from the pennies per day you give them.
