i guess with them adding new content in the form of patches fairly often, yeh you think the max lvl would be higher.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
I think that Guild Wars maxing out at 20 and WoW maxing out at 60 created a challenge for pvp players. Diablo is a pvm/pvp game. If Diablo was just a pvp game...then having high levels would not be fair to those whom want to play the pvp game. Having a max level cap of 20 or 60 will make all people worthy of pvp. Having all pvp players on the game at level 20 will be a fair fight. Same with level 60. That is what I think, why Guild Wars and WoW made a lower level cap.

yeh, i think games whos basic function seems to be PvP rather than exploration and questing and other general RPG stuff, have lower max levels, while games that concertrate more on the RPG, have higher max levels.
take Diablo II and Baldur's Gate II for example, these games have huge RPG and questing aspects, thus you max out pretty much at the end of the emmensly huge game. Diablo at about 90 (max 99) Baldur's gate II at about 35 (max 40 (unmodded)).
while at first it appears i may have just proven myself wrong by mentioning a RPG game with a low max level, BGII, i dont beleive i have, EXp levels are spread out further, and monster offer less EXP.

there are lots of games that are MMO with a low maximum level. But I think that kinda defeats the purpose ad it means you have to be careful when placing skills
no less that 99, unless you sort of finish the game around say 75, then it would be ok to max out at 80 or maybe 85, i dont want to sit there for days trying to get to 99 just because i can, and i dont see it being higher than 150.

i really think it dpends a bit on game length. like i said earlier, if you finish your initail ru nthorugh at 70, i dont want to waste a lot of time trying to get to 99 just because i can, id rather it max out at 80 or maybe 90. unless there is a reason for getting a really high level, content that is only available if you are over lvl 90 or something.

thanks. it is a very valid point.
games like WOW and GW are rather short from what ive gathered hence their max level is lower, LOD is rather long, assuming you do all difficulties, otherwise i think you finsh around 45, well at least i do anyway.
finish norm at 45
night at 70
hell and 90
or thereabouts

I think it's hard to answer the question cause I don't know how the leveling up system might be different in Diablo 3. I can't imagine it will be too different that the leveling system would go above 99. I think the higher you allow it to go, however, the more you risk it having less substance.
Why not create an add-on which would enable you to reach lvl 150 ? (with new places, etc)
they might, who knows?
but first you must have a game to expand on or add on to.

i suppose, but leveling is what RPGs are known for, Diablo, WOW, and pretty much any computergame modelled on DND, hell even Fable and WCIII had leveling to some extend.
f you dont have leveling like the games mentioned above im not sure what you would use.
but with level in diablo after you have finshed the game once you can work out stuff like how many stats or skills you will have at what level, well roughly, there is a bit of ajusting for the acts/quests, but you get the general idea
Stats: (n-1)x5+15
Skills: (n-1)+12

One levelling system you missed out Elfen and that is significantly different is the Elder Scrolls levelling system.
Using certain skills and certain class skills until they increase in level. But I think that would make it too easy to become as strong a physically possible and to eaasy to max your skills in diablo. Just thought I'd add that
I reckon stick with the old system, it works, it is what we are used too and anything else would change the game too much.
i havent played ES in ages, that why i forgot about it.

It is understandable thoughbecause it is a lot harder to level up to 70 but still with the games massive environments and so on it should be 99.
