hmmm in some places agree, others not. i aggree there should be no item/stat/her/skill/wp editors, as it ruins the game. it would be nice though if there was somewhere where u can store your file on blizzard, so if something happened, you could make it all better.
bg rules!
yeh editors are fun when they are world editors

Something that Blizzard really did to impress me in Diablo 2, was by leaving the game very open to modding in a very user friendly manner. Because of this I was able to create the Diablo 2 mod "Hell Unleashed" ... An ambitious and enjoyable project that I completed last year with a lot of help from the modders at Phrozen Keep.
Blizzard also surpassed my expectations with the map editor they included with Warcraft 3. It was so powerful and yet so user friendly. I had even found myself dissappointed by Neverwinter Nights because their toolset was ridiculously complicated. If you wanted to create a campaign in NWN beyond a storyless hack n slash, you needed to learn how to script and it was very time consuming, and even features that should be simple enough were needlessly complicated, and this was a game hyped around its toolset... Yet blizzard was able to pull off a very powerful editor and keep it very user friendly to the point you could even manipulate the game play engine and create your own AI without any coding or scripting.
Not only do the make some of the greatest video games, but they seem to have a knack for making good editors or mod interfaces.
I am really hoping Blizzard takes the time to do something like this for Diablo 2 that would allow use to make our own maps and mod in an a powerful user friendly interface... If not though I really hope they leave Diablo 3 open for modding in a similar way to Diablo 2... The most fun I ever had with Diablo 2 was creating Hell Unleashed, and I'd love to do it again when Diablo 3 finally gets announced and released!
i have already suggested some kind of char/world editor in the master list of things we want in d3.

Yah, how can we be certain Blizzard will hear these suggestions? Assuming the developers don't check this web site "the may or may not, damn sneaky designers!" And I couldn't find any place to mail or email comments, feedback or suggestions too of Blizzards website.
I have a lot of faith in Blizzard and I really hope they don't pass the fans by when it comes to good suggestions... So far everything about Diablo 3 is rumord and speculations, but we all know that its only a matter of time, and I hope Blizzard doesn't forget about the modding community and what fans want to see.
The list is a really good idea, I looked over it and saw a lot of great suggestions, are you planning on forwarding this to Blizzard some how?
a while back i sent an email to blizzard with some of the ideas we had for d3, i got their standard lame email back.
here the email i got from Blizzard after i sent them the the master list (in its entirety at the time i sent it which was ages ago) to them

Which email address did you use anyway? Only ones I could find were support and hacks. It annoys me how game developers for large companies are so incredibly elusive and have absolutly no contact with the gaming community.

Welcome to diablo3.com!
I regret to say that I have not tried your mod. Usually I play SP though, so perhaps it's for the best.
They do read the mail, but if they were to reply to every mail they got, it would be a massive work. However when a good suggestion is sent you'd think they would take the time.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
Well Phrozen, HU isn't just multiplayer. I did make a solo eddition for those who perfer single player or don't have anyone to play with. Its the same, just easier, potions heal more, treasure drops are a bit better, town portals scrolls are back, you earn more experience and monsters HP and damage output is reduced.
Indeed playing the multiplayer version alone would be extremely difficult, as it rellies heavily on team play.
Maybe I'll try it then after I finish Requiem of Sorrow.
Anyway, to answer your question which I forgot earlier, a toolset would be wonderful, but it's not going to happen for D2, simply because right now there is no such thing, and it would require immense work on behalf of employees to make it, especially considering taht so few that actually did it are no longer there, so the new people would have to re-learn everything first.
Secondly, the Warcraft III editor, or so I heard, was used by the developers when they did the campaigns. As such, the world editor was an integral part of the game from the beginning, as apart from Diablo 2 where something mish-mashed would have to be scrambled together for a relatively small community.
However, I very much hope they will inlcude one for D3. Such a thing would be of great benefit to the fan-base, and wouldn't alienate mods so much from most fans.
