Uh... that's an interesting form of logic @same design but colour change. Have you had a chance to look at our gems? We have 19 levels of rubies, emeralds, etc all of the same design and only a colour change. Same design/colour change has nothing to do with a confusion in terms of game design, in this case. It would only carry the potential for being confusing if the item had exactly the same name, but did different things. Kind of like legacy items versus current seasonal items, of which can also be a reality; soon, we'll have multiple different kinds of legacy items with similar colours, design, but different effects. This is already a reality in Diablo 3, so perhaps you believe the game contains confusing game design currently, which would then allow for this item to be a possibility using your logic
Not sure how that's honestly 'confusing' since you can literally read it, read about it, look at the item and discern for yourself, but I guess different things confuse different people.
I'll reserve my thoughts about the legitimacy of this thread though
actually it would be nice if blizzard did this for jewelry. it would only make sense, they added gems to the game and are forcing us to use them only in jewelry (minus gem of ease) they could atleast add a way for us to make a good ring better.
I don't see why people really want this, since it will not really change a thing, and increase the gap between casual and hardcore players:
- There are 4 primaries on rings/amu. (Almost) everyone goes for the same affixes: mainstat, crit damage, crit chance, socket (some builds use CDR, but for those build everyone goes for the same stats as well). Being able to add a socket on them, will not make (for example) all res a wanted stat, it will get replaced with another wanted stat. At end gear, all it does is increase damage numbers (CDR builds need CDR anyway, they would gain a damage roll. Other builds go with attackspeed, average damage, whatever). You will not use this item on a bad ring.
- The item will be pretty rare. Else the can just give every ring/amu a default socket as a 5th primary. People complain about the ramaladni's gift being too rare already. If it only works on rings/amu, you will need at least 3, more if it works on all slots. This will give people that play a lot an even bigger advantage: they have the better items to start with, and get plenty of these in the long run. The casual player might only have 1 by the end of the season. All this to make the strong players even stronger.
- It will make it harder to get good rings (and maybe amulets), not easier. To have the perfect item, you will still need 3 correct rolls, the 4th you enchant and add a socket. So, while you will get more dps with a perfect item, they will need the same amount of correct rolls. Since (at least) 3 of the best rings (focus, restraint, convention of elements) come with a guaranteed socket, you will need 3 perfect rolls, roll off the socket to add a socket. Now think about how many perfect rings of those you had, where you wanted 1 additional stat. Even worse if it would work on other items, since set chest/pants come with guaranteed sockets as well.
I like the idea of an item adding a socket to the rings and ammy's.
Instead what I want however, is the ability to actually customize our gear to our liking. Drop rates are ridiculously stupid now, farming complete sets in little under 15 hours of gameplay, and near ancient sets in 30-40 hours of gameplay aside from 3-4 pieces. I think we need to lower drop rates substantially, give us back that HOLY SHIT feeling when a legendary item drops. Along with this, allow us to re-roll EVERY AFFIX on the item! But make the cost to do so extremely high. For instance, in order to unlock rolling 1 attribute on an item, you must pay 50m gold, and this increases to 100m, 150m, 200m, etc. Not sure I am fond of the gold idea, but if we all put our heads together we can think of something.
I get that the Dev crew wanted RNG to be the mainstay, but I think it is time to face the piper and understand that RNG is flat out terrible, things like Ramaldni's Gift give you huge amounts of power, yet you have some people Para 500 who have not seen one, and some people Para 100 who have 10-15 of them, that should never happen with an item so essential to max progression! Some extent of RNG is okay, like the stat rolls on the item, but at some point people need to realize that RNG is PICKING AND CHOOSING WHO IS SUCCESSFUL, not just playing ability!

Sorry to say but your post is absolutely full of idiotic statements:(
Nice too shoot down a post with just the argument "your post is absolutely full of idiotic statements"
Your post is only 1 idiotic statement. There, solved, this makes my post 100% valid again.
Please come with arguments WHY my statements are idiotic and show they are wrong. Show an item like this would actually benefit all player. With this I mean:
- Make a build viable that is currently not viable. 1 of my statements is it will only show higher numbers. People want build diversity. Having an extra 50%CD, 6%CC, whatever dps roll does not do anything apart from showing higher numbers. While higher numbers might seem fun, it doesn't really add/change something to the game itself.
- Unless it drops like crazy (and then my point is: just add the socket to the items as a default 5th primary), how does it benefit all players? Only players with a lot of hours or very good RNG will profit from this. Casual players will get even further behind of those. While it is not bad to have difference between players based on time played, it also doesn't give the high end players an advantage between eachother. It would only force them to farm items in that slot again.
- Since you will only use this on a close to perfect item (again, it is rare, you don't put a ramaladni on a non-ancient echoing fury, with at least 3 slots, this will be "3 times as rare" as a ramaladni), it makes it harder getting the perfect item, since a lot of BiS items come with socket.
So enlighten me about my idiotic statements, as I might be wrong, and really want to know what REAL advantage people get from this.

Not this age-old debate again...
The point of the socket in the ring is because jewelry is the biggest choice when it comes to special powers and added damage, since they can roll all of the percentile-based stats. The legendary gems are socketed there specifically to:
1. Make sockets in jewelry usefull. 280 of a stat in a ring was pointless and it was always a sad sight to see one. Now you generally want one, bar some builds.
2. Make you think: do I want 50% crit damage or a socket? Is there a gem for my build that could work? Do I want to lose out on 8% CDR?
3. They can only roll one socket. They want us to have a maximum number of legendary gems due to them being powerful. Using them in other slots would make the choices which gem to use less meaningful, since you can just use them in the other 8 available slots (including offhands for non-dual wielders that is)
Yes, it would be amazing to add a socket to a ring without the loss of other stats. It's just not going to happen due to the stat inflation percentile based stats give in the first place.
This is not a Debate, First and for most it should be clear it's a troll attempt and my comment was only pointing at how wonderful it would be. I'm not trying to force a comment from anyone on how they believe their logic on game design should trump blizzard's choice making our fans thoughtful wishes, thanks...

Yep. It will make it harder. as it adds another layer of RNG to what is already layers of RNG. I've come to your way of thinking that the original Ramaldinihs Gift was a bad idea -and making discipline a needed attribute for unhallowed essence was an even worse idea. It is so freaking hard to get a great weapon for this set, it drives me nuts. I've had an ancient kridershot and Etrayu ruined by the fact they had both a socket and low (9) discipline on them.
I'm now of the opinion that sockets should not even be a native part of any weapon; jewellery; or chest armour. Instead they should be taken out of the RNG equation entirely and we should be able to add them to any eligible item by paying lots of gold and/or using crafting materials. That would make the chance of getting good items easier, not harder, and also give us something to spend the crazy amount of gold most regular players have accumulated. Talk about inflation it's worse than in Greece. A million gold could probably not even buy me a loaf of bread the way it has been devalued in terms of quantity and what it can be used for..
just so you know, that wasn't a troll, those were ideas for the game. you are always so clever mate, I wonder if you can even understand what a troll is. Fordragon, seriously, think before you write, this forum is bored of your bullshit

Do you think we're stupid? Not even for one split second do I believe this to be legit.
For me (if something like this would be true) using the same art but different color would only make sense.
All gems (apart from diamond) give the same value, but for a different stat: 280 (max level) depending on the color. This item would give the same stat as a ramaladni's gift, depending on the slot you use it on: a socket.
However, even if they wanted to give us a "gift" to add a socket to rings/amu, I think they would just change the ramaladni to be useable on those slots. When ramaladni first was shown, it used to say something like "add sockets up to the maximum amount", indicating they at least thought about making it usable on all slots.
Sorry to say but your post is absolutely full of idiotic statements:(
No. it is very interesting. If you don't have anything to say, don't wast our time trolling.
Fact: All changes in game build only target improve dmg. There is no real "build option". It's DPS at large the main option. Even tanks/zdps have only one objective: enable dps to do more dmg (Try play a tank without some group buff degree).
Every time i read some post like this it is about some way to improve dmg. "Add a socket", ""reroll a stat", "Why don't I find my ancient X wep?"
D3 is 3 years old and I'm beginning to think it was better in Vanilla, with all its problems. Game balance was so better adjusted (Of course there were too many problems too! I'm no a fool). Legs need to seems like they are unique, not just a lost soul to be savaged. RNG is a good idea, but it must be improved, more intelligent. 2.0 was so luck at this, but today, its almost impossible to not find a leg (or more) in about 10min play in S6. "Ho, but, not every one play at S6!", you may say. But those ones who are not playing S6 yet, don't do it just because they don"t want to. Public games offers so many ways to enjoy high level game difficulties with help of friends. And even the most casual player will need only a few S6 rifts to gear up to stand S6 solo.
What I want to say is: it is easy to underestimate the drop and think how useles/usefull some items are when you has too many of them. Add a new one may just seems like ONE MORE. Diablo 3 is going the same way as WoW was some years ago, numbers, numbers and more numbers, and no real content at all. Someones have noticed it and argue about, but I don"t see Blizz giving answers to the problem. Seasons? Serious? With more legs to add numbers? Ok, they are cool! But where is the new scenario? Story improvement? Some idea about new chapter yet? Lets wait fot Blizz Con...
No thanks. It's nice that you were lucky but to people who get the wrong side of the RNG it's annoying enough already. In three seasons I never got the ancient weapon for my spec of choice. Id actually be fine with it, but Blizzard decided to implement leaderboards, so the RNG must be curtailed within some limits. Otherwise it's just completely useless playing seasons.
Playing this game is useless for anything else but fun Having a "reset" in a game that is build around collecting perfect items makes no sense. Having tiered drops (with the best items being harder to get) in a competition game makes no sense.
I know, because of the limited amount that I play these days, I will not make the leaderboard (maybe in party if I can "leech" of high dps playing a support build - no bashing on support build, IMO they are the hardest to play, but have to lowest gear requierment), while at the same time I don't get that "HOLY SHIT" feeling when another set piece drops. This is the reason I play less, it doesn't feel rewarding, the amount and "size" (most of the time less than 1%) of upgrades you get after 30-40 hours is so low, paragon (and thus time played) becomes more important than actual items.
While you are not changing the game by adding a stat to the item, you're not changing it either by not adding it.
- Having to put a socket on ring/amu lowers your sheet dps, but the gem more than compensates for this, resulting in more effective damage. In the end, you don't loose anything. Blizzard wants you to pick, else they could have kept the system they had in vanilla, where items rolled 4-6 primaries, not the (normal, some exceptions) fixed 4 primaries 2 secondaries.
- Adding a socket will only give you more damage. It's not going to change your build (unless you can show me a build that NEEDS 4 primaries+socket). Builds that need cooldown already stack it, builds that don't just stack damage on these items. While bigger numbers are fun, it's not mandatory or game changing.
- It will benefit "the best" and hurt "the weaker". While I agree players that play the most should have the best items in a grinding game, they will have to balance items around this "gift". For example: this patch, they added a default socket on focus/restraint that was not there in the past, same with the sunwuko amulet (maybe 2 patches ago, not sure). This is a "balance" to make those hard(er) to get items easier to roll correct. With this new "gift", rings/amulets with a socket will be worse if they have a socket, because you will have to roll the socket off again, needing the other 3 stats to be correct. So, they would have to remove the default socket again. But, this results in a "punishment" for people that don't have a "gift".
- It will add an extra layer of RNG to the game. With the leaderboard, they should minimize the layers of RNG, not adding more to it. The items will be either so rare that people complain about it, or so common they might as well add a 5th primary to every ring/amu, being the guaranteed socket. This is an item that would work in a game where items have "value", and people compair their gear. In a game where you throw away your items every 3 months (if it's not because you play season, it is because the change/introduce items and skills, forcing you into a new build) and a build in leaderboard, having a hard-to-get item should have no place.
I think the people that want this the most, are the more casual players, that think it will be easier to get good item. In reality, it gets harder: you need 3 rolls to be right, so you can reroll the 4th stat. However, you don't want a socket, giving you 1 less possible roll to get a good item. On top of that, you will have to find this "gift", to turn that perfect item into a usable item.
PS: I really don't care about the item myself, I would expect the droprate of an item like this to be the same (or higher since you need 3) as the ramaladni's gift, and I got plenty of those. I'm actually making these posts to prevent the more casual players (a lot of my friends only play a few hours per week) from being punished, as they (often) are the ones making posts about bad RNG, not the people that play a lot.
