I'm in general not in favor of any auto-pickup. Yeah, it's nice that we automatically pick up gold and potions now, but I honestly think that "pick that damn stuff up yourself" should be part of the game. It's just my opinion. It's nice and convenient, but from an RPG point of view it somehow feels wrong.

I kinda feel the same way. Some automation is ok, but I don't want to see it take over too much of the game.
I'm pretty sure blizz has already discussed this somewhere. But yes I agree they need too add it(as a option). so the ones who don't want too have it on don't. But lets be serious why wouldn't you have it on?
For me, they drop too often (not actually a complaint!!!!) and are too valuable to ignore, so I feel obliged to pick them up obviously.
I feel the fun part of crafting is the 'crafting' itself (literally finding the PLANS and clicking the craft button) and not the gathering so to speak..
For those 2-3 seconds as that bar is filling up, anything is possible..
On a side/semi-related note - I also completely agree with archonshope that having a 'wallet' type section of your inventory that essentially contains all your mats would be awesome, there are quite a few materials now and I'm finding Legendary crafting materials (or seeing them via chat) too so they are only going to continue to take up valuable space in our stash or inventories.
Since the crafting mats are BOA (if there are some that are not BOA please don't kill me I didn't actually look that up) then a combination of running over them and then having them whisked away to a section on your character sheet that is available if you want to see it and unobtrusive if you don't (picture how there is the button you can click that expands and shows more detailed stats, something like that) would be an amazing quality of life enhancement in my opinion.
The devs were discussing a new materials interface which would act like how gold and blood shards are now. If they go with that interface then I would love autopick up on these.

This.
To those asking "why would you not want auto-pickup":
1) Because of the RPG aspect. It's part of the RPG spirit to pick up and "earn" everything, nothing gets automatically shoved up your butt.
2) When I play Torment 6 I always want a close to maxed out stack of health potions. When I then switch to Torment 3, I don't need any health potions so eventually I pick up the 101st potion... and lose an inventory slot. It's just a very nit-picky example, I realize that, but I guess you get the idea. If there were ~10 things to be automatically picked up (all gems and all crafting materials, for example) it'd be so easy to clutter your inventory. Right now, I don't pick up anything besides white items (give them to those who still benefit from crafting), diamonds, and legendaries. I wouldn't like auto-pickup at the moment. If they implement then yes, please make it a currency. Otherwise: no.
If it were an option you could enable or disable on a whim then that seems to me like the happy medium.
You could turn it on if you need to top up your potions or gems/mats etc. IF you cbf or don't need any more of these right now then go into options and disable it.
Once the 'wallet' was implemented (if) then the option wouldn't be required anymore.

The technology is there because they have it for Gold and Potions.
Anyone agree that it would speed things up if we weren't stopping to click on all the mats that drop in game?
Even if it was a toggle-able option I don't see why this isn't already in the game..
I stack up my inventory for all my characters in a 5x2 grid that is; it would make my life easier for sure
