I have played Diablo 3 since the start, 1300hrs later. I have used the real money auction house as that is how Diablo was designed around an auction house both gold and real money. Both to profit blizzard and to reduce the people using third party sites for getting gear and gold. So how do people feel about spending real money and now having the auction house removed.
I know my self I feel sour, as now there is no opportunity to get something back over the next few years, it is now gone!!!!. I know some people would have spent thousands on this game and they must be really annoyed. Would any one have spent there real money if they knew they would close the real money auction house. NO you would not!!! You may buy some gold to purchase materials for crafting. So blizzard, makes the money, and the people that have spent the money, well there is no compensation, you just have to grin and bare it.
I think that the auction houses can exits in Diablo, for the people that want to use it.
Like make it only available after reaching one character to paragon 100. That way everyone starts self found for a very long time. And give self found bonuses to people, like extra magic find and movement speed, a permanent puzzle ring affect or even some cool looking wings or something to give people the incentive to stay self found. But be able to sell any unwanted gear for a real money profit or for gold to gear an auction house character.
Once you have top end gear is there really a point to having it? There is only so much farming you can do until you get tired of that, and when you do pick up another good item like one you already have, your just going to brimstone it, instead of sell it on the auction house.
I welcome the changes to the game and it will be sooooo much better to play from a self found point of view, like it should have been in the first place. And it takes balls to take the auction house out but at the same time it really burns the people that have put allot of time, effort and now money into a game. I do hope there can be a solution and people can come up with some good ideas, there is allot of talent at blizzard and i hope they can come up with something creative.
Totally agree with the things that you are saying,
there is definitely a way for blizzard to implement a way for the auction house to co-exist with a self found game.
I believe with the loot 2.0 patch coming in to affect soon there will be a large decline in the people that are using the auction house for every aspect of the game, which after all is the foreseen reason for the removal of the AH in the first place.
I also agree with how you are feeling sour towards the decision. as no-one would have willingly spent real world hard earned money to play a game if they had known that the opportunity to recoup some of there hard earned dollars was going to be taken away
having said all of that i also feel it is appropriate to take our hats off to josh for making the hard call. And i Hope it makes the game better for all of the community not just the die hard self found players but for the entire diverse community.
There is always going to be people that disagree one way or another in any situation. but on this topic i strongly believe that the Auction House can work with having different game modes. and the whole community can benefit not just AH Heroes or SF heroes
there can be balance not to mention the safe passage of trading for everyone.
And totally agree with you about incentive to play the more incentives to keep playing the game the better not just to keep people playing but to make the game so that it keeps drawing a crowd and continuing to grow the Diablo 3 community.
@Franna403 and @ApostleD3, what makes you say that "no one would have spent real money if they new the RMAH was being removed"?
I know people who spent real money and they welcome the change. I even know one person who is thinking of putting real money in now to get some more gold/crafting mats/gems/leveling equip/... and gain an edge when RoS hits.
Agree with most other points, but the fact that they take the AH away actually means that if you make use of it now, you gain an edge over everyone who joins after March 18 as they can't do the same.

Edge ? With the expansion, there will certainly be some sort of reset. New crafting materials will be introduced which makes all the old ones lose value fast, and new gear will drop that will make the old gear obsolete. I think it will be much like when a expansion hits in WoW. I dont think that a single lvl 60 item will be any use for people at lvl 70 ( or whatever the new lvl cap will be ).
I dont think that anything we do ( except paragon leveling ) will have much of a impact the day after the expansion is released. Blizz wants us to go back to start again with a more or less self found game experience, so they will have to do something that people start more or less from scratch.
To answer your question I think the best way to explain it is to say,
Its in my opinion that if someone who had spent Real Money on a character or several characters over there time playing Diablo 3 Had a Crystal ball and knew that the Auction Houses were going to be removed, Do you think there is a very real possibility that people spending money to aquire items that will eventually end up meaningless and to an extent Worthless in a long term play, May have approached it differently.
I myself have multiple characters that i have either bought gold to get certain items or used real money to aquire them, to create a build for my play style and to make the game as much fun as it can be for me.
And by saying this i can already hear people saying well you should adapt your play style and create new builds, But isnt it my right to play the game how i want to after all i payed exactly the same amount of money for the game as you did.
The Point of all of this is not my opinion is right or wrong because after all everyone is entitled to there opinion and really doesnt matter at the end of the day Blizzard are going to do what they think is right, but That does not mean that the community cant voice their opinion whether for or against.
And i will say again hats off to josh for making the tough call. But making a well rounded game that caters to all players is always going to be controversial and that is always going to be the constant on the forums DO I agree with whats happening not entirely sure, do i think that blizzard have donr the right thing here.
For the game Yes entirely.
By the people who have used real money No i think that they could have respectively left a way to get something out of the game considering what some people have put in.
Agree or Disagree It doesnt matter, End of the day Blizzard hold rights to the game so they can do what they think is best.
Yes, sure, people will spend some small abounts of money, to get crafting materials and the items you talk of but there are allot of people that have invested hundreds of $ and I bet they are regretting doing that now.
Good point though, Blizzard seems to be lining things up for a rest to all gear, any level 63 gear will be useless at 70, Just for fun using D3UP Calculator, i had a 400k wiz and i changed the 1209 dps conquest sword i had to the same stats as the gear posted in one of the Diablo Fans screen shots of a level 70 weapon. Turned the 400k into just over 800k dps and that is just changing one item. So what is it going to be like when you have all level 70 Gear. So yes Twoflower you are right, all level 63 gear is useless even if you re-roll a main stat with enchanting, they will still suck compared to level 70 Gear.
