Last night, I made my first serious attempt on Act 2 Inferno. Up until this point I've mainly been farming Skeleton king in groups, and farming gold to buy upgrades on the AH. A while ago when I was grossly undergeared, I tried some of Act 2 and got 1 shot through force armor and figured it would be impossible. Anyways, I was able to get 5 stacks of NV from rares and champs and defeat Mahgda. I skipped packs that I wanted nothing to do with, specifically some rare bugs with Illusionist, Mortar, Jailer, and... like it matters after that. Every fight (I participated in) was engaging and challenging, but definitely possible. The most fun and exhilarating fight was a group of fallen elites with Waller, Mortar, Electrified, and Knockback.
Anyways, here is what I took away from the night. As most of my AH gear is likely from Act 2-4 Inferno (hard to say without item levels). It seems like the gear requirement for Act 2 is greater than someone could obtain from Act 1. The other thing that stuck out was 80% of the drops from elites, champs, and ultimately Mahgda, were below level 59, which is just frustrating. Inadequate loot from previous difficulties could at least be salvaged into level-relevant materials. So after 3 to 10 minutes of fighting a rare pack, the reward could end up not even being worth the time.
I understand that Diablo is all about the randomized loot, but it would be nice if the lame drops would at least salvage into materials that would make the fight worth your time.
everyones experience i've talked to so far has been pretty much the same:
farm act 1
'wow this isnt that hard at all... why is everyone complaining? this is actually easy... this is kinda fun, ok its been ten hours killing butcher - lets try act two!'
*welcome to the shitty desert levels part cinematic where everything burrows and is Fast*
'ok let me get some potions, lets repair, DEing some crap item from act 1 from hours of 5stack farming only to get a 318dps legendary, very cool... ok here we go!'
ONE SHOTTED BY A WHITE OUT OF THE GATE SO HARD MY BODY EXPLODED INTO CHUNKS.
hmmm maybe i stood in the fire or something.... *respawn*
ONE SHOTTED AGAIN HOLY SHIAT EVEN WORSE THAT TIME BY LITTLE GREEN BEES ARE U SERIOUS. WHAT KIND OF BEES ARE THOSE?!
then one of two things happen:
1) uninstall ->forums to bitch
2) Auction House 3 for ten hours
really the Auction House 3 portion of the game is the 'srs biz' check. you either want to deal with that or you don't. it is where blizz alienated everyone they're going to alienate. i personally love trading so i have no problem at all camping the AH for sillies putting great deals up. i could see if you didn't like that though, that farming for DAYS for your own upgrades would burn you out. Each act so far feels fine to me in Inferno, at least for softcore mode. Hard at first, but once you cheese it with AH-bought gear and a lil bit of gold farming, they're totally do-able.
I really have no problem with using the AH, but if the content is tuned around it, then they really didn't design a good game... they designed a good economy.
inferno belial kill: 9 items, 2 had lvl 60 requirement...nuff' said
i know... its beat city, but ive also gotten legendary/good set item from random minions. random drops be random.
but for players looking to advance into / thru act 2 - just find ways to quickly farm gold. use goldfind gear if you have to (srsly) - sell everything over 1kg, dont DE for mats even level 60 stuff if you don't plan on using the mats to randomroll gear to sell or if you don't like selling in general. who knows when the comm AH will be up and stable. if you want to progress now, farm gold gold gold. goto the AH and buy some upgrayddz and you'll find the later inferno acts much, much easier. even just a great weapon upgrade and like two +60 all resists items will give u a noticeable improvement.
keep playing! don't give up! unless you don't like the game then i suppose you can give up =P

yeah. there is a RLAH. obviously they designed the game around us using it. Just like they design wow around the monthly fee and now the vanity item shop- everything takes forever and the expensive stuff looks pretteh. its not a wild conspiracy, its a bidnass.
Sadly I've had a hard time just farming Act 1. I watch range classes and while I see them die their fair share, it looks fun and dodging attacks is a show of finesse and skill. I, however, decided to choose Barbarian as my first character. As I do love him, he was a powerhouse all through the game until the end of hell, but now he strides in and dies.
I feel the gear needed to survive as a melee is a bit out of hand compared to our ranged brethren. Melee can't really kite, if we try then we aren't doing damage. So it becomes some kind of odd dance where we have to move in, strike once or twice, run out if a big hit is coming (like those blasted mobs with the huge clubs that can one shot you when they do a power hit) and use whatever ranged abilities we have slotted with our meager resources. I think I might be okay with this if I didn't feel like moving in for that one or two swings was going to get me killed.
I guess I just don't feel right constantly running from a fight. I feel like I should be able to go in and take a few hits while dishing out my own. With proper use of stuns or knock back when I see a hit coming I could survive and that is where the skill would come in. But as it stands, while those big hits wreck my day as they should, it's the standard melee hits are what ends up whittling me away anyway. A pack of fast movers can swarm me and within a few hits I'm dead.
I've got friends constantly giving me gear. I've been using a calculator to help me find the best survival gear (and today I see the barb spreadsheet I can try), and I've even reluctantly gone to the AH to find some new upgrades (I usually prefer to find my gear, I find it fun), but what I find often tends to be worse than what I have or too expensive to get right now.
I think I need to re-roll and see how the other half lives, the grass might only look greener, but I won't know for sure until I try.
Sorry, guess I had to borrow your soapbox, would you like it back?
Inferno Act 2 is miserable. The number of creatures who cannot be attacked (either go invisible, jump thru the air, etc) and then can 1 shot you, without any ability to counter that move is retarded.
Yeah, I am not a fan of the snakes. I end up just peppering in the mirror image button between piercing orbs, hoping my mirrors will freeze them so I can get some hits off. BTW this is my build http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/wizard#bRYXOP!dfV!bbZaYc
For those of you who don't know Mirror Mimics can cast a freezing frost nova if you have it on your bar, I love that shiz.
