When you start getting Socketed Rings/Necklaces though, just trash them for now. I guess you need the Jewelcrafter for socketed jewelry to be worth anything since the best you can get atm is +6 Str/Dex/Int/Vit (one of those). They're amazing in weapons though when you can add Rubies with +2-4 damage.
Just another socket question: Can you clear a socket? For example i put a chipped ruby in a weapon, can i remove that gem when i get a flawed or normal ruby for example?

Sockets seem to be one of magical affixes rather than 'free bonus' feature to item, that's why there is no grey items this time around, and perhaps why they seem much rarer than in DII. I crafted a headpiece that was supposed to be with 4 affixes, got only 3 and a socket.
