Originally there was an option to make your game "invite only" but that seems to have been removed in patch 16 or 17 i think...I guess they support coop so strongly they decided to remove that option.
Are you serious? You can't do it on a per-game basis? Pfft...Seriously, where did they find the people that designed the UI for this game?
Agreed. This is some seriously awful design. :/ Sometimes I just want to play alone, but I don't want to have to be "that guy" that never lets anyone join my games. meh.

...and if you disagree with me, you're probably <insert random ad hominem attack here>.
great. now i can be hounded by my friends. they need an invisible option like on instant messengers
If you set "allow quick join" to off, and set yourself to away or busy, you will be pretty invisible. If they mouseover your name and see you are in game and actively gaining lvls or switching chars, they can probably put 2 and 2 together though
I have no idea why they got rid of the pop up in game that used to exist with 3 options "private" "Friends Only" and "Public"
You could switch while in game. The only restriction is if you went public you couldn't make it un public after.
That along with the skill UI makes absolutely no sense why it was changed.

This option is in the beta. Unfortunately, it's hidden away in one of the option menus, forget which one though.
It says something like "Allow friends to quick join your games" and you can toggle it on/off.
EDIT: Just checked, it's in the "Social" tab, right above Mature language filter.
Ha. Bagstone.

Ha.
You can't please everyone all the time. It seems you just might have to tell people you want to progress alone for a while. Oh no.
