Hello..i have been playing for awile im about paragon 650, and it seems like after 50 there are dimishing returns on the 2 stats that go beyond. I realize on the main stat you can replace the gems on gear to diamonds and assumingly get better return on the paragon. So my question is that is there a point in pushing the paragon main stat that the returns get better. If im missing something could someone point me in the right direction.
tl;dr: Yes, there is DR, but its effect is too small to make a difference for players that hoard them.
You're absolutely right, there is a diminishing return mechanic on the mainstat. But actually, Paragon points are kinda infinite, so even though they have lesser and lesser effect the more you have of your mainstat, if you have like 50000 mainstat, despite DR you're dealing insane dmg. there are players out there with over 10000 Paragon. It's crazy.
Sadly, the meta is to get as many Paragon as you possibly can and then push rifts before season end
Really hope that for D4 we will have none of that "infinite leveling" or that if it's still there in some sense the effects of leveling up will be miniscule after a certain point. Right now with D3 no casual/semi-hardcore gamers can keep up with those playing 16 hours per day (make that 24 actually, there is plenty of account-sharing going around). Really miss being able to actually complete a character like in D2. Replayability could be ensured via other avenues than simple endless power creep. People play D2 over 20 years later for good reasons.

that's why it wouldve been the best even with the infinite benefit of paragonleveling to cut mainstat gain from 5 to 1 after paragon 800.
easy solution while keeping the grind on...
but it's hopeless at this point. +5 for each level is ridiculous.
the augmenting helped a bit, even though it's also not the most interesting thing they've implemented it at least helps dedicated players to at least keep up to a certain degree and close the gap a bit.

I agree, it's too much. It'd probably be better to just not hand out any additional points at all for Paragon levels. Even if they did only +1 we'd still see people grinding to Paragon 10,000 just for that extra power. It's absolutely unnecessary. They could perhaps keep the Paragon system for cosmetic rewards/bragging rights only but with no additional power gains. Again, there are (many) other ways to ensure replayability while at the same time not leaving casual/semi-hardcore players lagging behind. Infinite leveling really takes the fun right out of the game for those who can't play 24/7/365.

Oh ffs these threads are absolutely riidiculous now, theres no problem with D3, theres no problem with Paragon, theres no problem with devs.
The problem with D3 is the completely deluded section of the playerbase that cant accept theyre not good enough to occupy a position as one of the top players in the region, grow the fuck up and show some godamn maturity. If youre not on the leaderboard now, you are most certainly not going to be on the leaderboard if Paragon was either removed or changed.
Well there you go, turns out there might be a problem with D3 afterall. Remove leaderboards and those idiots that cant understand they dont have a divine right to be on them dont have a reason to bitch and whine about anything and everything else.

I mean, this is just wrong. Like... It's not an opinion it's a fact that to get high on the leaderboard you have to grind Paragon because it makes you hit harder and take less damage. I'm not saying skill isn't also relevant, but no matter how skilled the player a paragon 10, 000 player will be higher than a paragon 1000 and it certainly does make the game less interesting when you outright know you wont be able to compete if you don't play 16hrs/day.

And there we go
Thanks for making my point perfectly, how the hell do you even think your example player is competative for a leaderboard place if theyre playing considerably less than others? Youre own example of commiting less time investment makes them less skilled and less experienced than the competetion. Just another also ran thats copied someone elses spec and expects to be able produce the exact same result as a considerably more invested player. Its genius levels of stupidity.
Get a damn grip of yourself - those leaderboards youre aspiring to are a complete nonsense and totally meaningless, every single player listed completed an entirely different rift to the others and often spend more time fishing for the perfect layout than your example player is prepared to play in a week.
DIABLO IS NOT DESIGNED TO PROVIDE A LEVEL PLAYING FIELD SO BY DESIGN IS NOT A COMPETATIVE GAME.
I honestly cannot believe there are players that need more than 8 years to work that out.
