Just got into the beta with the recent wave and wanted to ask you lovely folk if anyone knows Blizz's issues/concerns/procedures for account use. Specifically - I have a brother in LA that I'm more than happy to extend the use of my account to play D3 while I'm working - BUT - I'm concerned that Blizz might be doing some sort of IP address tracking and see that its coming from two different places and get all pissy.
I have heared they have added the standard battle.net authentication security, which includes that (tracking IP for sharing accounts) However I am not sure if they have taken any direct actions on said accounts, ill see if I can found out.
I once logged in to my WoW account from another country and there was some sort of a warning or something, stating that my account was possibly compromised. I don't really remember the details. In short: I don't think you will have any real problems, but they seem to be tracking IPs.
It is against blizzard policies to share accounts.
However with that being said, there isn't a lot they can do to prove someone logging into an account is not you.
They may speculate based on Geo-IP information, and it would be a bold move to ban you based solely on this.
I have an authenticator tied to my account, and I once had my account locked while I was in Mexico because they noticed the extreme difference in my IP. All I had to do was reset my password and everything was back to normal.
Blizzard can track your IP usage, but it would have to be brought to their attention or have some really fishy behavior. The extreme case was the ban-hammer given by Blizzard to some people who were account sharing to get gladiator in WoW, but that was after people were sending reports to GMs in efforts to get them banned.
It's against blizzards policy to share accounts if your intent is to like, fuck them over or use it against them. Like, if you play WoW for 12 hours, then go to sleep, and your friend wakes up, and plays for 12 hours, then sleeps, and repeat, thats what they dont want.
If you log on to an account at your house and your friend plays, they aren't concerned. They will probably promote playing 24/7 once Real Money Auction House comes out, so they can make as much money as possible off you selling items.

You are allowed to have any blizzard game you own on as many computers as you want. What matter is the account that you log in under. One account can only be logged into one Blizzard game at a time.( I have heard of people having multiple accounts under a single Battle.net account. I'm not sure how that works or if I am stating it wrong but it can be done).
If someone else wants to play on a Blizzard tittle but NOT with your credentials then they must purchase rights to that tittle. Buying the gamein a box version and or through a digital download gives you that right. I believe with WoW as an example you need to purchase the right to the exspansions(not all) in order to ply the most current version.
What I am trying to say is Blizz doesn't want anyone but you using YOUR account but you can use your acount on any computer that has Blizz software where accounts are applicable. You won't have UI and other stuff on thoes computers. I'm not sure what info Blizz stores on thier servers besides character data.
