Recently it has been brought to my attention that D3 is going to be released on the Xbox 360 and PS3. Why would blizzard make a change to a golden chain of top notch computer games? Not trying to QQ just curious as a diablo fan from the beginning. Can anybody shed some light on why blizzard made this choice and what we can see from diablo 3 Xbox360 and PS3 versions.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm fairly certain Diablo was on the Playstation. On top of that Starcraft was on the N64. Diablo has a very simple control scheme (mouse and a few buttons) that could be easily adapted to a gamepad. Consoles also pull in more money for AAA games I'm pretty sure. I see few reasons not to and it will probably end up helping us PC gamers because the game will garner more attention and hopefully that will encourage more updates etc.
Yeah this whole assumption/presumption/misremembering is getting way on my nerves.
Diablo was on the PSX.
Warcraft II was on the PSX.
Starcraft was on the N64.
Also fyi, Blizzard started out making console ports and games like Rock N' Roll Racing and The Lost Vikings.
Blizzard has its roots in the console market, despite being "the great white savior of PC gaming" or w/e the hell we've decided to label them.
Regardless... Moving into the console market, or at least moving into multiple markets, has always been a great dream of theirs. Why wouldn't it be? Consoles are where the money are, and Blizzard, above and before all else, is a business. Why wouldn't they want to go where the money is? From a purely economic standpoint, the decision is beyond solid.
However... can I see a lot of the dumbing down that's going on (*cough simplified tooltip bullshit*) being a direct result of consolitis?
Hell yes I can.
Harison's right, Blizzard themselves are still researching the possibilities. IF it makes an appearence on consoles, it will likely be the next generation of consoles. The question then remains, will it be (all be it a well thought out and incredible implementation of) a direct port, or wether they'll take the seperate parts they have of Diablo 3, and mold them into a new game more suited for consoles.
The consoles I would like to see Diablo on are Vita and/or 3DS. Portable version of the game would allow all Diablo addicts to get their daily fix wherever they were without the need of an internet connection.
Both of the machines have touch control as well, which would be very usefull for a game like Diablo.
I would ask Blizzard to put it on the Vita, of all portable devices. The DS/3DS isn't all that powerful of a machine to run it. But imagine playing Diablo on the Wii or Wii U? That would be interesting.

1) Its not being worked on yet
2) It may not even be D3 (my guess is it wont be)
3) They have no idea what systems it will be for.
