I am by no means a hardcore player, but all of my playing (up to this point) has been solo. One day I will try grouping and probably love it, but for now it has all been what can I achieve alone? Yesterday I got 2 primals to drop within 15 minutes of each other, on the regular rift clears (which blew my mind) on T11. One of them was the Eun-Jang-Do, and let me just settle the argument between Thunderfury and Eun-Jang-Do for solo GRifting - it is EJD all day long. I kept reading about how Thunderfury helped clear it all faster, and the lightning proc this and that, but there is just no comparison between a little trash help along the way and not having to worry about any attacks for the last 20% of the RGs. I actually laughed my way through the Guardian fights for my first 82 and 83 clears because my follower's weapon proc kept the boss frozen after 20% health. I made myself stop and just watch him frozen for a good 10 seconds and smile.
So for those solo artists out there looking for a very very nice bump in GRift leveling, trust me, it's Eun-Jang-Do. I had a gorgeous ancient Thunderfury paired with an ancient Wyrdward and...if you can't get through the trash to get to the RG in time by the end of your rift, then you aren't beating him in time either, so go with EJD and laugh with me.
What? There is no BiS follower weapon. Depending on build and class, a lot of people have more issues with the Grift clear than the RG. Rathma Necro? RG is easy, clearing the trash isn't really that hard either, but it's much more dangerous than the RG. However, I will point out that RG kills at 90 average at about 10-15 seconds. It takes 8-10 minutes to clear to the RG though. So where does the importance lie?
I'll also point out that there are different builds for followers, like The Tormentor and Overwhelming Desire vs. Sultan of the Blinding Sand and Ess of Johan for the Enchantress. There's even a RG killing Templar build that focuses more on Bul-Katho's Wedding Band and elite damage affix. Saying a chance to freeze at 20% isn't always "the best" option would be an understatement.
what's BiS and even mandatory is "your follower won't die" relics, an Oculus Ring and Unity (if you're wearing a Unity, too).
All stats of those Items are neglectable. I would also argue that Thunderfury is the best for the Slow effect (probably I would advice Ess of Johan for the Necklace spot, too), but yeah in the end it doesnt make any difference at all really. Can even leave those slots empty, the impact it actually has is close to zero...
Thunderfury can attack pretty fast and since damage really isn't a priority to me, pairing with Wyrdward makes the Templar incredibly useful most of the time in my opinion. Any other combos I find don't proc enough to be useful with elites or large groups since they all mostly require single targets.
This is practically a life saver in high GRs, and while the Eun-Jang-Do can freeze for a longer period, Thunderfury's proc rate makes it more useful to classes which damage mobs way beyond it's 20% proc rate requirement.
