you can see that salvaging blue items does not give any common scrap (the stuff you got from salvaging white items). I think this means that crafting and artisan leveling will not require common scrap, since we have no way of obtaining it.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I used to shoot people in the knee with arrows, then I took an arrow to the knee.

Oh, right. I was thinking that was an older screenshot for some reason. I guess they may have just taken them out? I don't know pretty odd. I personally found it pretty taxing saving up tons of common scrap to make like 3-4 items.
I thought there were already grey junk items. Are they no longer in game then?
Does this mean there are no longer white salvage material in game anymore, just blue, yellow and gold.
Well, I hope this is true, because many of the beta videos I've seen stashes and inventories cluttered with white mats. Later you need about 40 or 50 mats to craft, which means more clutter late game. This change to me means more space in your inventory. Since you will no longer pick up whites, and if white mats are gone, it saves up space.
And I wonder, later you would probably only pickup a few white items, salvage the crap out of it, and then leave them untill you use them. I wouldn't know, none of us really have any idea how the game played on high levels, so this change was possibly good.

Or may not be in the game anymore.
We'll see as soon as patch 10 is up and running.
Yeah, but that screen shot shows you getting no common scraps from blue items.
