It's a shame blizzard removed runewords. They would work perfectly well in game
All they have to do is rename current runes to something like 'glyph' or 'seal' or 'quintessense' etc
runewords added items to that game to for characters
in the ideal game for every character there are items which would suit it. diablo 2 lacked this, with almost all the uniques useless. Runewords helped counter this.
And they could bechanged to function in stead like this:
Each runeword contains only one rune, but you can fill up the sockets before the rune with jewels. To make a runeword in an item with 4 sockets, for example, you need to insert 3 jewels + 1 rune.
I think they want to make Uniques and Set Items NOT useless, cause truth be told runewords were way too overpowered and they were just another means to make a higher tier of items without adds more legendarys/sets. They were just a another crafting tool which D2 technically really didn't have, and D3 which has a true crafting system. In D2 you were essentially farming runewords to socket(aka craft)your item, just like you would farm crafting materials to make a an item in D3, but with D3 you have a much better chance at making said item with less grinding. In other words Runes=Crafting Materials basically but now you don't have to grind as much.

It's an unnecessary category of items. Magical items can be VERY good. Rare items will be among the BEST in the game. Set items are necessary and really fun to have in the game. Obviously item sets will have a ton of application. Legendary items receive the most attention because of their overall epicness, I've always been most excited to find uniques/legendaries personally. Also, in D3 these items have a ton of random stats - anywhere from 1 variable to over 4 I believe - and this makes for a huge variance in legendary item quality. I think we have all our bases covered for items and Blizzard is doing an amazing thing with runes in skills. I'm getting nerd chills just thinking about it!!! :]
but the runeword system only sucked because they were designed OP. Enigma/CoH were mistakes doubt
if you look at mods like MedianX however, they have been integrated to fill in the 'gaps' in gear choices. The uniques arestill better than runewords
And uniques> runewords if the game designers wanted to
Rune words were underpowered compared to the chance to get one in legit way.
It's not rune words but bots and dupes(especially dupes) that ruined this system.
Is it overpowered when millions of people play some lottery and and they have miserable chance to win 1,000,000 $?
I guess no.
The same applies to rune words .If blizzard didn't fail in the fight against duping(thou i don't think they tried hard) max few people (and in most cases none) would have have those powerful items close to the end of ladder season.
Its especially true in the pre patch 1.12 versions of game ,before blizzard increased the rune drop rate.
(I had a time when i was running 3 bots 24/7 and i only got 1 ber and 1 jah rune that way over 1 year)
So ,yes i miss them .if dupes, bots will be fixed rune words is a nice end game goal!
I never liked Runewords. I think that some (LoD ones in particular) were far to overpowered and hurt the game. Crafted items are the same type of concept as runwords. Regardless, the best items should be found, not created IMO.
Nope. Runewords took up too much valuable space in inventory, and are easily replaced with better magic/unique items with a larger number of random properties.
Anyway it only benefited those who had already made it to Hell, and to a very lesser extent Nightmare.
They are the 4 "runes" from LoL, I assumed you had taken the other 3 from there. Otherwise, it's a major coincidence that you choose exactly those 3 names.
I think once we're all using the crafting system and are getting decent items and really getting involved trading them on he auction houses, we'll forget all about runewords. We'll also all be very glad that there aren't absolutely balance destroying items popping up everywhere. And since Blizzard is wanting us to have variety in our builds, I don't think every single player having the Templar with the equivelent of Infinity or what have you makes any sense at all.
I think they have learned their lessons and the new system will be better, not perfect mind you, but better.
