So, there are a ton of guides out there that say "For this item, this is your stat priority" and they have 4 stats that are in order of 1-4. What does this mean, or can someone guide me to a location on the site that explains this? Thanks!
It means that you look at the stats you have on an item, and if one is missing, you re-roll one of the other stats to get as close to the desired stats as possible. Here are two examples:
Amulet
For amulets, the stat priority is almost always the same, regardless of build: 1) Socket 2) CHD 3) CHC 4) elemental damage. However, most amulets have a fixed main stat roll; usually, the amulet you find looks like this: main stat, socket, CHC, and armor. Now you know that socket and CHC are among the top 4, and main stat and armor are not. You want to re-roll one of those (obviously the armor as it's far worse than main stat), and you want to re-roll it into the highest affix from this top 4 list - which is CHD.
Shoulders
Let's assume your shoulder stat priority is main stat, vitality, all resist, and cooldown. Now, you get shoulders that are ancient, but have main stat, vitality, life%, and armor. You probably want to roll off armor (if all resist is among the desired stats, you're probably not playing WD/wizard), preferably into all resist. Obviously check if there's a single resist, which will prevent you from re-rolling the armor into all resist (in that case you roll for CDR). Otherwise you re-roll the armor into all resist.
man, this is exactly the explanation I was looking for! Thanks, Bagstone! I appreciate the breakdown and assumed that's what the numbers meant but wasn't sure if I was missing something.
