First I wanna start off with some polls, would be nice if everyone answered them so we could have an idea of what's on people's mind!
Now, as a fellow pvp'er in WoW, I'm really looking foward to Diablo 3 Arena. I Jizzed when they announced it.
I would like to manage this topic so we could discuss what we know about arena so far.
I would like to hear opinions about the health globes in arena. From the videos we've seen so far, they make a huge difference and can mean life or death in many cases. We know that blizzard plans on getting one mobility skill for every class but are they all going to have the same range/cooldown? If not, isn't this already an issues when fighting in arena, since the lowest cooldown/highest range should have easier control over the runes? Do we really want such a system in arena?
We also know they don't have huge plans as to make arena extremely balanced, what do you think about that? Would you have interest in having a very balanced, managed and competitive arena experience to the point where the rewards gotten from good performance deserve ''respect?''
Last thing, if you played WoW or Bloodline champions arena, what elements from it do you think could be implemented in D3 Arena to make it better? and what should be avoided?
this is an oarpg, not an mmorpg :], therefore balance isn't crucial and i hope people who experience wow issues then see d3 "balance" issues, don't whine horrifically, since D3 will be very imbalanced in some regards. All in all, i just hope nobody compares this PvP system to WoW's. Darkspore (if anyone has played it) is of the same genre as D3 and it's pvp arena system is suspiciously similar to D3's but heck, that works nicely.
Same opinion here, different type of game! What I actualyl think is, if we can make that many skill/gear combinations, it's impossible that you can't find at least 3 - 5 really strong builds per class for pvp. And every build should have weak and strong points, that's how things work in the world!
Personally I'd prefer people be responsive and react to get to a health globe when it appears appears as opposed to now you know where and when it'll drop and can sort of just hover around that area.

BUT wouldn't that be worst? I mean, you are getting outplayed, running for your life, no skills left, your opponent is gonna get a kill in 3 secs. then BAAAM you run into health globe.
Random locations don't seem so interesting to me. I mean, if you know where they will spawn you can at least think about what you're gonna do to get the health globe before your opponent gets it.
Health globe spawn camping sounds kind of gay, but we will see how it plays out,
I would like if there was an option before you start the arena to have health globes on or off.
Off is more like a gladatorial fight, if you die you die, none of this, well I was losing but i picked up a health globe crap, that makes almost 75% of the strategy revolve around who can get the health globe next.
So I would like to see an option to play with, or without them.

this could work I guess! Hadn't thought about it. But would there be different reward or ratings for each mode?
Cause without them it would surely be more difficult to play, you would need much more care with every decision.
Constant placement and constant timing are good for exactly the reasons bliz said: It's not random, so you can plan for it, and it gives you incentive to move in when the globes are coming and move elsewhere otherwise ('cause it's not a great place to fight). It creates rising tension levels right before each globe timer goes off, and releases it once they've been claimed.
I like the concept of health globes in the arena and agree with it's current design. You have to think about it in terms of "what's going to make for more interesting gameplay". If there is no way to heal effectively, then people will not take risks and play very defensively. Having to dance and kite around the arena until someone makes a mistake is not fun gameplay. The fact that the Health Globes also spawn in the same location forces players to compete for a resource as opposed to just running back to your respective sides. Also, having them on a fixed timer will actually take experience to mentally time when they will respawn.
Camping won't be possible for health globes. Watch any vid and you can see Nybody gets owned if they stand still for only a few seconds. At first I wasn't happy with the globe system but the more I think about it the more I like the idea.

I just hope we see more pvp type effects used in PvP so far haven't seen it in the videos. Stunning or fearing someone before you they can get to the orb seems like it should be a part of pvp.

What makes you think the arena will have some form of reward? They stated at BlizzCon that its purpose is for fun and you won't be getting any rewards for it.
The arena is not something that will be a huge focus for them unless they find that people are using it a lot, in which case they'll probably spend more time honing it. Blizzard does listen to their players and if enough of us say "Hey, the arena is pretty unbalanced. Fuck Meteor.", then they'll be forced to react to that. But only if a lot of us end up playing it. I don't see the arena being a huge deal if there is no reward for it though.
Besides, Diablo has always been about PvE, and thankfully, it will stay that way.
EDIT:
On health globes, no. Don't put them in. It encourages camping, and it isn't fair if you happen to just get lucky by being there at the right time.

What I meant was titles and stuff like that, which has already been confirmed as arena rewards.
As of health globes, I'm not sure how I feel about them. If they are on a fixed location and on a timer, that's not as bad. But, the respawn time has to be very thought out. It can't become the main focus of arena.
As of healing , I would much rather see the damage against players reduced for matches to take longer then having to rely on chasing and camping health globes.
Again, I like to fall back on the "what provides more interesting gameplay"-argument. Imagine snaring and pwning someone just before they touch a Health Globe, or getting beaten to a sliver of life, catching a globe, and turning the match. It's a nice twist and I definitely welcome that kind of excitement. And if it's working against me, that would make it an even more satisfying win

That's a really good point. It will definetely bring a twist and a certain level o excitement. Im beggining to like the health globe idea, as long as blizzard does a good job of defining locations and spawn timers
I guess we'll just have to wait for beta to see how the globes will actually turn out to work. I just hope that if they become a bad thing, blizzard removes or changes them fast and accurately to the best of our entertainment!
i'll play sometimes to see if my champ is good and if my builds are viable in PVP.
And i hate health globes in PvP it's lame...same shyt as full regen potions in D2...they were forbidden in D2 why should they become legit in diablo III?
Health globes have to be there otherwise matches would last only for a few seconds minute max.
I'll dedicate my play time to pvp when I'm ready with pve/items&/trading.
I am with Popo_Joe abouth health globes. It just sucks if you ask me, because filling up health is out of place in a serious arena match.
ScyberDragon you are wrong, duels will last long enough when players are experienced or simply skilled enough. Without health globes.

Mentally keeping track of respawn timers, stacking your counters at the right moment, and being able to multi-task damage/movement/defense while mobilizing to grab a resource that could win you the game requires skill. When is skill not part of a serious arena match? Maybe it feels unfair because it can be a game-breaker, but it's not like you're being handed a free 1up - this is something everyone is going to have to fight for. And even so, just because you got healed doesn't put you out of the possibility for an upset. If you can't stay focused on keeping yourself alive with skills, then that health globe you just got won't be worth squat.
I'm interested in the arenas. I'll probably play them quite a lot.
The current Arena design seems rather boring, though. I hope we see LARGE maps in the future.
There's nothing particularly wrong with health globes, I believe it fixes the situation where you escape the enemy but you can't recover because there's no way to regenerate and you get one shot by some auto-aim skill. Nox featured tons of potions and random things you could pick up, so did various tournament FPS. You would also die very fast in those games, as well, so the potions only mitigated incomplete damage.
