I just recently purchased a Razer Blackwidow Ultimate(Awesome Keyboard btw). The Blackwidow has 5 programmable macro keys down the left side of the keyboard. I know that macros are not as useful in Diablo as they are in other games such as WOW, but there is defiantly some advantage and I wanted to know everyone's opinion about the use of macro keys. Do you think that using macros is unethical in multiplayer games? Do you think that using macros is considered cheating? I'm not sure if I am going to use them for Diablo 3 or not. Maybe this forum will help me decide.
In Diablo II I changed my key bindings to be able to hotkey skills to QWERASDF. It made it easier to switch between skills since I was used to WASD movement my hand naturally goes there.
I actually just bought a new microsoft keyboard. I got it because of it's great reviews for gaming and backlit keys - the macros were a bonus. I have only found a few practical uses for them for navigating windows but I can't imagine how they would be useful in D3. Thinking in D2 how could one use macros? As a sorc i guess you could macro: Frozen armor, energy shield, etc as a sorc. Or your warcries as a barb, but does that really even help that much? not really ..
^it probably won't since it never had a problem with them in wow, or it's much more powerful bigger brother, autohotkey... (ref. http://elitistjerks.com/f32/t25906-autohotkey_thread/) I know a lot of rets used ahk in t10 with no issue from blizz or warden.
depends on the skill. if they had a spam skill that req you to spam '1' then click, you can ahk to make it so that you only hold down 1 and it auto atks.
if you got good at ahk, you can even make it skill swap at a press of a button. given that you know how to prog the cursor. <- i had a friend that did something similar
or maybe you wanted to automate your skills to form a combo in one button...?
I think it's unethical, but I would like to think I'm a highly ethical and principled person (although I'm sure I fall short). If one uses shortcuts or cheats their way into something, they didn't earn it, and in my book, that's not ethical behavior. Moreover, though one looses the sense of accomplishment they would have had, if they really achieved something without cheating or short-cutting. Granted, there are always assholes, and unethical behavior is rampant, but that doesn't make it right. I would also add, if one feels the need to 'shortcut' the game for whatever reason, they must not be playing the game anymore for pure enjoyment. It seems logical to assume, they must have another motive. Something like Farming, ePeen, Etc.. Therefore, they are not enjoying the game, and perhaps it might be time to find some other game, or something else to do. Whatever it is you do, you should enjoy it without feeling the need to shortcut it.
I have a G510 with 18x3 macro keys, i just use the macros usually for commands/passwords etc.. outside games though, i used it a bit in wow to enable/disable different addons etc... but i don't really see much use for them gameplay wise.

What you should really worry about is if Warden will consider it cheating. Which it probably will.
