So another chap mentioned this particular image in reference to the way-point-esque structure on the left side of the frame. This is groovy, but what caught my eye was the wear-wolf looking guy with the three foot middle finger light-sabers.
I tried to include the image and the link, so hopefully at least one will work.
Now this guy drew my attention not only because he's got great style, but because in the image, he appears to be fighting against the minions of evil. Upon closer inspection I've decided that it's much more likely that he is facing the fallen soldiers because he's swung himself around to far in his zealous attempts to kill the lady barb, but... just imagine how much cooler he would be if he was in fact one of the multiple mercenaries available in act 2.
Just think of the interesting things something like that would mean for character builds and customization. Having perhaps 2-5 different kinds of mercenaries available for each act, and allowing them to come from outside of the human race. Perhaps lesser agents of the high heavens, or demons with their own agendas. Even if they were quest specific and only followed you around for part of an act or something, it would still be neat to have ol' mister light-saber fingers there watching your six.
Now then. Who thinks mercenaries should be so much more interesting than the old one trick, spear jabbing man, and who thinks having epic looking mercenaries would just steal to much of your thunder?
Edit: I neglected to mention that the "way-point" turned out to be a portal down into a particular dungeon, or something to that effect.
His torso is definitely pointing to the right of the screen and you can fully see his head, as it is looking towards the bottom and the horde of devilkin.
This would be a pretty crazy merc, though do see what newt_mcmac was saying about the weapon path of the monster, almost as he swung around from the top right in a counterclockwise path at the female, hence why it looks like she is sort of turning away to in attempt to avoid the hit.
The idea of many mercenaries is very exciting to me as well, with the differences in the classes, and the increase in monsters per area, it would be nice to have different options in a single act to help with certain portions.

I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.
Perhaps it's the fifth class, perhaps it's the WD, perhaps Godzilla with laser claws made a cameo on D3. Whatever the case, it certainly looks intimidating and thinking about controlling such a being makes me even more eager to want to play this game. Even more damning is the fact that multiple monsters are facing it and it appears to have drawn much more attention to it than the Barb next to it. Maybe you "rescue" things like this...who knows? Not all of the denizens of Sanctuary are evil, just perverted by Hell's corruptive power. Now that I think of it, maybe the Druid has come back to help his Barbarian cousin....GRRRRR. Too many possibilities running through my head! Nerd rage meltdown inevitible!
Curse you, Blizzard!

I'm stark certain that he's simply holding enchanted blades. You can see the hilts and pummels (well, at least of the fore one, and the one behind him looks exactly the same). Unless it's a shape-shifted character, I'm saying for certain it is not the fifth class. Humans only. I'm getting sick of repeating that
It honestly seems more like an enemy than anything else. To me, that seems the most logical assumption. I also don't think they'd be stupid enough to put a huge picture of the fifth class on their home page when they're trying to keep everything hush-hush. That is obviously something they would save for the Blizzcon.
If you watch pretty much any of the gameplay videos from the 2009 demo you can see people killing those very monsters. They are just some kind of desert creature with blades in its hands.

I can't believe someone other than me remembers that character from Mortal Kombat 2. Nacho, you're OK in my book. And yeah, I'm down for killing "Barakas" alllll dayyyy looooong.

I don't think that those are swords he is holding. If you look closely they look to be part of his hand or claws.
The OP said it looked like it was part of the hand...

Definitely looks like a monster and not a character. He looks like a scaled up version of what ever monster that is to the lower right corner. To me it still looks like the swords are claws. I see no hilt to the weapon but I do see the base of it coming out from hie middle finger. You can also see two swords and shield no his back.

I dunno if that's a shield or if it's simply holding those two spear-like thingys. I have something similar hanging on my wall, but it's holding two short swords. Doubt very much that that's a shield.
