when one character gets overwhelmed by enemies and his or her armor begins to lose durability. The armor should have a shoulder pad fall off or other metal pieces deteriorating the armor as the durability goes down. So you can literally see your armor getting slashed off by enemies. Also so you can see battle wounds not only on your armor, but on your character as well.
Besides, Diablo III does not even have durability. You don't have to repair items at all.
lol well thats new and umm Kinda cool i can see why tho cuz your like always fighting and theres no town portals but waypoints are still there but there more far apart that kinda makes since
if durability makes it into the game, I think it could be cool if the item attributes gets reduced... for example, a shield with 30% more chances to block an attack, and a durability of 10
if the durability is reduced to 5, then the chance to block is reduced to 15%...
about the graphic element, yeah, would be great, but is kind of a cool dream though
I think durability should be in the game but limits on the repair. Every time you repair the item it lose 1 max durability. There should be no Indestructible. Ethereal items should be fine. This way items will have a shelf life. Rings and amulets and charms(if used) will also have it but it should be based on time. Quests could be added that repaired the durability of the item to the normal max or maybe even increase what the max durability is.
I know many players will not like it since what are you going to do when your best weapon or armor breaks. You bring a spare or live of the land.
It would be cool to have the effects but I am more concerned about the core of the items. The Eye Candy can be added at the last minute. That feature may be annoying if it is too much. It may also cause a lot of extra work on the D3 engine and the game servers to calculate everything smoothly
[edit]
I forgot to add that a new skill or trade can used the Blacksmith skill.

well... imo changing the items in a regular basis is a lot of fun... I don't like to stuck myself with only one gear, though I agree with D_G on the lost of durability after repair thing...
on the other side D_G what you said in your other post is true, but as we are not getting too many possibilities of going back to town (as TPs are gonne) a system like I said would enocurage the strategy you should have, as you don't want your good items to break and blah... there could be a problem in higher levels, but as you would have better items you won't need to repair them as often, so you could make it when you get back to town.... I'm just sayin'
(sorry if a use a lot the second person... it's annoying, but is easier for me that way :D)
I think the opposite would happen. You would need to constantly look for new items. I believe a good portion of the items for trade right now are likely duped and as soon as you have your end gear you just keep them and transfer to new characters. The only time it changes is when the ladder is reset. The longer the season the more items enter the market and the values drop. With items losing durability and eventually not being able to be repaired that will mean that the supply of items will never get to high. and since the item will only last for so long the price will not be very high.
I have never traded in my history of playing Diablo and likely never will. I believe in getting the stuff on my own. I have given stuff away. My time on Battlenet was only for a couple of years and I mostly played alone since I liked the challenge it offered when there was 6 or more players and taking on Diablo or Baal by myself with a non cookie cutter build or at least it was until it got boosted in 1.10.

I play many rpg games where your items loss durability or even drop when you die. This encourage the player to play better, try to keep himself alive, search for new strategys, etc.
But people DO bring better equipment to the battle...
The Bind on Equip is a method I do not like. I think items should break if used. To me it offers more options such as skills to repair items on the field, or maybe create short term items for a few battles. Some of the things I am seeing in D3 seems to be making the game too easy just like D2 was a lot easier than D1. I am still holding of of making my last judgment on it.
I did not like the easiness of D2 that is why I went to the mods that for the most part made it more difficult.
And besides I feel they should get rid of the Unique items and Sets. The only truly unique items were rares/crafts. Maybe a few unique items as part of quests.
I do not think that my method would remove the point for getting the best gear. That can be controlled on the drop rate the team decides on. There can be many means to get the gear needed to survive. In my playing time online I never had any elite gear and I managed to beat Hell with all characters. A few characters managed to do it with junk items.
I will say that you have your opinion and I have mine. Hopefully they will come up with something that the both of us will like.

I do hope they remove the Bind on Equip or at least limit it to the legendary items. To me it seems that Diablo is taking too many things from WoW. I never played it and never will. Friends tried to get me to play but seeing it in action no way.
If I have to live with Binding on Equip. If only the Legendary items had that feature it is fine but to me the Bind on Equip does not feel Diablo to me. I never really cared for the uniques anyway. I have always been a fan of the rare/crafts.

Get rid of the uniques/set items? Are you crazy? That would be such a MAJOR drawback to the game if they took out those items.
I liked the durability system in Diablo 2, it was another thing that made your gold worth something (I mean obviously it wasn't worth anything) but IF it was implemented in 3 it could be another thing to make the currency more worth wile. It's something I won't miss though.
Wait did they say they are having the gold be the currency or basically trading items?

If any members here know me from the Phrozen Keep and in Particular the Zy-El forum will back you up on that . I would have used the crazy smilie but did not find one. Someone even created a term for me Mentaldom
In Diablo 1 I used a lot of magic items as the end gear and only a few uniques and most of those were the quest ones.
In regular version of D2 (classic and Lod) The only uniques I have found were normal and a few of the exceptional ones and never had the top of the line uniques and had no real issues on defeating Hell unless I was playing on of my crazy builds. I never devoted myself to farming runs. If I did a run it would be a complete clear and not just a rush to the boss and kill and decide if to keep any of the items.
In mods it is a different story and it would be based on the mod in particular. But most mods it is easier to get uniques/sets but the mod is usually more difficult as well. Most mods will also have features to enhance the items. D2 had planned to use some of these features but decided not to. Some of the information on this is still in the files.
I am saying is that the development team do have other options to make items good. I will take an example of a mod I play is Eastern Sun. I chose that mod since some people here play it.
You have recipes that adds a mod or improves a mod on an item. In return the required level to use is increased. In ES (Eastern Sun) it will be 2 levels for weapon 3 for torso, shield, helm and 4 for everything else. There is a secret recipe that will reduce the requirement of the item but the recipe is expensive.

?????? loll, I don't know what is fun to always be forced to go in town to press a */%& button and heard a sound of hammer !!
It's only annoying !!
Every time you repair the item it lose 1 max durability
Damn it, you don't know how I dislike that !! Items prices and trading system will be hard to set and balance !!!!
I play many rpg games where your items loss durability or even drop when you die. This encourage the player to play better, try to keep himself alive, search for new strategys, etc.
I don't see how it's encourage the player ? If you die because it's hard I don't see how you could be better with less items ?
Anyway you will try to keep yourself alive because you won't lose money !
Wait did they say they are having the gold be the currency or basically trading items?
Yes it's why you want spare it instead of waste it for repairing !! lol
The Durability of items is essential because it allows the player to have to use back up weapons or other items that you might have to have in case your items do break. the idea of the items loosing durability ever time you repair the is a bad one because it eventually will cause you to loose an items that you worked so hard for.

LOL, you bring a soluce to a problem with your "backup weapon" But It's much better to fix the problem instead of find a way to avoid it.
D3 don't have 2 slot for weapon, so Blizzard won't you to switch weapon manually in your inventory ? it's just stupid !
So I said, durability of items is NOT essential because we don't want our weapon break... (return town, repair, changing weapon manually in inventory) all bad way to avoid the problem of DURABILITY !!

your English is so bad i don't know what you are arguing about. item durability will allow you to have to constantly use different items in case your item breaks. Also all the items should not be invincible because nothing last for ever. especially armor and swords that are taking a beating.
