probably been brought up before but wouldn't it be awesome if stats were more universal. In wow you have gear that switches from 1 main stat to another based on your spec.
In d3, i find it kinda annoying that if i main a WD for example its good synergy with my wizard, and the int follower, but that same gear is kinda useless for any str or dex wearers.
Yes i know the game is based on finding gear on the toon you are playing, and yes i am aware you can enchant 1 stat for another, and can even just log on a str toon and re-roll it to str. But this seems a workaround, when all they would have to do is do like wow has it, and when you put on that shield on your templar it turns int into str, and vice versa.
wow and d3 have so many features these days that are borrowed from each other, many argue that it is to much as is, but i think this minor annoyance if fixed would make quality of life for gear that much better.
And yeah again i can go farm another shield if i want str on my crusader, but there are some pretty rare items, so if i happen to get something on my wd, that my crusader needs, and now its int. This is how the game works, and is intended, and it would make the gear grind less, which this game is all about the gear grind.
so some will argue that it shortens farming time which shortens lifespan of game, but the pros is that you dont have to sacrifice mainstat for enchanting it, and not have to farm multiples of the same items
For example, templar needs freeze of deflection, i have 2 of them on my wd, both int, i'd like to use it on my templar, but unless i enchant or re-roll it, which is what currently i have to do. Then i go to my wizard and she uses Templar, so I'd have to do it again...and again.
If the shield simply switched from int to str when i plop it on my templar, problem solved, done. Gear swapping, holding onto multiple copies of items, with different mainstats, taking up precious space will be done.
Even if they just added a simple way to push a button or added a new recipe for cube to 'switch mainstat to mainstat" (int to str) i'd be ok with that, if they feel its trivial to just auto switch it, they could make a way to do it, outside of enchanting/re-rolling the item on another toon.
again its a minor annoyance, but one that i feel strongly about and hope someday they will address it, or come up withing something better.
I'm not completely against your suggestion, but I don't see it as being all that important either. Here are the 2 main points to consider:
1. For the most part, items are locked to specific classes, whether due to class sets, item type (cloak/mojo/wizard hat/etc.), or affix effect (+% skill dmg). This means that for most gears, there will only be 1 relevant main-stat roll, i.e. you would never have a need for int on Raekor.
2. When considering builds for absolute end-game (perfect gears, high paragon and high augments), main-stat becomes (practically) the least desirable stat to roll (aside from socket on a weapon) because main-stat can be infinitely accumulated, while (almost) every other stat is hard-capped. Consider gloves as an example; a 1000 main stat + 10% CHC + 50% CHD + 20% AD roll would be less valuable than the same glove with main stat rolled to CDR or AS. Obviously it takes time to reach this point, but once you're there, you never look back.
So in short, changing main stat to become universal would not have a significant enough impact on gameplay to warrant its implementation.
I only skimmed through first post but seems to me this is pointless.I could care less what the main stat of the items I give to my follower are as long as it has the stat I do want on them.AKA attack speed and some CDR so the items I do give them are put to use more.Example besides your shield is the ammy that pulls mobs in towards follower.Same with Thunderfurry.I could careless what the main stat of it is I want the power bonus of it.
Now if our own characters benefited from the stats of the items we give the followers that would be a whole different topic.
all valid points, and yeah it is kinda pointless, but to me idk i just have a strong feeling of having proper stats or feel that its at least correct, even how trivial it really is.
and yeah you are right, mainstat doesnt even matter after a certain point, it really doesnt even add that much to your dps, point per point, only when you have significant amount in paragon that it can be shown that 3k or 4k more int sure does give a nice boost, but a few 100? barely a few k more dps, if that
so yeah its something to consider and i guess i just wont worry about it, but its the rpg/game oriented mind in me that sees small little things, when trying to maximize or min/max or even micro-manage stuff in games, that has always been an itch for me.
And yeah if we got something of worth from the stats from our followers, it would change a lot, but followers are mostly just buff/debuff tools
This problem stems from a much, much deeper issue embedded within the base of the game (mainstats should not exist), but that discussion is for another day...
