Heres the facts, Blizzard has made an incredible ammount of money from WoW yet as one person said about BC has totally corresponded with my theory. WoW is dieing, and quickly. BC is blizzards way of beating a dead horse and still getting the blind kids to pay for rides around the bail of hay. Therefore WoW will not completely die (as diablo 2, starcraft 2, ECT { People think being oldschool makes them badass at school or whatever [sometimes it does]})
But what will blizzard ever do with their many, many servers?!? I am sure they will leave some for WoW but when the cost of the servers per month rises more than the income per month from WoW something will (not surprisingly) appear. We all know Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 WILL be coming out. Its not a myth and people who think otherwise (such as negating proof "THAT DOESNT MEAN ANYTHING RAWR") will just look over their shoulder and hope no one was listening. The rumors or leaks of Diablo 3, such as Heaven vs Hell with guild housing ect lead me to believe that there is no way this can be a 8 player click 2 button-fest. It will be strategic PVP most likley because...
The current projects Blizzard is trying to accomplish is World PVP ( Heaven VS Hell ??????)
Why wouldn't Blizzard let us know! Because anything that takes away from WoW is a sin at this point in the game. They still want money to make their future products completely take the market.
Is this any proof that Diablo 3 will be a pay per month mmorpg? In my eyes, no doubt. They have done it once with a rts... why not do it with an actual rpg? The success of WoW is only miniscule to what Diablo 3 could be and Blizzard knows it. Diablo 2 sold more copies than Paris Hiltons sex tape. Thats alot of Diablo 2s!
Now the problem... Will this be a 'Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me'? I hope not, but the way Warcraft lore was completely destroyed and the repetitivness of right clicking and using the same spells (like diablo 2) the same thing could happen to Diablo 3.
How do we fix this... You keep posting on this site ideas and what you want because i can promise you they read sites like this to see what fans think because they want to please you... not themselves... Blizzard loves you... so even if Diablo 3 turns into another WoW... it wont make Starcraft 2 any less special... And if it does... Blizzard will turn into some kind of EA games (who has game diarrhea constantly spewing crap in the form of games) and I do not want that because I have been playing Blizzard games since Warcraft 1... I sucked because I was like 10 but I loved the game. Do we not want our 10 year olds to love Blizzard too? That is why we must keep writing and keep posting ideas good and bad... Radiohead kicks ass...

If you (really) played WoW u'd know its far from dead. Most servers are full of guilds. They vary from social guilds to hardcore guilds. Everyone's happy/almost happy. Blizzard pretty much listens to the community, adds great stuff with the patches, the Expansion (BC) looks fantastic (at least in matter new content - instances/new professions/new places to explore/spells etc) and everyone cant wait till its out. Blizzard said they'd support WoW for at least 5 years and after that only if they see alot players still playing it.
About the many servers they bought i think some got already used for the cross-realm pvp and most of the rest will be required for the Expansion. Imagine at least 1 server added to each realm for the new continent plus 1 more instance server. Thats alot ^^
Now about Diablo.
Its a fact that a possible MMORPG in the world of Diablo would rock. Many possibilities etc. But for the time being it wouldnt be best for the company to have 2 heavy MMORPGs. Its more likely they make and releast a single-player with multiplayer options now and in about 4-5 years (as we know Blizz policy) we could see a MMO in that world when WoW will be old and will loose people anyway. In the end its all about marketing and how to make most money of each situation.
The warcraft lore is kept pretty much intact in WoW, btw (except that Draenei part). You get to read/watch many stories and get that flair too, especially in the highlvl quests and dungeons. And there is still a possibility of a Warcraft 4 (Metzen said it, i dont make that up).
I wouldn't like the idea of it being a MMO, for a few reasons, one being that in the main, MMORPG's have no continuing story, which is one of the ways i personally rate a game because most of the best games are story driven. They have it free roam, which is cool in a way, but most games are too based around free roaming which makes it boring when your running about looking for something to do. not only that, but when I first saw WoW I thoght it would be packed full of amazing cut scenes but there's only one cut scene in the whole game, I was fooled, I love Blizzards cut scenes and world of warcraft only had one :'(
Also for a last reason, I think it's pointless having so many people in a server, I would rather have NPCs. At least the NPCs would have some character.

As long as Diablo would remain fun I wouldn't ming paying to play because this would allow us more say. There would be more people taking care of the servers and ensuring the lag is down to a minimum. This would also get rid of all the little kids who get annoying and spam on diablo. As for an MMORPG, I wouldnt mind this as long as it kept everything intact and it wasn't like playing a totally different game.
If you (really) played WoW u'd know its far from dead. Most servers are full of guilds. ... Thats alot ^^

I have played WoW sine it's release and have the BC alpha test so I know that it is not what it use to be. WoW is massive and any fluctuation in numbers shows greatly. Most servers are filled with drama, something a game should not have. I have seen it turn alot of people off and sell their accounts. So anyway... Did you know that one of the bosses in the outland is Kael? So... the blood elves will be killing Kael (their savior) on a weekly basis... Ok lets let that slide for a second. As a WoW player you know that eventually Northrend will open and Arthas will be a boss... You also know that Arthas is now invincible... Now I have no problem with blizzard changing the story aslong as they have a story to tell us why. I do not think they will though. (Draenei shamans (shamans = "spiritual healers of the horde"- WoW instruction booklet) Their reasoning? Because they are Holy demons that are intouch with their elemental side... Alliance hate demons IE The warlock trainer in a basement hidden. Draenei are demons... Ummmmm...
I was just exaggerating some parts I hate in WoW that blizzard might do to Diablo 3. They over balance to the point of excessive boredom. As a WoW player you know how spending weeks to get Exalted at AB is a pain in the ass just to get something everyone else has.
So what I think Diablo 3 needs most is diversity. Have the assasain excelent agaisnt the sorc and terrible agaisnt the barb... It welcomes team work and strategy. Also Tatsumaru has a good point... As much as WoW does have story it really isn't enough of an RPG to lack a strong one. The Diablo world seems more of MMORPG game that can actually become a game like Oblivion (which is like a single player UO)
About the dieing part... my dear FingolfinGR... Eventually every game dies... People can still play a dead game... but it will have been replaced... nothing will replace WoW till maybe Diablo 3 if its mmog... EA's battlefield games replace each other, why couldn't Blizzards do the same? Also after Illidan dies, after Arthas dies, and maybe even Kil'jaeden, whats left? You can not possibly think WoW will be alive forever...
i never said it would go on forever. I think i mentioned it would be supported for about 5 years with yearly expansions (what Blizzard said). I also said it is most likely to have a Diablo MMO, just not that soon. More in like 4-5 years. Till then we'll see a Diablo 3 that wont be a MMO. As i said as long as they can make alot money out of WoW, they will keep doing it. And with a good Diablo 3 they'll grow even more the fanbase of that franchise for a MMO in the future (exactly as they did with Warcraft 3 and WoW).
I would rather have small servers like in D1 + D2, 8 - 16 players would be great, and I would pay for it, but I'm scared that if it becomes a MMORPG that it will be just like every other MMORPG, bland and repetitive. I don't want to walk into a field in D3 and see the same tree I saw 5 seconds ago! I want to see different shaped trees, I want to see more detail in games, not just a rushed job of copy and paste.
To be honest, the gaming world is getting much worse than it is getting better, games are changing to be more simple and easy, they lack a story and excel in graphics and many of the features are just cloned from other games, they try to make games for all audiences to make money, but they're ruining games in my opinion.
I will sit down and play some of the old games just for their features, music, gameplay and story, but I wont even touch some of the games they make today, because 90% of those games are just not worth wasting my short life on to play.

Diablo and Diablo 2 was repetitive as well, tho. Use the same spells over and over to kill the same monsters over and over... Only in MMORPGs quests are bit more important (among other things). I wouldnt want D3 as a MMO, though. Better to finish the trilogy and then make such a game.

Yes, of course it is, but you could say that any game is repetitive with combat (I'm pretty sure it would also be repetitive in real combat), I was talking more about the quests and the whole getting to lvl 60.
Diablo gives each quest a unique objective, but in WoW it mainly involves: Collect 10...... Kill 25....... Speak to Thorin...... they are basically the only variations in quests. It's too much filler, just like many music albums today, they have one chart topping song, and the rest is all filler.
Also with rare item drops, the rarest items will never really drop unless you fight bosses, which involves getting a good group together and playing for 2 hours trying to get to a dungeon boss, I don't like this focus on teamplay, not everyone is a team orientated person.
Lastly the lvling up thing takes too long, I played WoW for about a month and got to lvl 60, but I was playing about 12 - 16 hours a day, what about people who play for say a couple of hours a day? they hardly get any enjoyment because they will only ever get to lvl 60 after about 8 months, when I play a Final Fantasy game, I can get to the top lvl in a few days, and during that I've played a game which I've enjoyed 90% of the time, but with WoW I've only enjoyed it 50 or 60% of the time, because it's too repetitive and becuase there's not much to look forward to other than getting to lvl 60.
I might be being too critical, but that's how I feel and that's why I wouldn't want it to be an MMORPG unless they can veer away from these problems.

Diablo- The first game i ever played for the PC in 1997. Diablo 2- The first online game i ever played in 2001.
first off, lvling doesnt take too long. It took me 120 hours (counted by the game) to get to lvl 60 with my first character without any helps (which means i grinded monsters at the time i could do quests and get more xp). About the really great items: Ofc they need a good group! Its a MMO! We need a good team to get to the biggest/hardest instances around and ofc to get the phat lewts we all want. Its not a single player game where u can solo about everything and get the items you need.
In general WoW is as a typical MMO a grind game in many ways (i'm being arsed to grind rep with a certain faction for a certain reward atm). Sometimes it makes you tired, no doubt, but its part of the whole system. But getting a group and being in an instance for 2,3,4,5 hours doesnt make me tired. On the other hand, the fights are great and challenging. And playing "with" someone is the meaning of playing online, isnt it? And instances arent just for lvl 60s. As a horde u can go there at lvl 13-15. Alliance about 18-20 (the lowest). There's not much more to add for the so called "casual gamer" (but even they can get to lvl 60 without any problems in a few weeks if they quest alot - but everyone is free to explore and just kill mobs too if they want - none is forced to follow the same way). Its a MMO, its supposed to be for the hardcore ones (same for the new additions with the expansions etc).
Levelling does take long in my opinion, because even 120 hours is a long time at any standard, not only do you have your base lvl, but you also have your job lvl's which are equally important if you want to make some easy cash. when I'm playing a game I don't want to do the same thing for 120 hours, I want to do a verity of things so that when I've been playing for the whole day I can say to someone I done many things instead of saying "I increased by two levels today, and that's it.
The first time I played WoW I used to come online at the same time as another person, and we would go questing and lvling up for 12 hours, and thats the difference for me, I met loads of people on Diablo 2 (about 6 years ago) and I hardly ever gamed with them, we would just chat, and I'm still friends with them to this day, but I met hundreds of people on WoW, and I don't speak with a single one of them.
I don't really think blizzard would aim WoW at hardcore gamers directly, they want money, and the majority of gamers ain't hardcore. They aimed the game at anyone, and they're hoping for the casual gamers to play, because it takes them a lot longer to get to lvl 60, which means more money for blizz.
If I had the money I would start my account up again, but I wouldn't play it to Grind, I'd play it to have fun, because that's what games should be about.

Diablo- The first game i ever played for the PC in 1997. Diablo 2- The first online game i ever played in 2001.
As i stated in my original post I think Diablo 3 is better suited to be a mmorpg if they focus on gameplay and story and decent PVP. Not balance and ease of use like they have on WoW.
i'm not sure u even fully read my post. I said that lvling is really easy if you do quests and instances. Every (or almost every) instance offers different challenges and different sorts of things. Ok, the quests can only run under a schema A or a schema B. The only thing they can do (and they do it) is to tell different stories that if u bother reading u might find interesting parts of the lore as well. If you dont want to spend hours on your toon you shouldnt try playing a MMORPG imo. If you want the best rewards u got to sweat, thats everywhere the same. I played Diablo 2 from day 1 and never got a character to lvl 99. I was too bored. But i loved the game and i still do (i even play part time for some WoW breaks).
About the friends u didnt make with the people in WoW its not the games problem. I got many friends from my server, some i met in person, most i even added on my MSN, we talk during playing via Skype etc. Ofc i did the same thing with Diablo, it didnt change. Friends lists exist in WoW too, you know. Its about you and the others to become friends, not the job of the game.
On the last part ur partially right. Blizzard wants to make money. Thats why they added the armor upgrade quests, the mostly soloable quest chain that only requires few hours gaming/day to complete. But check the really big patches in the past. Molten Core, Blackwing Lair, Ahn Qiraj and Naxxramas. To do these instances u needed to be in the top guilds of ur server at that time. And these guilds take only the most hardcore players around.
(atm i'm working - really working - on some reputation i need for a certain reward. it made me really tired but i'm almost there. It feels the same way like when i was working on my Diablo lvling - made me tired to do but when it was complete it felt quite rewarding. Anyways, the most interesting part of the game are the instances. If you do the hardest u'll get my point)
