I hope "H" is a hotkey to drink health potions and "M" is a hotkey to drink mana potions. I hate having to stock my god durn belt with more potions.
The belt will be no longer used to keep potions.
...
You'r right anyway. People should be able to bind potions with hotkeys and use it from the bag, though "H" and "M" are terrible choices lol
I know the belt-bar won't be in D3, and I got those ideas from Dungeon Siege lol. What else could those be assigned to? I honestly can't come up with another idea as good as "H" and "M."
No belts in D3. You probably will be able to bind them wherever you wish as well.
As far as we know, you won't able to use a thousands of potions in a row either. This seems to be taking the WoW route, where potions are only really good in emergency situations, heck many expect them to have a cooldown.
All that with good reasons, the way potions work in Diablo 2 is not exactly good..
I guess the one thing this thread should have proven by now (for anyone that's even remotely been paying attention) is that we need customizable hotkeys.
It will surely have. I never saw any official announcement about it but customise your control is something basic.
Personally i will just use "R" for health and "T" for mana.
You gave me an idea, though it may not be that good: If you press the space bar... your pereson drinks whatever potion he needs to, depending on what is the lowest! THAT'S simple.
The only problem with that is... what if you run out of beneficial potions? Then you're sitting there, frantically hitting space, not seeing your health bar go up... getting pissed off...
Lol. It could play a noise, like, "Wah, wah, waahhhh" notifying your being-out-of-potions. Or more Blizzard-like, "Wonk."
But I get your point. However, that happens with all other hotkeys as well.
That raises the question of what you'd be using Q, W and E for?
I don't know. Maybe nothing.
Put your finger in the "1", "2", "3" and "4" keys. It's much more easy to reach "R" and "T" then any other key in the keybord : )
Though "E" is also a good option.
Well, the spacebar hotkey isn't a bad idea. If your health is lower than your mana when you tap it, he'll drink a health potion. If both are below 50% he'll drink both...?
W/e. That ain't going to happen lol.

"H" is still very easy to press if you're resting your fingers on 1 - 4. I could even use my thumb to hit it without knowing where it is.
I'm sorry, I just went "what the hell" when I read that. R, T and E are all close, you don't need your thumb, in fact I laugh at anyone regularly hitting these letters with their thumbs. I don't know if you just forgot what you quoted.
Also, hitting F or H with your thumb? Wut? I thought I had weird hands, but you guys got weird thumbs.
The two consumable types are bound to 5 and 6 in Diablo 3 (you have two slots where you can put potions and scrolls). You will probably be able to change those, but I'd rather keep them on 5 and 6 because I'm used to using numbers 1-6 in WoW in addition to ~, Q, E and F (keys around WASD).
What, with your thumb? Thumb is the slowest finger in my experience. I'd rather keep it on the space bar. I'd have my other four fingers each have an extra key assigned to them, so I'd use Q, W, E and R as hotkeys. They're right below 1, 2, 3 and 4.
The way I play in Diablo 2 is that I have these hotkeys for skills:
Q W E R
A S D F
Z X C V
Just put your fingers on 1, 2, 3, 4. Then move down one bar. Move down another one. And another one. You can press them all really quick. With my thumb it would take me longer.
Btw if I have my four fingers on the 1, 2, 3 and 4 and I move my thumb to the R or T, that's a very weird position for my hand to be in. Looks like it could cause some serious RSI since your wrist is not in a relaxed position at all.
I have to take my pinky off the "1" key to be able to reach the H with my thumb, and it's a very weird way to bend my wrist. The "F" key on the other hand is almost just as natural a place for my thumb as the space bar. Guess our anatomy is different.
Another thing I just realised is, I don't look at my keyboard while I'm playing. Maybe you guys do and that's the difference.
LOL who said thumb ? Since english is my third language i'm not very familar with some terms, like the name of every finger, so it's really hard to explain >_< But I will try:
Put your 4 thingers in the "2", "3", "4" and "5" keys and the thumb in the space bar.
The finger in the "2" key will also be used to press "1".
The fingers in the "3" and "4" will only take care of one key.
My finger in the "5" key will be used to press "5", "6", "R" and "T".
My thumb will press the space to show item names in the ground. If i can't change that hotkey, i will just use alt.
This way i've 8 keys without have to move my hand (i don't like to move my hand).
And lol i don't look to my keybord while playing or writing since SC XD

I agree, using H feels very awkward to me, space bar is much better imo.
If we can set our own hotkeys for pots, ill use the space bar and and tab key.
I would say the tilde but im gonna be keeping only 3 fingers on 1,2, and 3, and use my pointer finger to get to 4, and just rest my pinky on the tab key the entire time, because moving my pinky around just confuses the rest of my hand.
We aren't going to need our fingers on the hotkeys at every second, I would feel comfortable with quickly moving my hand to spot I know where the letter is... like "H." Lol.

Those would be good, but I may set tab to a big version of the minimap, if the map is a hold-to-see kind, instead of WoW where you need it open longer. The game will probably have a hold-to-see map, since it's actiony.

Bad idea if you have 1 mana and 2 hp which one would you drink?D
Well anyways fullu customizable hotkeys should solve all the issues found in this thread.

Pretty much. There is no reason to believe that the majority of "Buttons" won't be customizeable. The only ones I can see them being a stickler over are 1-4 being mandatory for action skills, but I doubt that.
When I was playing wow, I had about 37 or 38 keybinds all for my left hand, using ctrl & shift modifiers. Could easily have gone up to 45 i think without too much trouble, or learning how to use Alt. There is no way d2 will need nearly this many active controls, so I'm pretty sure I'm in the clear so long as they leave me with my customizations

I'm not sure Mana potions were confirmed, but health potions are definitively in.
Nice lie in a first post.
