A Resistance outpost where people can POST items for trade sortof like an auction.
Also a gathering place for people to sign up for quests together at a specific time.
Honestly. I think this is a GREAT idea. You could decide how long of a time an item goes up for auction and set the minimum bidding price. Items that do not sell could be placed aside for the origional owner to pick up or repost for sale again.
There could be a wall similar to that of Final Fantasy 12 where you can accept posted missions by anybody who wants to play the game, but at a specific time and also want a full party ready.
SEROIUSLY.
Instead of having the game joining area outside the diablo realm, we could have a miniature MMORPG waiting area/lobby just for the sake of selling items and joining games. If you don't like my idea, your wellcome toedit my ideas in your post.
How else could you effectively create an exciting environment to post things for trade?
Imagine that they would make trade channels where whoever is currently in the channel is standing around a small campfire... When you want to offer an item for trade you drag it from your inventory or something and your char puts it infront of him... know what i mean? and then others can make an offer on it... like a nice trading channel with your inventory on the side...

Thats an interesting idea. And then one day Deckard Cain randomly bursts in to a flaming image lecturing you to go save the world...either that or he'd be like "Stay a while and listen"
ahhh...wow, i kinda got off topic there sorry haha
It would be nice to have a good trading system.
Anybody else have any alternate ideas???
Well, first I'm wondering what "clan hall building" has to do with this. At first I thought this was going to be about building a clan building (which I think would be awesome, but this isn't a world-persistent game, so I think it would be unfeasible).
Anyway, since I'm pretty sure they said that joining and creating games would be like in Diablo I and II, I don't think this would work. We're probably only going to have a max of 4+ players, so I don't think it would be enough to merit this in every game. Maybe a large, permanently hosted game like this with a town specifically structured for trading?
Then if its not feasible to create a world-persistent game, then I personally like the idea of magistrates idea of a permanently hosted game speciallized for trading. I am aware that these ideas are still in their infancy so Im curious to hear everyones suggestions.
The question I then have is, how well would a permanently hosted game by Blizzzards battle.net actually work and is there a way to structure it in a way that would actually be able cater to an enormous gaming community as big as Diablo 3's?
Could there be a trading system like I initially suggested where you could (POST) your item for auction in one of several differnt rooms? I would imagine we would have to cater to a wide range of leveled character and perhaps keep them seperate.
(Im trying as hard as i can to keep this topic relevent)
That idea Magistrate had is pretty good, a permanent outpost would work pretty well.
Could gather, walk around, show off armor 'n' shit, set up large questing parties...
Instead of the channels, we could have these types of things, where you can actually walk around instead of just having a row of characters and names.

You have to remember that Diablo III isn't an MMO. It's going to have a very similar create/join game system like Diablo II/I. We won't be getting large questing parties since they're leaning towards a smaller player count per room than that of Diablo II.
But, to bounce off Zhar's last idea- I like something like that. Right now we have multiple "channels", both Battle.net-automated and user-created. Perhaps we could have multiple rooms for when you're not in a real room for the game, like a big city, that hosts like 40 or so like Diablo II channels. There wouldn't be any actual questing to be done in it or dungeons, just a city, but it would eliminate the need for creating a bunch of trading games and make the out-of-game more in-game.

By that I meant that you could get together with people in the channel or room or whatever they will use, and find out who needs to do what, then create a game to get the quests done that you need.
Basically the same as the D2 system of channels, except it would be somewhat easier and more fun with the addition of the cities that you talked about.
Guild wars did something like this, outside of the combat areas everyone was in a large city, each city channel could host about 40 or so people. While it did function somewhat similar to the D2 system, it was more fun and interactive.

I have been looking around and haven't seen anyone mention this idea for how the cities should work. I doubt Blizzard would do this, but I think it would be nice. The cities/towns in Diablo 3 should be similar to how the cities work in Guild Wars. They should have all of the players currently playing in them and when you go out into the world it is just like Diablo 2. Basically, the cities are used for trade, finding groups etc. This way the cities would feel like ?cities? and players would be able to trade with a large number of players and create parties for questing/xp easily.
I posted an extemely similar idea in this thread. http://www.diablofans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19202
I agree with your ideas on this. In that thread I made, I was trying to explore the ideas of a
trading outpost in town where people could auction off their items. But we need to come up with
some ideas about how to implement such a system where we are talking about a game
that traditionally is only found in small games rather than an MMO.
Magistrate came up with an interesting idea about how to get around this in my thread.
I think that this would add a lot of depth and quality to the game play and would make people more excited to play diablo 3 when they have a better place to party up and trade their items..
Feel free to post your ideas in my thread too.
sounds good, lets do that.
its ok because we are exploring/discussing just how to implement a system in general that
would allow us to trade weapons, party up to join quests, and to maybe join clans in clan halls ect
his ideas complement my thread by offering new ideas.
Hey, my thread got merged to this one. I like the idea about possibly having a room hosted by battle.net that is always open that acts like a trading post or something like that. Also, just having an auction house that you could access in battle.net while your searching for rooms etc would be great.

Maybe? I'm not sure how Guild Wars towns work exactly to know if its the same sort of thing as temp's thread.
