In D2 bossruns were both for loot and experience. Unfortunatly in endgame the only thing players did was Baalruns.
Since there was the most XP and best loot in the game.
Now, it can't be good that endgame is focused on less then 1% of the game. Forcing every player in such a tiny area to progress.
How should this be changed to get more variety in the game? Instead of rushing to Baal all day long. Don't get me wrong,
i really loved doing bussruns, solo and grouped. But after a while it could get really boring. And there was simply no real other answer for leveling.
So what do we want to see in D3? Since its not an open world like WoW is.
Options will be a bit more limited.
More randomness? Like scripted random events. Something like, kill this important dude and you will have a chance revoking the demons in that area.
Resulting in a massive beserking force of demons rushing into town and slaughtering anyone to take revenge.

Boss runs do get boring after a while, and I think that Blizzard have said that they are going to try and get rid of the need to do them as much, or at all. I like the idea of having demons attack a town, however this is a game where the only time you can fail is when you yourself die. You can't have NPCs dying on you becuase the game would be very difficult to play that way. I would like to see our involvement in proper battles and/or wars between good and evil. Things that are on a massive scale and no important NPCs are at risk. This way I think a lot of experience and loot can be generated. This would not necessarily be the best of loot, because you would be fighting lots of basic soldiers, but generals and leaders could drop some good stuff, and would be the equivalent of a good boss.
Yeah excactly like that.
Except, important NPC's should be strong by themselves. Or have alot of guards. The event could also be on stand-by until a player interacts with it.
In the line of;
Small continues attacks which the townguards can defend for themselves. And when a player comes into town demons will notice it. The town actually accomodates one of the heroes that killed their important leader. Resulting in an all-out attack on that town. Without the player the town would be helpless. Even if all NPC's get wiped out. It doesn't matter. You can recreate the game at any time.
This would be cool. Though, there should still be alot more variety.

I think this has already been fixed. Didn't they say that there are no more waypoints, just checkpoints? That would make it harder for people to do runs. Plus, with the nerfing of teleport I don't think you will see telebaals anymore.
disappointing.
like waypoints and teleporting.. loathe slow travel.
love boss runs and mfing the same things over and over. (the lottery machine analogy and love the predictability)
more and more i think d3 isn't going to be something i enjoy.
hope you guys like it at least.

I don't think there is a way to end boss runs. Boss drops are the best because they are the hardest to kill. If people want to limit themselves to only fighting the end boss for loot that is there option. For people like me who don't, I would be really upset if the hardest mobs in the game didn't give me my best loot. My only suggestion to "solve" this is to not let people kill bosses more then once, or if you're playing online with somebody else then the boss just won't drop any loot for you.

It shouldn't be changed...I don't think anything was wrong with D2 in fact the only thing I wish they'd changed was maybe adding an additional act and obviously improved graphics now that it's 10 years later. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Also, no other answer for leveling? Have you forgot about the cow lvl that served as the main avenue for exp for years?
I know people already complain that D3 has too much WoW influence one way or another, but I think that limiting Boss loot drops to once a day (or every few days) per specific boss might address the issue. Bosses are still valuable to run, but you can't just nail them over and over.

That would be a terrible way to fix the problem.
They have alot of option to resolve this problem. Put alots of complicated and complex side quest chains that keep us buzy until 99, creat other PvE modes like a arena and a 99 floor dungeons, creat events that involves the whole world (like ubers)... Just give as more and better options then running the last dungeon and the problem is solved.
C`mon it`s not something difficult. Most final fantasy have so hard and long side quests that i found myself almost in the level cap when finish then all.
Boss runs do get super boring after a while, I even have a sorc and tele and that gets boring too. I try and mix it up though by going to LK or the Tombs, but those tend to not drop as good.
Maybe they could randomize like mini-bosses so you could say have a random unique boss in an area or something. I mean, if they are going for full randomization; I think that would be awesome. Therefore still have bosses that drop good, but undo the monotanany of running the same boss over and over.
They'll have to have boss runs still be a focus. This is not MMO, there's not going to be a constant stream of new conent coming out. You're going to HAVE to play certain parts of the game over again for EXP to get to really high levels, and using anything but bosses to get there wouldn't make any sense.
I agree, that doesn't sound very fun if they only drop gold. What I'm saying is level the playing field a bit more; ie so there is more than one boss everyone goes to. Make multiple "valuable" bosses that have unique drops or hell even only certain bosses drop certain types of items (dunno if that's too much like an MMO ?).
We could have bossruns, but give bonus for people that do something else than _only_ the runs.
Maybe with the random quest system, we will have balanced use of areas in the game.
If every game offers bunch of random quests that will reward you with exp and maybe items, people probably will do those and not all those quests are at the same area I suppose.
Those random quests should offer so much exp that it would be on par to run 1 guy zillion times. Also there should be several areas in the endgame that would offer about the same amount of exp.
Bossruns (and cow/bloodyruns) came to D2 with LOD because after LOD you were able to play in 8 player parties and still gain good exp. Before LOD there just used to be games like Xp1 Xp2, Only xp, Exp 1, amapala 1 etc. People made those games and they were filled up with people that had a random goal in the game.
There were those high level players that always did a CS run, but they did it in 2-3 player party because back then, being in a party cut down your exp heavily, so doing an 8 player party to CS would be totally worthless in terms of exp. People that didn't qualify to that 2-3 player group, generally barbs and lower than 80 level characters, soloed or small grouped some other areas in the game and didn't complain about not getting in the CS party. It was how the game worked then and it was damn perfect.
Eventually if you wanted high level you had to run a lot of CS yes, but before those high levels you could do some other areas also. Nowadays it is CS run when you hit lvl 60 or something(in classic).

Fuck you, I'm a dragon.
chests and mobs should drop the items
that way you ll enjoy fighting lots and lots of enemies at once
i mean sure you can fight bosses to testr your build and for fun
but them dropping items just makes players wanna run them 800 billion times
so they can run them for gold especially if gold is actually worth something in diablo 3
but unique monsters that are not act bosses should drop items
Be my Buddy =^.^=
