It's not a day until an art thread gets posted
So here 'tis mine.
What do people know of that has been changed due to customer input, or not changed? Out of curiosity, and with links. I've read a lot about Starcraft color changes for instance.
I was lucky enough to be in the F&F WoW Alpha starting during the 3rd push. They released Humans first, then dwarves, then Undead (cap was lvl 20) Then next was the Tri-Horde push. There was a pretty big consensus that the Troll female was so fugly no one would play them. Their legs looked like a mutated turkey. A comparison of the changes in them and the female tauren can be seen here: http://www.theirisnetwork.org/wp-content/uploads/2007/05/figure8.jpg
As a trivia note, when we started getting Day - Night cycles. I think it was pretty much a consensus that everyone thought *Night* in WoW was really too light or at least, could be darker without hurting much. Many of us came from DAoC and EQ. EQ, certain races can't even see at night without aids. There were many people that called for a blacker night. We were denied, they said No. I find it interesting that Diablo is under the same discussion and I wonder how it will look should they turn on the Fog of War. That was pretty much what the darkness in D2 was.
And that is my rambly thought from seeing the PC gamer article thingy I find it amusing that many of the art posts asking for Diablo to be Darker, aka NOT WoW, are asking for something similar to what the Alpha WoW players wanted.
Well the pictures have got to be different quality. The alpha look smoother and more detailed, which shouldn't be the case at all. I think the Alpha look worse though.
That's a female troll on the right there, for the alpha ones.
Looking at trolls in game now, I'd disagree.
Blizzard seems to have taken a liking to the approach of kid cartoons. Blue is a replacement for shadows, and green is a good colour for a creepy eerie feel. Or something. In my opinion that's a horrible idea.
Blue is a good colour for cold or calming, green is good for poisonous or sickening (swamps anyone?) and shadows are black.
I don't expect Diablo 3 to look exactly like it does right now, they havent even reached beta you know. Blizzard games change quite a bit between Alpha and Final.
The petition is going to be apart of that process. Especially the item scaling, such as armor. But as for the coloring and graphics, that will be up to them, it will look different later on, you guys know this to be true.
Frankly, I hope they don't change it too much. For me, the graphics and art direction capture the sort of hypnotic, escapist mentality that I got from D2. The trailer is very pleasant to watch. And I'm only saying this because I haven't officially put in my .02 anywhere yet on the subject.
I know this may sound stupid, but I really believe Blizzard knows what we want better than we do. Customer reactions aren't always the best indicator of what to do. (Look how some movies get screwed up due to test audience reaction).

they havent changed anything so far... or so we hear... i hope they dont... initially i signed the petition but ended up, after wattching the video a few times, realizing that the colors make the contrast between light and dark and the blood shows up way better on grey then on black

There is grey in the game, though not a whole lot. It does emphasize things though. Like how the room turns grey and drains of color before the Thousand Pounder is summoned.
I do dislike the blue and green though, mostly the green. I have no clue why it's green at all.
The blue just doesn't bother me as much for some reason.

This worries me!

Well if it's something like that, I'd buy it, but they could add mold or something instead of just green lighting.
Naw man, i was joking.. Though it would be cool if they had mold instead of that green lighting.
